13 years and counting... hard to believe that at one point people expected the Phillies to be one of the best organizations in baseball for decades to come due to the large sums of cash they would get form their TV contracts, merch sales, and the games. Amazing how every one missed that mark...
Some sources say that we have 2 to 3 more weeks till they reach peak in NYC, 4-6 weeks for other areas. The longest out look I've seen is 8 weeks till our peak.
That means things won't be settling down until some time around memorial day if we are lucky.
4 minor league deals inked over the past few days.
Neil Walker for a bench bat (plays 1,2,3 and outfield corners)
Francisco liriano LH relief pitcher. Most likely to be on the roster after spring training.
Bud Norris RH relief pitcher.
Drew Storen coming off of Tommy johns surgery RH...
It appears that Klentack made an interesting comment about Adam Haseley being in center field, instead of Herrera (due to his shenanigans), which means we still owe him 20.5 million spread out over 2 years.
Phillies likely to move on from Odúbel Herrera
FA rumor update:
Madison Bumgarner is looking at several teams Braves, Cardinals, Reds, D'backs, Angels, Twins and Yankees. According to a news article from yahoo MLB rumors: Free agent Madison Bumgarner has interest from seven teams
Anthony Rendon appears to be going to the Angels per MLB...
Well, We do have a new manager, with new staff. I have much more confidence in Joe and the staff he is bringing in vs our previous manager.
I also think the top 2 pitching free agents will command a very steep price.
It may be a slight overpay for Wheeler but he is 29 and has some good upside. This gives us money under the luxury tax and don't forget we have to pay Realmuto. I am not not sure if we will be getting another arm this year or not via FA. Klentack may do some sort of trade. Time will tell...
I don't see anything regarding the 37 year old hitter.
They did offer a a minor league contract to 32 year old Josh Harrison who plays 2nd, 3rd and outfield. Due to injuries he only played 36 games last season. Overall a minor move but could cover for baum until he is ready to get a call up.
With out a doubt we need to grab pitchers in free agency. It will be interesting to see how Joe evaluates our current pitching staff, the team could be very busy during the winter meetings.
Part of me would like to see Hamels back, the question is I am not sure if he is worth 20 million a year...
I'll step out of the dark...
I am glad Kappler is gone... I didn't like his initial signing.
Phillies got a much better manager in Joe. This doesn't solve the talent issues in pitching. At least there won't be people playing Fortenite during the game.
Gerrit Cole should be a big priority...
Wentz was in the running for the league MVP prior to his injury. To trade wentz would be short sighted... I can see the Eagles making it to the SB several times with Wentz over the next 5 - 10 years.
I actually sat and watched most of the game yesterday which is a first in a long time.
Wentz looks good, there are 3 things that he needs to work on. 1. Stop fumbling. 2. Get the ball up... so there is little chance for a knocked down pass or a pass that bounces off of a lineman. 3. Deep pass...
Rumor was that his injury that he had and age may have slowed his snap time down.
Sucks to see long term fan faves go but its always better to remember them in their prime vs watching them lose to time like Ryan Howard.
he is gone... a 100 loss season he won't be back.
Herrera should get the boot too but most likely they will give the next manager and coaching staff to fix this moron.
He was ranked 16th for guards in the league according to pro football focus. Eagles have plenty of young talent and we needed to unload the salary.
Overall a good deal for both teams.
