Probably not news but this just confirms, what we have all thought, that management also feels #12 does not belong here anymore

Gotta say, despite the extra year and $1M cap hit per, I'd keep Brown for the duration over Gaborik. Either player would have to be dealt to a rebuilding team that projects plenty of cap space for the next 4 yrs.

I think with Gaborik it's more his injury issues, when he is healthy he can play but the guy is made of glass.

I also think his foot injury is probably in his head, he isn't playing as well as he has before after coming back from injury - he looks a little timid. Maybe he is still experiencing some pain?

Then you add in everyone not named Carter (and even he has cooled off a bit) in the T6 is not producing which affects Gaborik's game too obviously, and it's a combination of things of why he isn't producing but overall I think they are tired of paying a guy who isn't in the line up like 50% of the year. At least Greene doesn't make a lot of money but Gaborik does.

I never wanted him to get that 7 year deal at his age but Dumbo had to to get a cap number he is comfortable with, now they have to deal with the consequences of that. It's not a Brown contract but it isn't that far behind.

Minnesota got jobbed to get Hanzal. I was high on him but they paid up for him. I was high on Hanzal to come in and be a 3C but I am glad LA didn't cave and sell the farm for him.

Went pretty cheap.

If that is what the best defender available during the deadline is going for then hopefully the Kings should be able to get some help as well although I think they should focus on looking for help up front. Dumbo said he isn't going to do that though because the top guns are underperforming, in essence saying if they get it in gear it's like getting 4 new offensive players (and he's right - Kopitar, Gaborik, Toffoli all need to pick it up. Dead horse) so I would assume now that he landed Bishop the next step is defensive depth.

Cannot stress how much you need depth on the blue line to win a Cup. The Hawks were an anomaly when they worked their T4 to death but overall you need at least 7 to 8 solid defenders. The Kings also got lucky in 2012 when no one - Doughty, Scuderi, Greene, Mitchell, Voynov or Martinez - got injured but we saw last season having just Martinez out really hurt the back end, especially when guys like Voynov and Mitchell were replaced with guys like McNabb.

This move for Shattenkirk reinforces that, the Caps are already stacked on defense and have a great PP but he just adds to the depth and arsenal.

I still hope they never sniff a Cup.

Kings/Avs working on Iginla per Twitter. Looks like it's heating up.

Vanek (43 points, 15 goals) traded to Florida for Dylan McIllrath and a 3rd round pick, can't imagine it'll cost a heck of a lot to get Iginla who has only 18 points this season.

I hope this happens. He may be just what the Kings need for a playoff push and playoff run.

Kind of a three way deal with Kings, Avs and Habs.

So king for iginla and several conditional picks in the mix.

I'll take Iginla in the lineup over King any day of the week. He really soured on me the last few years, always had that extra gear but unwilling to take the next step. Frustrating player.

Now watch, he will go put up 25 goals in Montreal.

If he doesn't step up his game, Montreal won't re-sign him and he'll probably have to sign with a team like Phoenix or Colorado.

That's pretty funny. Sometimes when everything goes so wrong, a switch just flips and it all goes the other way. Here's hoping.
