Absolutely. SF rolled the Bears on the Thomas trade, (got the guy I wanted to boot) then traded back up into the 1st to get a top 10 overall talent in Foster. If his shoulder holds up - which is iffy - it may be the best pick of the round. Lynch and co. deserve 'A's' and as you said, if someone told me that SF would get Thomas, and an extra 3rd in this years and a 3rd in next years draft, I woulda been satisfied.

The icing is that we also got a potential stud in Foster on top of that.

I don't have a problem saying you think you picked well but don't inflate the ego of the pick or give ammo to the agent. You only say that for your fan base and ultimately it is counter productive and sometimes it's just BS or often seen as BS so don't do it.

I doubt his ego has been inflated by dropping from top ten to bottom of the first round if anything it's pissed him off and he'll play with a chip on his shoulder.

If they had moved back to say Cleveland I would have said they needed to get more picks even if they lucked into Thomas which would have been doubtful.

Not that concerned about the rotator cuff. If it was a another ACL pick I would be worried. The off the field issues are a concern though as is his apparent stubbornness

I'm fine if they stick with defense in Round 3 (two high picks), even if they trade up into late Round 2, fine with that.

Someone for Leo (Jordan Willis?), or wide ranging Safety (Budda Baker?), or a CB (Desmond King?) all work.

i get the gist but nowadays, aren't rookie contracts 'slotted'?

If.....IF there are more issues, then IMO get it right first. Even if you miss part of the season, get it right first. A re-injury due to coming back too early, is worse.

Surgery on any first round pick is negative for me. Seems like this never works for the 9ers. Off field issues can be handled if he is willing.

5 Day-2 targets for 49ers in NFL draft

In lieu of Cam Robinson, this Moton guy looks interesting? Maybe draft him end of Round 4 or in Round 5?

Hopefully with time, Foster can get back to 100%. I do hope he does not need more surgery. Let him heal up and see if he will be ready by training camp.

Don't know who they think fits (to me Peterman makes the most sense), but i forgot about this spot. Not force a QB, but see if anyone now has value?

Yea, with the 49ers why has the surgery not worked out? It seems that it always had to do with knee surgery and Baalke's ACL picks. Rotator cuffs are completely different than having knee and foot issues. The key to off the field issues is whether he is willing and that is what concern me more than anything.

These are the players I think the 49ers will draft on Days 2 and 3 of the draft, given the players they drafted on Day 1.

Round 3, pick No. 66: Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida. The Niners have to take the best cornerback available with this pick or they’ll be stuck with Dontae Johnson in their starting lineup. Wilson is a big cornerback who allowed a completion percentage of less than 40 on passes thrown his direction in 2016.

Round 3, pick No. 67: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame. I originally predicted the Niners would draft Kizer in the second round but it seems he may fall to the third round. I still believe he’s the quarterback Kyle Shanahan wants.

Round 4, pick No. 109: Tedric Thompson, FS, Colorado. The Niners need a starting-caliber safety in case Jimmie Ward doesn’t pan out at his new position. Thompson intercepted seven passes in 2016.

Round 4, pick No. 143. Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson. A pass-catching tight end who will drop to the end of the fourth round because he’s a poor blocker.

Round 5, pick No. 146. Joe Williams, RB, Utah. The most explosive running back in the draft. Williams also has the skills to return kicks even though he didn’t return them in college.

Round 5, pick No. 161. Keion Adams, DE, Western Michigan. A former basketball player who has terrific “get off” and “bend” for an edge rusher, as draft experts say.

Round 6, pick No. 198. Brian Allen, CB, Utah. A 6’3″ cornerback who used to play wide receiver — similar to Richard Sherman.

Round 6, pick No. 202. Isaiah McKenzie, WR/PR, Georgia. One of the best punt returners in the draft. McKenzie also fits Shanahan’s physical profile for a small wide receiver (think Taylor Gabriel).

Round 7, pick No. 219. Corey Levin, OG, Chattanooga. A small-school guard who fits Shanahan’s outside-zone-blocking scheme.

Since the Round 3 picks are back to back, doesn't matter who we look at first. So the two spots i'd prefer filling are QB and Leo. If none there, then i'd think that wide ranging Safety would be next?

Prefer Peterman over Kizer, but not going to break the TV over it.

If no far ranging Safety, a CB works for me.

yep, don't know what is the appropriate round, but prefer him. He seems to have better intangibles ,which is even more important for Shannahan's scheme.
