    Best War Movie

Of the ones you listed, Full Metal Jacket. The Hurt Locker would have been the one I'd have chosen. I feel Saving Private Ryan is a bit overrated.

Hm, well if they had done it well I think it could have worked, given that the premise was his ability to make gadgets from nothing; there are plenty of more modernized ideas they could have used to make it seem realistic. Though if the 'remake everything' trend that's a thing in Hollywood now...

    Ana Ivanovic retires from Tennis

I think Sharapova is past her peak though, just like with Roger Federer.

    Worst TV Shows

Sounds like an improvement over what I've seen of the more recent episodes. Seems like they were just chock full of obscure references and inside jokes that most people wouldn't get.

    Everything and Anything Superhero-Related

Oh great, well that sure worked out well for Ghostbusters, which made half of what the same director's other films all made, despite having over 3X the budget, lol. Might not receive the same negative backlash though, since at least they aren't reinventing the characters as women just to...

    Everything and Anything Superhero-Related

Not sure how that one would do, seems like it's just trying to milk the popularity of the Harley Quinn character in Suicide Squad for all it's worth; might just be a one-trick pony.

John Wick was good, but it's not a superhero movie is it?

Some reality shows are actually decent opportunities for observing psychology in action, as far as the people who actually get 'involved' with them and care about the characters, that's pretty embarrassing.

    Worst TV Shows

Almost all sitcoms - Seinfield had potential, sitcoms prior to the 90s weren't always bad. Nearly every sitcom sense then has been pretty degenerate in various ways - Friends is definitely one of the most degenerate, others such as Everybody Loves Raymond, the Big Bang Theory, Two Broke Girls...

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Your beliefs that you've expressed about politics and religion seem to come word for word from the Humanist ideology. Just because you don't go to a Humanist Church doesn't mean you don't share their beliefs.

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

You have belief in Humanism, so that would be a lie. Of course you don't, because Humanism isn't science and is an nonscientific belief system, it just claims to be "based on science" much like Scientology: Council for Secular Humanism We believe that scientific discovery and technology can...

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Fixed, thanks for proving my point about cults, such as Humanism trying to deny what it is despite its own statement of faith available for reading online, and simply identifying as atheism, rather than it's actual belief system Nice try...

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Must be why Humanists are still denying their belief system and refusing to identify as anything other than "atheist" in public - in spite of their Humanist Churches and Chaplains who have tax exempt status, and the forefather of the faith itself admitting it's a secular religion. Their...

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Not that complicated, but you're not very informed on the definition of cult now are you? You can start with Rickross.com Not really, Humanism is quite a bit closer to a cult, since one of the signs of a cult is being intentionally dishonest about what one's beliefs are until people get in the...

Oscars / Academy Awards General Discussion (Not Specific to Any Year)

Probably closer to the entertainment value of Jerry Springer reruns, but crass entertaiment is still entertainment nonetheless.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

That's what it looked like to me, won't be watching it. Makes me think of "Terminator Salvation" in the sense of just a generic action film with "Terminator" slapped on to get people to go see it.

Oscars / Academy Awards General Discussion (Not Specific to Any Year)

Personal opinion is that the Oscar winning films in recent years have felt dumber than those of older eras, such as the Godfather films. Like "No Country for Old Men" - was a decent flick, but overrated and didn't feel remotely Oscar worthy, I'd rank it about in the same category as John Wick.

Oscars / Academy Awards General Discussion (Not Specific to Any Year)

So any review website you use, or do you just go on your own gut instinct? I used to look at Rotten Tomatoes but lately I've been disappointed with it and there doesn't seem to be much consistency, I think Metacritic's a better source.

Oscars / Academy Awards General Discussion (Not Specific to Any Year)

Haven't watched the Oscars in god knows how long; any movie buffs here who think the Oscars still have any merit in regards to quality filmmaking from an art critic's perspective, or today are they more just a celebrity 'popularity contest' like the Grammies?

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

There was an HBO documentary on Scientology awhile back, seems that the majority of PR about them today is negative, and I doubt they're taking in many converts, just doing everything they can to keep the remaining members from leaving. Supposedly now they're expanding their operations more to...

Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath

Well hey if she ends Scientology, then the next religion on the chopping block should definitely be Humanism, or the "Religion of Humanity" as Auguste Comte used to call it back in the days of the French Revolution; Reading their statement of faith gives me the chills: The Affirmations of...
