As I said in the game thread at first there was no doubt in my mind that it was a pick on the last play, and I did hear the QB and announcer (for what that's worth) say it too. But go back and look at it again, if anything it was a defensive penalty. He tackled the receiver before he ever set a pick.

Not a college football fan............no dog in this fight......NFL fan
But I thought NFL referees stunk

The Clemson Tigers, ran virtually the same pick play, to get 14 points.
Clemson QB admitted to it.

At what point, are games worth watching, or caring about, when officiating blatantly screws up a game?
Same play that every college and pro team runs every week and generally gets away with it. Nothing to see here.

  • As I remember........The WRs moved into the defensive players........They initiated the contact

What I'M talkin' bout. It's the refs' jobs to call it, your job to run it or not based on the flags - or lack thereof.

It's the same thing with hits on the QB: if they don't flag, we body-bag

I thought we should have just had all our CB tackle their recievers at the line and take the half the distance penalty. Clemson would have had 1 second left and would have had no choice but to kick a field goal. But they still would have won in OT.
I like it.

That negates the numerous targeting calls against Bama that weren't called. Wash your hands of it and stop trying to tarnish what was an amazing game.

It wasn't a pick. It was defensive holding. Purposeful. What don't you get about this?!? Cmon man.

How do you have defensive holding on a play that starts at the 2 yd line?

You hold the receiver before the ball is let go by the qb. It's definitional and obvious. Anything else?

I've noticed a theme here... 'NFL fans' are the ones bitching.

There is no 5 yard cushion in college football like the NFL, but contact is still allowed up to the point where the defender is standing. It's only AFTER the receiver passes the defender that contact is not allowed.

As the play starts at the 2 yard line, and the receiver never goes beyond the defender, where the fuck are you getting a holding call?

Not that it matters, it was a physical game and it's not the reason Alabama lost.
