While i'm certainly for BPA excpet we fans can only go by Need. Looking at this mock i'm totally fine with the first 4 picks. the only small comment i have is in lieu of Kupp, is there an EDGE guy still worth this spot?

If the 5th pick (Johnson) was a CB as opposed to DB, i could buy it. But otherwise using this pick on a DB doesn't make sense? Isn't Ward a "DB" and as is, we don't know where he's going?

Ok with Pumphrey granted don't know how well he catches out of the backfield? But otherwise he is a GOOD runner despite his size.

Of the last 4 picks, i would think we signed enough FA WR's plus added Kupp? So instead of two more WR's, i'd draft another QB and an OT prospect. If not OT, an OG/C prospect.

In defense of the Mckenzie pick he's a small guy that has elite kick returning ability which could be why they would bring him in as a 7th rounder.

I'm not following because this was your post:

I could only see drafting a DB with the first pick if this player was truly a standout compared to the rest of the 1st round picks and would be a true shutdown corner. If not, I would address a bigger need like Linebacker or a pass rusher.

Not making a big deal out of this, just saying 'not following' you.

I was commenting on that particular mock draft showing us taking a DB. but based on your above post, thought you were commenting on our #2. Anyway, no big deal.

I was taking about taking a DB with the #2 pick in the draft. I didn't see the mock draft but I don't see taking a DB with our first pick. I would be really surprised if the 49ers did. Of course, if you looked at 20 mock drafts you would see about 15 different players taken, lol

Yeah, no doubt we REALLY could go a number of ways at #2? For me, i wouldn't be surprised if we took a DB at #2 (Hooker, Adams, or Lattimore). I'm for BPA and i could easily see one of these guys as it.

Given a choice, i wouldn't add to our secondary with our first pick (nor second or third or fourth), but we're hard luck in the year we have #2.

Yeah, and that was the guy who most thought at one point would be #2 to SF. Guess he's falling because of those issues. The more I read about Thomas, the more I like.

...and I'll just add that there are a couple of safeties highly ranked. Given how SF is modelling itself after Seattles defense, and we all saw how Earl Thomas is clearly that secondaries most important player, I wouldn't be opposed to grabbing one of them either.

Based on what i've been seeing, i could believe Marshon Lattimore is close in value to Hooker and Adams. So if these guys pan out our BPA's, i'd take the CB. A top CB is harder to obtain.

That's very true.
With out going into the whole "lock down "CB debate, The Niners have had a real need for a true#1 CB for years.
Of course having a pass rush helps make all DB's better

No doubt, so it is unfortunate these DB's are in play at #2, as opposed to a QB or EDGE.

Don't know how close this is to 'equal' draft points, but i would do this trade down anyway. There will still be a solid player at #6 OVERALL, and i recall reading several times this draft is solid thru Round 2. So we would add ANOTHER quality prospect at the high end of Round 2.

But as i have been contending all along, why would the Jets do this? Not being negative about a trade down, but just can't see why another team wants to trade up? None of the QB's are talked about as being even close to worth #2?!
