Nick Saban is going to be paid for coaching a COLLEGE FOOTBALL team $11 million Dollars per year!!...the Average for a Professional HC is $5million per year...and in case you wanted to know... Belichick makes 7.5 million....

How can that be possible?

They brought this up on Good Morning America today...Stephen A Smith and some chick side kick said he was worth every penny...not that I held Stephen A Smith in regard in any way, but he slipped further than down the line than he was before...clearly did no homework on just out CRAZY that salary is..

$4 million of that gets Wv a new indoor practice facility...or close to it....

IF Holgorsen is worth $3 million, Saban, among the best to ever coach the game, is a bargain at $11 million....

:scratch::scratch:

So he's worth twice as much as this guy??????
:billb:
I guess the folks in 'Bama think so!
Belichick: NFL, $7.5 million, 237-115( .673) 5 titles over 22 years as NFL HC
Saban: CFB, $11 million, 205-61-1 (.767) 4 titles at 'Bama, one split title at LSU in 21 years as CFB HC,
Both are great coaches, top in their respective sports, both salaries are obscene!!!
The thing to compare to me isn't a CFB coach to an NFL coach, as they are two completely different sports, in the NFL the players are more the stars, in CFB the coaches are the stars. The real question to me are the $5 million coaches that have done nothing, and the $9 million that scUM is paying.

The real BLATANT issue is here is a guy they can afford to pay 11 million dollars a year working off the backs of 18 year old kids for what an "Education" which is nothing but a paper loss and a 2500.00 stipend?...the coaches in the pros get paid less because they are actually PAYING their employees...

I think Bama wanted to keep Saban a good $2M above the next highest paid HC. Harbaugh went to $9M last year, and this made Saban the 2nd highest paid coach during the '16 season.

And, that is unacceptable...

Unless Shane was running the athletic department at Bama. Then he would be sure to stay conservative to best control the interests of the university.

I do not think college players should be paid, they are receiving a free education, free training, free medical care, free room and board. We, who are not athletes, paid to go to school to learn our chosen field. The universities make money from research, mostly done by graduate students who are at the best getting a free scholarship, that makes the athletic budgets look like chump change, so, should every student who is involved in research that brings in revenue be paid? I have thought a LOT about the issue, and have always come to the same answer, they who are making the school money (the star athletes) go to the pros and get MORE than rewarded for their efforts. There is some money being made at some high schools also, so should high school athletes get paid? If football players are paid, why not volleyball players?

Because there is no money being made in Volleyball.....

Your analogy is the same as Nike making 400.00 basketball shoes off the backs of Taiwanese sweatshops lucky they get enough money to eat shit once a day..

Not anything alike.....The nike factory workers are facing a lifetime of working 12 hour days for a bowl of shit soup. The football players have a lifetime ahead of them in America, where they can either make millions from football if they are good enough, or make a good living in whatever they studied JUST LIKE THE REST OF US!! Four years of living basically free, a university degree, and all the opportunity in the world is nothing to bitch about. How would you propose to pay the football players? Would every player be paid the same? Would "stars" be paid more? By the way, MOST colleges do NOT make money in their athletic departments, they are NOT making millions on anyone's back.......

If they ain't making money they should Fire the Ad and everyone in Accounting!..

So I just want to get this right...you think Nick Saban who makes 11 million per season off the back so of 18 year olds who's in state tuition is 10K per year( On Paper) sounds right to you? That would be an hourly pay rate of $4.80..........

SCHOOL IS NOT A JOB!!!! college football is NOT a job, it is a game. What Saban, or any other coach is making has nothing to do with it, these are kids, playing an extracurricular game, NOT employees!! They are learning a skill, be it in pro football or a regular job later on. You say $10,000 a year, it is MUCH more than that. A college graduate earns about $1,000,000 more in their lifetime than a HS graduate.
Research Summary: Education and Lifetime Earnings
How many of these kids would be even in a discussion about a college education without that football scholarship? How many kids from inner cities would be dead or working dead end jobs without Saban making money "on their backs"? These kids are being given the opportunity of a lifetime because they are gifted at playing a game!

Athletics departments that make more than they spend still a minority
I guess 80% of ADs need to be fired then......

Sorry boys...I gotta agree with ol' Pap here. They get more than just 10K in tuition. If you add up everything else like room, board, etc, it far exceeds $5/hr as Slaton stated. As someone who will be paying back student loans for a LONG time, I can't feel sorry for them.

Normally, I don't feel bad for the athletes. They are rewarded with schollys and perks. Now when coaches are making 11M per year, I start to cringe. My issue is that I think that athletic programs should help support the school and not just the athletic department. Just take half of Saban's salary and put it to work for education. That could be tuition for 5,500 Alabama students. That could be $55,000 for each player on the team if you wanted to play the players.

Should the NCAA put a salary cap on coaches? There is lots of money available for P5 schools and it gets spent on coaches and sports facilities. This is an arms race and as long as the money is there, it will be spent. Is it really being spent in the right places?

I can get on board with capping coaches salaries. You know that the majority of the $$ goes to the programs that generate the most profit (football, mens basketball, etc) and to a point, that needs to be done because it's your cash cow. However, because of this, it seems that some of the smaller, less popular sports might get left out in the cold as far as funding goes. I may be wrong on my assumption but if true, the 5.5M that you used for an example could go a LONG way in providing upgrades to those less known programs.
