Arbitration is binding.
Yes, if they keep him. Thew Giants CAN (not saying they should or will) simply release him after the arb result (and before Mar 8th) and will only be on the hook for 30 days’ termination pay (about 1/6 of his yearly salary, a tad over $1M for him).
Edit : a bit out of...
Out of curiosity, why are people thinking Hicks will be the #4 or #5 starter? Just because we need one more starter?
He has never started a SINGLE game in the majors, and only once pitched 70 innings or more.
Edit: Oops, just noticed there was another page that I hadn't read. Ignore this ...

Which says for the Giants (January 11, 2024 at 11:40am CDT) :
Austin Slater (5.147): $4MM agreement in November
J.D. Davis (5.137): Did not reach agreement, likely to file (via...

Yeah, rumor has it that he's going in for (his second) elbow surgery. That will affect 2024, but who knows after. Chances are that a 2nd surgery will have an effect on his pitching.
What do you mean by "part time player" ?? He played in 135 games last year and led the AL in HRs, OBP, TB, and (duh) OPS.
His started 23 games in '23 (*WhIP of 1.086), and started 28 games in '22 (*WhIP of 1.01).
Or am I just being a HF?
FZ -has- brought in cheap, decent filler, but his methods are nothing to endear any of the players to the fans. We all know that they might no longer be with the team in 90 days.
There isn’t a fan favorite to be found. There isn’t a connection between the fans and the team. There isn’t anything on the horizon for the smart-fans to grasp onto.
I guess that you are talking about the minors? What about the guys that blossomed on the Giants? Yaz, Flores, Web.
However, the...

The press are stating "contract includes significant deferrals" - so it most likely WON'T be $70M/yr. Maybe $35M/yr for 20 years? Still a lot of change, but ...
Let's just hope that rumors of him needing a 2nd Tommy John surgery are correct.
Willing to trade for Ohtani?
Absolutely not. The Giants need 3 or 4 GOOD players, not ONE great player. A Ohtani contract would cripple the team roster for years.
The Dodgers have an advantage, like the yankees. Two actually :
1) they own their own cable baseball channel and the owners make LOTS of money off the TV side, not sharable via MLB rules (the TEAM doesn't own the channel, just the same guys that own the team).
2) Shmucks all over the US have a...

To be a little snotty about it, FZ *isn't* building a team. He is building a money printing machine. On the other hand, he DID find quite a few "good" and "above average" youngsters...
Although I agree with a lot of this, I guess that I have a slightly different prospective overall.
1) They had their championship runs BECAUSE they *developed* key players in-house, and brought in FAs (or guys from the farm) to complement them (and who often had career years). Posey, Belt...
So many of the names being brought up, I have no idea who they are. I stopped paying to much attention once F started his shuffleboard games with the roster.
If it were a song :
"put the righthander in, take the righthander out, then you shake him all about..."
They probably had a "handshake deal" with at least two of them. You know "we want you, but you need to rehab and we want to be able to sign big name FA for the active roster. Will you sign a minor league deal?" .
Yeah, I interacted with BruteSentiment on a different board (can't remember which one) that went belly up about 6-9 years ago. Always had a good head on his shoulders ... if a bit opinionated at times. (like all of us :) )
Some extra details :
- if the player has at least 3 years of MLB service he can refuse the assignment and ask to be released BUT the club does not have to honor any contract. If he accepts the assignment, the club must honor the contract while he is in the minors. I remember a player for the...
That makes sense - thx
PS - it might be useful to "tag" that it is the final arb year (it is possible to have either 3 or 4 arb-elig years, depending on whether they earned their first arb year during their 2nd or 3rd season) - unless they changed the rules again. I didn't read the latest CBA.
