Time to start the coaching search

Spoiler alert: Kelly is going to be fired at the end of the season. He sunk back into the game plan he had before he came to ND: score fast and play minimal defense. It simply doesn't win championships at this level. Hiring a new OC is cool, but he can't change anything, all his personnel fits into a spread, QB run option offense. And the defense is still trash. Even in a spring game no competent defense is giving up multiple 30+ yard run plays. We're gonna go around 8-5 again, like we always do.

Any good names available?

Did you hear Jack Swarbrick's interview. He sounds every bit like a guy who knows his wagon is tied to Kelly.

Better expand that search for a top flight AD. Then maybe they can get the right coach.

I don't think Kelly was a bad hire at the time though, it just eventually didn't work out. I'd give Swarbrick another shot to hire the right coach.

I don't know, I don't really see Kelly being fired after the season unless the Irish finish 6-6 or worse.

The biggest reason being, who's going to replace him that's any better? Coaches today aren't exactly lining up at the door to coach a program with such academic restrictions, when they can coach Alabama, Ohio St, Oklahoma etc. and run programs how they wish.

You aren't going to get one of those guys you'll have to hire a up and coming type coach

I don't think Notre Dame will ever get an elite coach with an already polished resume. I also think Mike Sanford is still the next head coach at Notre Dame. It just a matter of when and I'm totally fine with him getting a shot.

Hopefully not but most of the past coaches made their names at Notre Dame.
