All the flack the Sixers got for tanking and the Lakers have been worse offenders. Hopefully their stadium is on a fault line that erupts soon.

They have a terrible defense.
Fultz or Ball doesn't help that.
2018 unprotected pick will be fine.

We need to make trades with Nets and Suns to make them better than LAL.....

Paul George is the only major concern.

Not worried about that.
Deng/Mozgov take up 1/3 cap space for the next 3 years.
George takes up fairly close to 1/3, if not more with an extension.
Eventually need money for Randle, Clarkson, Russell, then Ingram (Indiana will want the younger players first).

Just not sustainable with their current roster and salary allocation.

Agreed -- but the Lakers are a better team next year if, for example, they swapped Deng, Ingram, their 2017 first rounder, and pick whatever else it takes to get the deal done for Paul George. Suddenly, maybe they're a 35-40 win team instead of a 25-30 win team.

Also, would just be nice to see them have to lose their 2019 pick too, fuck em.

Why didn't Orlando tank harder? They're going nowhere this year and in constant rebuilding mode. To top it off, they get the Lakers 2019 first round pick if the Lakers pick conveys to the 76ers this year. They could have dramatically increased their odds of a top pick in 2017 AND an additional top pick in 2019 if they just had the wisdom to completely suck this year. Instead, they ended up doing that weird trade for Ibaka and then trading Ibaka, all the while finishing with a better record than the Lakers but still being pretty terrible. Sad!

By the same token, why were the Lakers so happy to go on a winning streak at the end of the season?

My conspiracy theory -- they want to convince Silver that they weren't blatantly tanking, thereby giving them good will with the commissioner and increasing their chances of a top 3 pick, sort of like the Hinkie-for-Colangelo situation.

Everything kind of broke our way last night.
Sixers cliniched 4th worst.
SAC clinched 8th worst.

LAL have 156 combinations.
PHI has 147.

Praise be to Hinkie...

Somebody correct me if any of my assumptions are wrong ... I love watching the sport, but I'm not 100% on draft rules/trades specifics:

Any team other than the Lakers jumps in to the top 3 including ourselves or Sacramento ... it would mean that the Lakers would drop to 4 or below which would give us their pick?

If Sacramento ends up with a top 3 pick and we don't ... would mean we can switch spots with them?

Not necessarily. The lottery has a number of combinations as options. Think back a few years ago when the bottom of the league was Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, and the Lakers. The Lakers jumped into the second spot in the lottery but it didn't necessarily bump us back a spot. We ended up picking 3rd and New York fell to 4th.

Yes.

That would be beautiful. Who would you take? Fultz and Jackson (if available)? Fultz and package #4, Okafor, and the 76ers or Kings 2019 pick for Paul George? Is that better than anything anyone else can offer for him (maybe outside of Boston)?

So the only 3 spots being contested are the top 3 right? After that the remaining teams are set in order from 4-11?

You got it. So the Lakers are guaranteed a top 6 pick. There's a 46.9% chance it lands in the top 3 and a 53.1% chance it lands 4 through 6 (and conveys to the 76ers.)

We should be in pretty good shape any way you slice it ... even if we are not in the top 3, I'd be just fine with either Dennis Smith or De'Aaron Fox running Point for us next season. If we also get the Laker's pick ... watch out!

So, here's a question -- who DON'T you want?

Lonzo Ball tops my list. Aside from the circus that he calls "Dad," I don't think his skill set will mesh with Ben Simmons. There are just so many other options that should be available that are very talented and should fit better with the 76ers.

I'll also add Malik Monk to the list, with a caveat. If we only end up with one pick, I don't think we can spend it on a guy like Monk, who should be a good player but I need to see more out of his defense to add him as a building block. But let's say we end up with two picks, then I am totally down with drafting him, since we need someone that can score the way he scores.

Last, but not least, Jayson Tatum. Really has nothing to do with his abilities but I'm terrified of drafting a player from Duke right now. Duke draftees have not fared well in the last few drafts. Is that a good reason? Probably not.

Definitely in agreement with first two.

Only way I would draft Tatum is if we have those two picks.
He could be a nice compliment player that can play right away...

If we only end up with one pick and it's #4 or #5, I'm really hoping that we're able to land Dennis Smith (assuming Fultz and Jackson are gone by then). It'd be tough to draft another player coming off a major injury, but I don't see any reason to believe that Smith won't recover fully.
