Looks like we picked up another JUCO. After our losses at CB from last year, it could not come at a better time. https://secure.scout.com/email/emai...?s=159&p=9&c=8&toinid=679&yr=2017

JUCO's and transferring Seniors has really changed the way you can recruit. I'd rather bring in Freshman who have the chance to really grow into something special but there is something to be said about bringing in guys who can contribute for a year or two.

As a guy who went the JUCO route I am all for it. For those old enough to remember, when Potomac State still had football they were a pretty good farm team for WVU.

Amen to that.

This guy has three years to play, we will develop him. These arguments about JUCO's vs Frosh is crazy to me....there are advantages for both. Smart staff balances the two and we seem to have a smart staff that can do that.

I think its a good way to go if you don't get the recruit you want..why burn a scholarship on a reach when you can fill a gap with an experienced player and wait until the following year to go get a better talent ..

It's especially important when you cannot field a full class because the AD fucks your football program by placing its HC on lame duck status for 2 straight years.

I told everyone what impact that stupid shit would have on recruiting. GR and others were either in denial... or simply ignorant.

No... thankfully... this coach has not been afraid to bring JUCO's on board to fill the voids.

Dana has dealt with two totally different situations. One he inherited from Billy... one Dana's AD created. Sucks to be Dana...

The excuses for Holgorsen never stop, what is it with the blind love for the guy from a FEW select "fans". Lyons did EXACTLY what ANY official in any organization would have done with a marginal employee........Amazing that the guys who make excuses for Holgorsen losing to Kansas in football pour piss on Huggins for losing in the sweet 16 to a one loss team.......unreal.

:rolleyes2:

Well, all is well now, he has his extension now and just had one of the best years in WVU football as far as wins so those top 25 recruiting classes should be rolling in now but, we are currently ranked 68th and getting our arses handed to us by programs like Kansas and Kentucky in the rankings so..

I wouldn't hold my breath.

Exactly! Like I said in December '15... Lyons fucked the program for 3 years. Anyone who understands recruiting knew me to be right on the money.

Stupid fucking president hired a guy completely ill-prepared. Nothing but a joke...

Since you want to rehash the debate on this thread, keep in mind that had your coach not lost to Kansas and Iowa State, the stupid president would have extended him and avoided the contract mess. There is more than one finger to point if you are here to bitch. I'd rather look forward to picking up a couple of grad transfers to help solidify depth. That rule does help teams like us who could use some top shelf players in the cupboard.

Meanwhile, we still have a good group of kids doing spring practice.

So the recruiting should be picking up now, what situation will Dana have to deal with now that the extension is in place and Stew is gone from this world?

He has to work his ass off convincing current Jr's in high school WVU is a good place to extend their future... despite the fact its athletic department is run by a stupid shit.

No easy task...

So... losing to KU and ISU in 2013 when the staff had lost something like 13 starters to injury to include 9 from the defense... is something the stupid ass president can't comprehend?

And, then we're looking at extending the HC during the '15 season... right? How many years removed is our stupid ass president being asked to evaluate when 13 starters had been loss to injury?

Lyons did not do what he was supposed to do as an AD of a major university. He was supposed to take the facts he had and make a decision on whether he retained or dismissed a coach based on a set of criteria. Instead, No Balls made untrue statements and sat on his hands unwilling, or incapable, of making a decision. All the while, coaches were bailing for either better pay or job security, since he was the one stating that a majority of the football programs across America were going to yearly contracts. We also discovered that WVU assistants were make less than many schools within the Big 12. You do not see this type of inherent stupidity come out of any other program. For a supposedly seasoned assistant AD, he messed up his first contract negotiations. If No Balls expectations were not being met based off of his review of Dana's body of work, then he should have fired him. No Balls has no obligation or loyalty to retain Dana's services. Instead, he creates a lame duck situation for a program that has had a problem recruiting since I can remember. If it takes our AD 2 years to make decisions, then it's time to dismantle the program. Has anybody seen what his plans are for next year? 5 yrs? I guess he will tell us of project delays at the Coliseum and at Mylan Puskar. EEG should cut his AD salary down to a project manager salary since everything is already laid out for him by you know who (all hail). How's that, Rusher, for a hometown discount?

Huggins did not play, but for a future HOF HC with over 800 career wins, I expect that his recruit ability would be better than what he has shown since he came to WVU. In another thread, I mentioned that 2017 was the year that he has the opportunity to step down while remaining part of the program at WVU until he decides to retire. I already said that I would give him 2 seasons to get to the Elite 8. It amazes me that he did not know the working of the 1-3-1. I shouldn't be surprised that you hang your hat on a 1 loss Gonzaga team who would not have the same record should they play in any of the Power 5 conference. WVU should have won and I'm not so sure anybody would classify it as a major upset. It would be an upset only because a #4 beat a #1 seed. You and your buddy do not apply the same standards for Huggy as you place on Dana. You're ok loosing to Temple and the SFAs of the world. Don't forget, Huggy drinks just like Dana.

Not sure where anybody but the anti-Dana guys say that Dana would be a consistent top 25 recruiter. I'm not sure if any coach at WVU, but I will defer to BB to research those numbers. I could be wrong.

WVU HAD a consistent top 25 recruiter at football coach a few years ago.......so you would give Huggins two years to get to the elite eight or can him, but you wanted to extend Holgorsen for making it to the Yankee Bowl............Holgorsen was under a contract from Luck that would have cost $$millions to can after the 2015, he was offered an extension and declined it, both parties decided to table talks until later, WVU had a successful season and Holgorsen was extended, Lyons did his job, and did it well.

While I agree Lyons made a mess of things, and has messed up the recruiting, I will give him the same slack I afforded Dana. Keep in mind this is his first time being AD. He has the right to learn the same as Dana did,

Maybe the stupid president should not have hired him....maybe he will learn from this and become one of the greatest AD's we have seen.

It is all easy from the outside.

Time will tell.

Do you consider WVU a big time program? Do you acknowledge that WVU is making over $40 million from conference revenue alone? Do you acknowledge that for the '14 year WVU made a profit of $3 million dollars when its conference revenues were $23 million?

What was the cost of firing Dana and his assistants in '15?

What impact has Dana's hot seat status made in recruiting? What happens when you field a team less talented than your rivals? What impact in success on the field make in putting fans in the stadiums? How does success impact contributions to the MAC? Impact season ticket sales?

Lyons has proven to everyone he is in over his head. He might be good at compliance, but he ain't any good at being the CEO of a corporation worth $100's of millions of dollars.

WVU HAD a consistent top 25 recruiter at football coach a few years ago.

I have proved this theory wrong on this board and CBS....he had highly rated classes but if I remember correctly over half of those players never stepped foot on campus or the field for WVU. So in reality those classes were ranked a hell of a lot lower than on signing day. Lets not forget that the man did not fill his classes which in turn would have screwed him in the long run and did end up screwing DH in long run. Finea(sp) sightings were all over Utah :suds:
