I'm not so sure I want to buy into his bullshit.
He has said several things that have either blown up in his face, or have just been a complete failure on his part.
He has for many years bullshited all of us with his philosophies and it's not gotten us any closer. He needs to put up or shut up.

In the beginning of his stay in the Burg he rode the coattails of Cowhers team, and tried very hard to keep that team together. Now he has tried to put his team together, there have been shining moments and Shit moments. But at the end of the day, he is still short of the goal.

Sorry guys, I've heard this story before and it's time for him to put up or shut up.

@FaCe-LeE-uS @ATL96Steeler
Hasn't gotten us any closer? He got us to the AFCCG Psych! Which had been 6 years since PIT's last appearance... But I'm just bustin your balls. I think I know exactly what you mean.

Even though he's fairly consistent, he doesn't have much to show for it.

There's still plenty to be optimistic about. Through 10 seasons, Tomlin's teams have only missed the playoffs 3 times. Granted yes he rode the coattails of Cowher for about 5 years before he really had to rebuild. This team suffered through a couple 8-8 seasons due in large part to draft failures of '08 & '09, even '12. But seeing how each year they have been getting 1 step closer is good news. It's painful as fans to see them go so far, yet fall so hard. Tomlin is definitely approaching Andy Reid territory. Statistically speaking, both coaches are phenomenal, rarely missing the playoffs. But they still just can't seem to get the job done when it matters most.

It's been a frustrating 6 years since losing the SB to GB... But nobody can deny that they are legitimate contenders every year for the last 3 years. I think the biggest defining moment in Tomlin's career will be when Ben retires. Then we'll truly see what Tomlin's made of.

What you say is right Psych...especially the shining and shit.

There is a high standard in PIT. That rebuild from Cowher had to happen and it was extensive. Every level of the DEF had to be over hauled. For a young guy taking over that could not have known what he was doing with personnel, he has the team on the cusp again. It has not been smooth (Hood & Jarvis Jones) but that's actually not a terrible job so far...as I've said many times...my biggest beef with him is getting to the AFCCG LY and laying down like a bitch.

Assuming Ben plays most of the games, anything less than the DIV championship in '17 in my mind I think we can start the hotseat for Mike T.

Guess we should just be happy that he's acknowledging it. 99% of the time we don't get this much out of him, so there's that. But yea these issues have been around a long time.

I'd love to see them make a splash move in the 1st or 2nd round. If they can grab a legit edge guy that could at the very least split snaps with Deebo, and then grab a DB that can contribute in his 1st year... That would make a pretty big impact next year. But I'm trying to prepare myself for a wild couple of picks. Like if a WR or QB got drafted by them in the 1st. It would infuriate me, but what can we do?

Nothing we can do, but come in here and complain...lol

I do think D Rooney wants to see a QB taken in this draft, so I'm thinking we're going to see one 94 maybe even 62. Something crazy would need to happen imo to see that happen at 30.

Tomlin...yeah I guess. I knew FA would be much like it was. I'm anxious to see how they respond in this draft...some action behind those comments! Go get somebody that play man, and go get some body that can get to the QB!

Who is Stewart working for now? CBS dumped him off his radio gig here I think maybe 2 yrs ago.
Last I heard he was co-hosting the "NFL No Huddle" on TuneIn radio.

Oh...good for him. He was decent on radio, but they improved a great deal with his replacement. I think he still has a place here I understand.

He talks a big game, but there is always something that keeps us from going to the dance.
We all see where the problems are, and it's not like they try to fix or mask the problems because we see them week in and week out. When he has his press conference and some dumbass reporter, who also saw what we saw, asks him about it.....he answers with some goofy ass philosophical line of shit leaving everyone in the room thinking, wow he is smart.... Come on Dude in the beginning we all bought into his shit with the big fancy talk shit....Even I did. But now its more like shut up and fix it, I'm not going to be blinded by your big fancy talk. Talk on the field.

He has done some good, but this last season with the bullshit side shows was way over the top. And he knew it was going on....had too. Hell AB was doing live feeds during training camp, practices, locker room...and it wasn't just him.

Now and most recently, this D shit. I don't care what he says....there is no way he did NOT tamper with the D in the Pats game. We had them in the first quarter....sacks, run stop....we looked good. Thenthe second quarter started and it went to shit (zone) and we folded like a fuckin lawn chair. How do you allow your team to dominate one quarter then take the rest of the day off??? It was a joke.

He has for the most part done an ok job with personnel, but the execution of them and the handling of the team has been lax. I dare say, many of these guys probably look at him as Bro, and not coach. It seem more of a buddy thing than like with Cowher and Noll....as to where you screw up, you did not want to go to the sidelines. To much showboating, and glamour queen shit and not enough discipline.

He can pick some decent guys and some shitty guys....but he can't get the discipline and execution to get it to where it needs to be!!!

Idk if I told you this, but a family member of mine has done some personal biz with Coach Mitch at his place over in Birmingham...Thru that relationship he's met and done biz with few of the players as well. Ike Taylor, Timmons, Farrior, Big Snack.

I've met coach Mitch myself several yrs ago. I won't claim to know him, but I've talked to him before, told him I'm a long time Steeler fan, etc. He's Rooney guy so he survived the transition from Cowher to Tomlin.

Now I'm speaking thru a 3rd party here so you have to take this for what it's worth. He said Tomlin's 1st couple of yrs he ran the toughest training camp the vets had ever been a part of...he was a no non-sense guy. I'm guessing because he was so young when he got the job he was trying to establish himself as an authority figure.

From what I understand, while he's kind of known as a "players coach", he's still somewhat distance from most of the players on a week to week basis. He does have his chosen guys that he's more chummy with, namely Ben, Heyward. I think he let it go too far, but he eventually reeled AB back in after the video BS. You mentioned Cowher and we know how tough he was. He said Cowher had his chosen few as well, but Ben wasn't one of them...Bettis, Farrior were more his guys.

That said, I agree with that he's been too loose on the showboating, etc.

I just don't think he's a great scheme coach. He was a coordinator maybe a yr or 2 at most. While I think Lebeau didn't have the horses to work with, he had a statistically decent DEF. I really think Butler is the DC because was "open" to MT's suggestions on scheme, etc which we know Lebeau was probably not. "STFU kid, I got this" lol.

Yeah, since the Jarvis Jones mistake, he has done a lot better with Colbert...they are still a pc or two away...he basically needs to stay out of the way of trying to run the DEF and let Butler do the job.

That's cool as hell ATL....
And you can see who they are chummy with from time to time.

I feel as though he tries to be the D coordinator at times more than he tries to be head coach. Which was another reason that Lebeau was all to happy to leave. Only thing now is, there are times this D with the back and forth with Butler and Tomlin, it has no identity.

With the AB thing, yes he finally got it under control, but damn he left that go on for far too long. I won't deny it was cool to watch from time to time, but the speech from Tomlin thing.....WOW. And if it had not of been for that incident, would it still be going on??? I honesly think that if not for the fact that Tomlin was made out to be an ass for what was said (I myself thought it was fine calling the Pats names...I do it all the time. LOL) But if not for that fact, does it stop???

Great post...

1st bold comment....that's the biggest change in this team from Cowher to Tomlin...the DEF has lost it's identity...period. They had a few moments...the Shazier hit vs CIN, the lick on Mat Moore by Timmons was a couple of them. The league has cut down on some of the physicality of the game, but this sitting back in zone shit (when you can't cover worth shit anyway) has nothing to do with the league...just fucked up scheme. Butler didn't cut his teeth on that...we know better.

2nd bold comment...I think it would still be going on. I honestly think trading AB would have shocked the team, and a lot of fans wouldn't have liked it, as much as I like AB, I would have been okay with it. But I understand the Rooney probably didn't want to take Ben's best weapon away at the end of his career and they did promise AB a new deal.

It's something that BB would have done in NE...no way they would have given him an extension.

Yea, watching our guys run a zone is like watching a dog try to hump a porcupine.
Teams used to fear this D, now more times than not, we get our asses tuned up!!!

I like AB, great guy and all. I can see not taking him away from Ben, and I believe Ben has and is still using what he said to make his stance known to all of them. I said to @FaCe-LeE-uS Ben has given us two titles, he has nothing to prove, these other guys need to grow up and prove their worth to him.

LOL!!! Love the dog/ porcupine analogy...sad but true. That really hurts us old school Steeler fans to watch that.

Ben...I think when he his best bud Heath retired, I'm sure that planted the seed...then watching AB's foolishness all season...he just spoke out.

I never really gave the Heath thing much thought, but that very much makes sense.....

One thing though, I thought there was a rule about players with the social media thing....
I could be wrong, some crap about they can't be on social media for so long after a game.
Which if it's the case, why didn't the league go after both Tomlin and AB???

Good point.

Idk what the social media rules for NFL players are but I'm pretty sure they have some communication restrictions of some type...remember when Troy got busting for using his cellphone to call his wife during a game?
