I would be on this trade if Dallas took Shore, King or both. Keep AA and let one of the other two (if not both) go in a trade.

I don't think it's realistic to think Vegas will take bad contracts off of our hands. At least if Bishop goes, it saves a guy like Lewis.

Agreed. Vegas may take-on a bad contract, but if they do, it will be via trade so they get something else out of it (top pick, prospect). McPhee won't waste an Expansion Draft pick on a bad contract. They may gamble a bit in the Expansion Draft (no Vegas pun intended), but not on a player/contract they don't think they can easily flip by the next trade deadline.

Couple more thoughts on Bishop trade: If Bishop doesn't go Vegas, the Kings could trade him to a team around the Entry Level Draft and get something conditionally if he signs. Or, work an outright a sign-and-trade for him. Lastly, at least Lombardi totally c***-blocked St. Louis and Calgary from acquiring Bishop.

I agree with you guys, I just don't think that was the initial play. Would be great if it was though.

I think this is Dumbo's last hurrah with this group of players so he is going all in. I think we will see some more help coming in but nothing huge - he is going all in on goaltending and defense yet again to make a Cup run.

Both Bishop and Quick are stellar goalies, I read something like Bishop has a .980% from anything from outside of the circles. Combine that with the Kings defense and good luck scoring so I am thinking they are going down the 2-1 wins route.

Your last sentence is what one of my initial thoughts were. Calgary is playing well right now, but their goaltending could fall apart at any moment. Dumbo snagged the best goalie available this Trade Deadline and kept him away from a team they are directly chasing.

Bishop has a limited NTC where he can submit a list of 8 teams he will not accept a trade to. Now with NMCs and NTCs, once a trade has been completed the acquiring team can choose to honor or not honor it. Cap Friendly is showing he still has one, but that has neither been confirmed nor denied, they just transferred his contract information to LA's list. If it is active, it restricts the trading partners to 23 (including Vegas) but that's not a huge deal.

I personally don't see Bishop staying here past July 1 but I could see a sign a trade. Laguna D mentioned tagging, that's not a problem with sign and trades because the player has already agreed to the team he will be going to (especially in this case with his LNTC) so his dollars will not be on the Kings' books. Otherwise no GM in their right mind will be signing a monster contract (like Bishop, who's initial request was 7 years/$49 million last summer going into his free agency year during extension talks) and "hope" to find a trading partner, especially a GM like Dumbo who has his team pressed up against the cap. You will be out of a job real quick as a GM.

Teams that need goaltending are Calgary, Dallas, Philadelphia, Buffalo and St. Louis. Dumbo has a lot of options and will get a good return on this guy.

Off topic a little bit, but what are the thoughts on Gaborik since he was a healthy scratch against Anaheim on Saturday? I feel like you can't really single him out since everyone is struggling (*Kopitar*), but I guess it makes sense. He hadn't had a point in 9 games.

He was a healthy scratch earlier in the year. Sutter was quite blunt about the reason for it. He wasn't producing. It would be really great if he'd start scoring a few goals. Somebody needs to.

Agree, no surprise really.

I think this goes back to last season when Gaborik missed 28 games in Jan/Feb and didn't come back until Game 2 of the WCSFs, Sutter saying "I won't put a guy coming off injury into the playoffs because he won't be productive" or something along those lines. It was a bummer too, I remember him just starting to heat up right before that injury and only put up an assist in 4 games against the Sharks.

Gaborik has been in the dog house for Sutter since about a month after he came back. Pretty strong message when you bench a T6 sniper for Jordan Nolan and no surprise he is being shopped.

I think Gaborik will be pretty hard to trade considering his recent production and contract.

Yup, he is pretty much in Browndoggle territory.

I wanted him to stay after he arrived in 2014 but was surprised Dumbo gave him a 7 year deal at his age and his history of injuries. Wasn't a fan of the deal then, not a fan of it now but he had to get him at a cap number that was affordable.

Not one of Dumbo's better deals although it did pay off in the Cup, Gaborik was instrumental that PO season. I am pretty sure he led all NHL players with something like 14-16 goals and I remember many of them being clutch, including tying up a game against Anaheim with under :10 left and then winning it in OT.

If they waive Gaborik (this season or next), it only saves $1M in cap space. Highly doubtful he would ever be claimed. We all know Kings would have to pay with a pick, prospect, and/or salary retention for anyone to take Gaborik.

Arizona seems to do a lot of those type of deals. Who cares if they are "in-division" rivals. Get that deal done!!!

I've heard that could swap him for Iginla. Col is cleaning house and will need to get to the floor. This is a way to do that without overpaying a mid level guy.

There were 6 guys that I thought were serious candidates for the Conn Smythe trophy in 2014. Gaborik was definitely one of them. The others were Quick, Doughty, Kopitar, Carter, and Williams. You could make a strong case for all 6.

The 2014 team was special for certain, so different from the 2012 Cup winning team. The 2012 team was a machine, methodically shutting down teams and very consistent while the 2014 team was more loose and played some wild games to win it all.

I don't believe any team had a tougher path to the cup than the '14 team. Those first 3 round were brutal.

Since Vegas is allowed to trade promises, the Kings could offer a packaged deal of picks and maybe one prospect and Bishop to take one or both, Brown and Gabbo.

I agree, the Kings faced competition I have not seen in some time. SJ had them on the ropes, which getting out of that round was nothing short of an accomplishment let alone going on to win a second Cup. The WCFs against Chicago was and remains in my top 3 playoff series ever.

Of course seeing Anaheim and "The Legend" get torched was gravy after SJ.

Would be beneficial to LA to make a deal, I'm sure something can be worked out. If they are going to take Brown or Gaborik however, I would assume a 1st round pick would need to be involved - those contracts are both albatrosses.

This year the draft is predicted to be pretty weak, may be a good year to move that pick so that you can keep your team intact. On the other hand, the Kings have dished out so many high picks the last 5 years they need to replenish the farm; they have no NHL caliber forward prospects now with Kempe up in LA.

Defensively they are fine but with the NHL team on the low end of older they really need to start planning for the not too distant future.

Actually the forwards are not that bad in the AHL, Brodzinski amongst some of the others
