Sunday Sep 4th 7:30 PM. Its Almost football time guys. here is a little break down of Texas.

Texas offense and whats new from last year and what we can look for:

New offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert. He coached Jimmy Garoppolo at Eastern Illinois where the Panthers led the nation in yards and points per game in 2013. In 2014, Gilbert coached Bowling Green to the MAC championship final. Gilbert plans to improve the passing game and speed up the tempo of the Texas offense.

Junior QB Tyrone Swoopes completed 2,409 yards and scored 13 touchdowns in 2014. However, platooning with Jarrod Heard in 2015, his numbers went down. Sophomore Heard is both a passing and rushing threat, throwing 1214 yards and rushing for 560 yards in 2015.

The Horns’ most exciting acquisition on offense might be Devin Duvernay, who had considered Baylor but committed to Texas. He was ranked the #4 player from Texas, #4 wide receiver overall, and #36 player overall. He can run a 4.38 40-yard dash, and, as well as catch the ball, the elusive freshman can return punts and kicks.

Add outside receivers John Burt and Collin Johnson and running backs D’Onta Foreman and Chris Warren III, and a quick, spread-out offense could be effective for Texas this year.

Texas Defense and whats new and what we can look for:

Last year, the Longhorns’ defense gave up 219 ground yards per game. But this year they’ve added 5 top prospects. Tackles Jordan Elliott, Chris Daniels and Marcel Southall are 4-star recruits, and tackles D’Andre Christmas-Giles and Gerald Wilbon are 3-star players. Strong hopes these freshmen can step right in and contribute.

From last year: LB Malik Jefferson, a freshman All-American in 2015 who had 61 tackles, 37 of them unassisted. He also posted 2-1/2 sacks. Along with Malik, sophomore ends Charles Omenihu and Breckyn Hager could contribute to the pass rush. Omenihu had 15 solo and 2 assisted tackles, and Hager had 12 and 5; and now they have a year’s experience.

The secondary has some talent, including cornerback Holton Hill, who had 49 tackles, a fumble recovery and a pick-6. Cornerback Davante Davis had 36 tackles and one interception and was also proficient at pass breakups. He’ll definitely be in the mix as well.

Last time ND played Texas:

Notre Dame’s 38-3 shellacking of Texas

Notre Dame racked up 527 yards of offense to just 163 for Texas while amassing an absurd 30 first downs and nearly 40 minutes of time of possession.

Without Folston converted wide receiver CJ Prosise nearly eclipsed 100 yards with a 98 yard performance. True freshman running back Josh Adams made an impressive debut with a 14 yard touchdown on first first collegiate rushing attempt. Adams later added a 25 yard touchdown.

Irish improved to 9-2 all-time versus the Longhorns.

I'm ready however I am a bit worried Notre Dame could slack off with 2 QB's and no real-leader yet and Texas has a new offense that will be needed to look at.

My only concern is that if one of our QBs gets into a rhythm, he could be subbed for and totally ruin any mojo our offense had going. Kelly loves to do that shit, just tinker with what's working. Stick with the hot hand short man!! ;)

I lied, that's not my only concern. Our defense is a concern of mine too.

See I think if 1 is in rhythm Kelly will stay with him. He knows better not to switch things if things are going well. I agree he likes to try and out smart the other HC but he knows QBs.

No he doesn't. When Hendrix was still here, he'd send him in just to have him run a damn QB draw that EVERYONE and their mama knew was coming. Totally ruined the flow they had going many times.

Kelly Named his starting OL and Colin McGovern won the starting RG spot. All 4 spots is what everyone thought. McGlinchey at LT, Nelson LG, Sam Mustipher at center, McGovern at RG and Bars at RT.

This Oline is really good.

I know the other 4 arrested players have to deal with Res-life. I don't see them missing the Texas game because the Res-life process takes forever as we know. Notre Dame blows Texas out again 41-17. We see the defense play very well again in the opener again to get our hopes up.

Im so excited about sunday. What sucks about opening up with a big time team is if you lose the season can some what be over before it even started. Losing the 1st game of the year and then going 11-1 should still get ND in the playoffs but it adds a lot of pressure on the team.
