Pelfrey's was maybe the stupidest contract in baseball last year. And all of us said so at the time. The Lowe contract wasn't far behind. Strike one, strike two on Avila.

While unimportant, not resigning his kid, just because he's his kid, was also dumb.

I get not wanting to be accused of nepotism, but he's a back up catcher.

Looks like the Tigers start the season as follows. Could be some late changes, but based on cuts and assignments, this appears to be the 25.

Starting Pitchers:
Justin Verlander
Jordan Zimmermann
Daniel Norris
Michael Fulmer
Matt Boyd

Bullpen:
Francisco Rodriguez (CL)
Justin Wilson
Alex Wilson
Bruce Rondon
Shane Greene
Anibal Sanchez
Kyle Ryan

Catchers:
James McCann
Alex Avila

Infielders:
Miguel Cabrera
Ian Kinsler
Jose Iglesias
Nick Castellanos
Andrew Romine
Dixon Machado

Outfielders:
Justin Upton
JaCoby Jones
Tyler Collins
Mikie Mahtook

DH:
Victor Martinez

JaCoby Jones was announced as the starting center fielder. He will play against LHPs and "some" RHPs. His backup will be Andrew Romine. Collins and Mahtook will platoon in RF until JD Martinez returns. At that point, Collins becomes the primary backup in CF, with Romine resuming a full-time infield backup role.

I got the Tigers winning 88 this season and in the playoffs
My guess for this year.

Injuns- 91-71
Tigers - 86-76
Royals- 79-83
Twins- 77-85
White Sox- 64-98

If they'd bring in another MLB quality outfielder I'd feel real good about this year.
I'm excited for the season even with a situation thats bound to fail out there to start off.

I have the Tigers at 83 wins. Still have very good top players, but not enough depth in the system to survive any major injuries.

Sign Melvin Upton!

Now.

Melvin - formerly BJ - is owed $5mil by Toronto. I'd wait and see. If Detroit can get Toronto to pick up $4mil of what they owe him, I'd go for it. Those 155 K's (.238 BA) last year don't thrill me.

We have one outfielder and Tyler Collins right now.

I can't believe no one hasn't signed Pagan. There must be something wrong with him, that no one is mentioning.

I read the other day that we recently talked to him.

So has Atlanta, Milwaukee and somebody else.

He's asking for 12-15 I guess. Idk. I wouldn't complain if they brought him in. Just figured he was out of our price range.

80% chance of rain at game time. Doesn't look good for enjoying any opening day baseball this afternoon.
