If the state of north carolina were to land a Major League Baseball Team who could be a top city for a MLB relocated or expansion franchise? The Research Triangle area like Raleigh/Durham or Chapel Hill? Charlotte? Charlotte I understand has a triple AAA baseball club.

Not to be a butthead but if you only "understand" that Charlotte has a AAA team, not sure what other information you lack before we endeavor to explore your premise. Or am I not reading the punctuation correctly?

Durham Bulls are also a AAA team

I would think Charlotte would be more likely- but that's just me spitballin'. Not my area of expertise.

Since Atlanta Georgia cant seem to produce a solid fan base that shows up, I think the MLB is done with the South region of the United States.

Durham Bulls are also a AAA team

Both cities just built new ballparks so anything resembling big-league stadia would be a tough sell.

I think the discussion of a franchise shift might be useful again, though it's been covered a few times.
Not sure what the future holds for the A's and the Rays, but Montreal probably is first in line if MLB shifts. Oklahoma City might be an outside shot. Portland? Probably not. Otherwise, I think it's up to Tampa to build a ballpark

Neither.

Baltimore/Washington and Atlanta would freak out if there was a chance of Virginia or a Carolina getting a team.

I stand corrected on Durham. The ballpark was reconfigured when the team went AAA, but it's not too-too new.

Yes.... because Seattle packs Safeco on a nightly basis.

Don't let attendance confuse you about the health of MLB. It's a component and one that fans easily recognize, but it isn't the end-all, be-all like it was in the days before global connections.

Charlotte getting a MLB team would make sense.

New teams can stay out of Braves country.

Go to Omaha, Go back to Montreal, put a team in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but stay the hell out of the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi.

When the Expos were looking to relocate, Puerto Rico, Norfolk, and DC were the areas being talked about.

Looking at market size in the NC/VA are Charlotte and Va Bch are the largest cities.

With the way MLB is right now, I would say that Puerto Rico or Montreal are the most likely areas for expansion or relocation.

I am not certain Puerto Rico has the economy to support MLB without major support.

I think you are probably safe with Mississippi.

I've been all over the state, but I'd love to make my way to a AA Braves games out yonder.

And as for Tennessee, I guess they can have Memphis since it's Cardinals country, but stay out of Nashville and Knoxville.

I remember when I was a kid and the Expos would play a a few games a year in San Juan. Seemed like Javy Lopez would always have the game of his life every time the Braves played down there.

The Expos played 9 or 18 games a season in Puerto Rico their last few years. Granted it was Selig, but he did talk about wanting to put a team there. That is what I was basing my opinion off of, but having personally traveled to a number of the islands in the Caribbean I agree with you finances would be an issue.
