No one's denying that. But it's money well invested. The Cowboys will get every penny of that investment. Can't say the same for other, more brittle players at that position.

Not mentioning any names of course...
more brittle, perhaps...but 100% more of a game changer than witten ever dreamed to be. witten is a solid guy who plays hard thru 16 games. hes a HOFer if you ask me. steady, dependable, and had a few great years...

but gronk chews him up and spits him out as far as tight ends go.

That's only because you can't spell his last name! :D

When he's on the field, Gronk is superior to any TE in the game. When he's not on the field, he has zero impact. Therein lies the problem.

technically, thats not true. when hes not on the field, it just opens the offense up to other targets. it actually opens the offense up MORE when hes not running those seams.

Same could be said for a lot of TEs.

Nothing wrong with that.

100% seems like a cap saving move. Witten was due $12M this year... the Cowboys are in negative cap space, they can't even sign rookies at this point. I'm honestly shocked they didn't just cut Witten and save $8M, but they probably found a way to save the $8M with the contract extension and keep a vet player and all time great TE.
So much wrong or completely made up here. You should have just stopped at the bolded

It's $0 guaranteed on the restructure. Sure they'll keep him around if he's producing, but it's absolutely a cap saving move and various people on this thread including other sites (like walter football) completely agree.

Stop being such a pussy with regards to anyone making a comment about your precious Cowboys. I also did say "All time great TE" and posted my thoughts on cap savings before contract details were disclosed. But I should've stopped before that? Get over yourself.

Can you even read? Yes it's a cap saving move. I told you that you should have stopped there because it was the only thing you got right.

He wasn't "due" $12M, his cap hit was $12M. They are nowhere near negative cap space, they already have more than enough cap space. Saying you were shocked they didn't cut him is just dopey. It wasn't just your ridiculous opinions from that point on, all of your subsequent facts were WRONG. Sorry to have to tell you. go back and try again because even your trolling was poor...or you're just an idiot

Hmm fair enough. I was looking at this:

NFL 2017 Cap Tracker

With the draft + 51 they only have $500K, and that was after the Witten restructure. I thought it was negative yesterday. How are they nowhere near negative cap space? Perhaps I'm reading it wrong?

the missing question here is whether Witten will finally shave his head or will he hang on to the few strands of hair he has left.

Pretty old for that long of an extension, but I don't know much about his health.
