    Off-season news 2024

I don't think teams get comp picks if they release players who end up signing elsewhere.

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

I think he would be a pretty smart pick at 16 because of how impactful he could be right away at a spot where there is an obvious big need. Interesting note on Fautanu: he's only 5 months younger than Penix. Trading down would be ok as well, but I would prefer it to be 6-8 spots or...

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

Kiper has them both going in the early 2nd in his latest mock. But yeah, they are both all over the map. I would bet at least 1 goes in round 1. And add Kiper to the list of pundits who think we are taking Troy Fautanu.

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

I think it's possible to hold character as a big consideration and still look at players who may have made a mistake. Everyone gets their day in court, and maybe the team wants to get a better feel for what he's all about.... whether the incident is more likely a one-off type deal or evidence...

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

One huge difference in the new order is JS hires and fires coaches. The coaching staff answers directly to him, and he stated as much early on after Pete left. The other is Schneider now having final say in all football decisions, vs Pete having it before. Those are 2 big differences that I...

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

Yeah, you could very well be right. I wonder what positions are the 'easiest' to hit on (in round 1). I know it's not QB. Maybe CB?

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

Does it worry you at all that we seem to be pretty bad at drafting DEs in early rounds? Darrell Taylor, LJ Collier, Rasheem Green, and Frank Clark are the 4 taken in the top 2 rounds in the last 10 years. The only hit is Frank Clark. Rasheem Green was a role player. Darrell Taylor is still...

    2024 Official Seahawk Draft thread

Sure looks like Troy Fautanu is the most popular player being mocked for the Hawks at 16. Hard to be upset about that, though it's certainly not the sexy/flashy choice. Unless you just whiff on the player, it's difficult to go wrong by beefing up the trenches. The other player I've seen...

    QB options for next year

I think there's a higher probability they extend Dak. He's only 31, a good player despite the team's post season failures, and they gotta reduce that $55M cap number.

    Off-season news 2024

"The line looks bad because Russ holds onto the ball too long" was a fairly common thing to hear during the PC/RW years. Are we moving away from that a little now? Is it just possible those lines were in fact not very good, and we haven't improved it enough yet? (And I fully realize both can...

    Off-season news 2024

The new KO rule definitely will take a while to get used to. As written, it comes off like something you would see in the XFL or arena league. As for Eskridge, keeping him for the final year of his deal doesn't hurt much. He's still cut-able if it comes to that, but if not the cost is only...

    Rank this QB class

For my part, I can really only look at it in terms of what teams thought about the players going into the draft because we have no idea what becomes of this class in the NFL. It looks there could be 6 QBs taken in round 1, which has only happened one time in the modern era -- 1983. Michael...

    Off-season news 2024

Hard to remember when we saw this many 1-year contracts in an off-season, or at least it sure seems like we have gone that route a lot more this time. It's setting the table for all sorts of contract flexibility in 2025, but it also means a bow wave of expiring contracts.

    Off-season news 2024

On the topic of why the Footballskins decided to move Howell, there's a theory out there that makes some sense to me: if they're planning to take Drake Maye at #2, they want to avoid the awkwardness of having Howell backing him up when Maye backed up Howell at UNC. I don't know if that's a good...

    QB options for next year

That's fair. I just want the sports media and pundits to be accurate about it if they're going to bring it up, especially if they are suggesting it's relevant to how "we" should evaluate their draft stock.

    QB options for next year

I am not saying the age thing isn't a thing. It's just not being reported accurately on a consistent basis. Neither Penix nor Nix is 25 years old, and neither will be 25 years old at any point in their rookie seasons, but I've heard them both being reported as being that old multiple times...

    QB options for next year

With the ammo the Vikings have, I think the first 4 picks could definitely be all QB. Yeah, harder to gauge those guys. One thing that is sorta bugging me about how people are talking about those 2 players is the age exaggeration. I heard Mike Salk say last week that Penix was 25, when in...

    QB options for next year

For sure there are some players in this class who would not have been there otherwise. Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock has Penix as the 5th QB off the board to the Raiders at #13. He does not have Nix going in round 1.

    QB options for next year

I do think there is a chance 6 QBs could go in the 1st 15 picks. That would be a historical precedent, but I think it's possible due to the amount of talent at that position in this class. But at the same time, the volume of very talented QBs in the same draft also makes it more like some of...

    QB options for next year

Most years? For sure. But this QB crop is way deeper than most years, and the 5th or 6th QB isn't much different in talent vs 2nd or 3rd. Most of the time, the 6th QB goes off the board in the 3rd or 4th round. It might happen in the 1st round or even by pick 15 this year... but if it...

    QB options for next year

Ok, now I am not really sure if you have a salient point because I certainly never said "every" or even most QBs picked after rnd 1 are successful in the NFL. It's a mixed bag, as it is with QBs drafted at the top of rnd 1. When there's a crop of QBs as deep as it is this year, not getting...
  22. JMR

    QB options for next year

Yeah, I am not sure about that. We have plenty of QBs not taken in the first few picks or even the 1st round who end up being successful NFL starters. And I think the Titans are fairly happy with what they have in Levis, but they have opportunity to tell us about that with their draft behavior...

What Will A New HC Mean to Some of Our Veteran Players?

I think it's a bit of a surprise that unless we bring Clowney back, it looks like we will not sign any of Balt's free agent defensive players.

    Off-season news 2024

The move came out of nowhere, but I can't really find much to dislike about it. If all we end up getting from it is a decent backup for 2 years, I think it's a screamin deal for what we paid (to include cap cost of less than the vet min). So we at least have a backup under contract for 2...

    Off-season news 2024

I think it was Flyer who mentioned it previously, but this might be an indication of how the league values cap space when it comes to a QB2, which all 3 of those QBs are at this point. We are paying our QB2 a fraction of what those other teams are paying Fields & Mac Jones, and we have Howell...
