Anyone surprised he didn't get drafted the 1st round? I'm not surprised at all. Jacksonville may draft him with the 3rd pick of the second round or I could see him going to the Jets at 7th. Regardless, he is going to be gone the 2nd round. On other notes: What the hell was Chicago thinking? I loved Cleveland's first round.

No, not surprised at all. I think a lot of NFL scouts think he's an uncooked chicken. All the raw ability is there, they want to be sure he is able to read pro level defenses. He was never viewed as a guy who could come in and start on day one, he'd learn the system backing someone up for a year or two.

I do think he's the best avail QB left right now.

And sorry Chicago fans, that was one of the worst draft day maneuvers I have ever seen. I don't think there's one "can't miss" QB in this draft that was worth giving up all those picks just to move up one spot, when most of the reports were that SF was going to take Solomon Thomas no matter what. Your GM panicked.

I'm not surprised. But I am surprised at how the Bears got played on pick #2. (Just thought I'd throw that out). I like to see all ND players do well in the draft, and I think Kizer will make out well, but I never saw him at the level that a lot of guys did. I'm looking forward to seeing Wimbush this year. With McGlinchey sticking around, I think we will have a strong offense this year. One more time, it's going to come around to defense.

I may be in the distinct minority, but Mike McGlinchey to me seems over-rated. He's often described as our best O lineman and undisputed leader of the unit. But he was mediocre in transitioning to LT, played underweight for a tackle (more S & C coaches fault than his, but still), and earned the nickname, McFlinchey for the many false starts he had last year.

He wasn't spectacular in the Spring Game. He is considered a lock for a first round pick but I am just not seeing it right now. I think he has all the potential in the world to be the best LT in college ball, but I think he needs to improve quite a bit to earn that title.

Which is too bad, because we'll need the O line to step it up big time this year.

I think he's better in the running game, but I don't think we have a coach committed to the running game, even though he says he is.

HaHaHaHa I loved the Bears move. Pace got rooked by the rook.

I think Nelson is the teams best O-Lineman but that is me.

I tend to agree. McGlinchey can be very, very good. I am worried if he doesn't live up to his potential, we can struggle this year, and, once again, we're going to have to put up a lot of points to have a chance at winning

I think He completely underperformed last year, mostly due to his stupid and numerous penalties. But I keep hearing that the strength and conditioning program is much better than what we had, and someone like McGlinchey with his build will be able to take advantage of it. I think the rest of the line looks good, and I think both Adams and Dexter Williams will have big years. I also think Alize Jones (Mack) will make Wimbush a better qb than Kizer was last year. I am optimistic about this year (as I always am)

That's going to take some getting used to.

I think this will be the hardest Sept. slate they've had in a while (and they usually have tough Septembers). But Temple is one of those teams you should beat, but are good enough to make you miserable doing it, or worse, could pull off the upset. The coaching change there may change that dynamic a bit.

GA, I hope we don't get a sea of red in our own house, but I think this is the kind of game that if they win, they'll start to believe in themselves. Then two road games to Mich. St. and BC, two games that are never gimmies. and then Miami of Ohio, again, a team I wouldn't worry about, except their coach knows BK probably better than anyone else on the planet, save maybe his wife.

Kizer to Cleveland in the 2d round. Let's hope he fares better than the last ND QB they drafted.

I am surprised because to be honest he has the highest ceiling. He has the tools and talent but the 1 bad year hurt him and that is why Kelly said he should of stayed.Looks like Kelly was right but to be honest Next years class is loaded so I don't know if he would of been a 1st rd pick next year unless he went crazy. I mean they are saying 5 QBs will be drafted in the 1st rd next year.

Totally agree with the whole McFlinchey deal. Drove me absolutely mad last year.

I will say this much to his size. I was in B-Dubs other nite waiting to pick up a carry-out order. As I got it & started walking out I heard some guy say "Thank You" as he tapped my shoulder. I'm like WTF and turn around toward the voice ... a huge monster of a dude who stuck his hand out to shake mine. I'm not putting the 2+2 together as this big dude that I don't know from Adam is wanting to shake my hand ... why? He notices that I'm befuddled and points out to the Retired Navy Master Chief jacket I'm wearing and says "I had alot of family (uncles) in the Navy and wanted to say thanks". I'm like duhhhh as it dawned on me. I noticed he was wearing ND Football jacket and with his size I auto-ask if he was on football team. He goes, "Yep ... Mike McGlinchey". I shake his hand and laughing in my head at my stupidity of the moment. Dude's fricken hand swallows mine in the handshake. I keep my mouth shut bout all the things I woulda loved to have said about the false starts and say "glad you decided to stay another year, right thing to do and I hope he had made the right decision & good luck the upcoming year".

Yuuuuge dood I'm tellin ya. The one thing that kept going thru my mind as I walked to my car ... "Man, I'm glad I don't have to line up opposite that guy on Saturdays."

:D

I don't question his physical gifts, and as I said before, the coaches did him a dis-service letting him play at under 300 lbs. I hope he can put it together and have a great season. I'd have them go behind Q Nelson and McGlinchey until they can stop them, if it were up to me.

I'll just be happy if he stops with the boneheaded penalties and shows much improvement from last season's 'let downs'. Mebbe he's beefed up big-time since last year. I couldn't believe how big this dude was, though.

You made me laugh with the McFlinchey line, but I'm holding out hope that the S&C program can get some more out of him this year.

Heh ... I can't take total credit for that one. @jjc2009 mentioned it first in prior post ... I just responded in agreement to a well-deserved nick. :)
