I'm on board with this as well.

I've got my problems with Odor, but this looks like a good deal for everyone....at least today.

I missed the first part of the interview, so I don't know if this is what he thinks would work, or if it's a rumor around the water cooler, or what. But he did make reference that this is a similar deal to what Jason Kipnis got
Seems like I read something yesterday about that was what was rumored because it matched up well with Kipnis' deal. Then it was mentioned that since that was an older deal and Odor was younger that it would probably take more. I also read that Odor's dad called him about the rumor that Rougie and the Rangers were trying to work out an extension and Odor said that was the first he had heard anything.

Indeed, Texas appears to be making a significant push to get something done. The club is “believed to have offered something in the range of” the extension reached betweenJason Kipnis and the Indians at the outset of the 2014 season. That six-year deal promised Kipnis $52.5MM and came with a single club option. At the time, the Cleveland second baseman was also a 2+ service class player who had not reached Super Two eligibility, putting him in the same position as Odor. (Interestingly, as Heyman notes, both are also represented by the large Beverly Hills Sports Council agency.)

Of course, that deal is now a few years old. And one could argue that Odor ought to earn more, based largely upon his age. Kipnis was entering his age-27 season at the time of his deal, while Odor only just turned 23. On the other hand, Kipnis was coming off of a monster season — his second straight as a 3+ WAR regular — while Odor has a somewhat less-established track record. While he drove 33 long balls last year, Odor also failed even to crack the .300 OBP barrier and drew poor metrics for his glovework.

It’s an interesting standoff, all things considered. Odor’s early lock on a regular job and sizable home run tallies give him significant arbitration earning power, while his young age holds the promise of free-agent riches to come. Those factors surely have driven the price northward on a deal, despite the fact that Odor has yet to put up a complete season approaching the All-Star campaign of Kipnis in 2013. That the Rangers are still pushing to get something done indicates that the team feels there’s still growth left in his game, though undoubtedly there are limits to what the team will spend.

Well, if he can't, this is a bad deal.....Maybe worse than that.
If he does not notably improve his defense then it won't be much of a deal. Also there is no guarantee he hits 30 hr again. IF he does both, great for us. Time will tell.

His D is somewhat confusing to me in that he covers ground very well, as he does a good job with his arm. But he actually made 5 more errors last year than the year before when he lead the league in errors, which isn't a good barometer for futures IMO.

A lot have fallen in love with 88 RBI and 30 HR. And there's a lot to love about this. But at the same time, his plate discipline is one of the worst in the history of the game. Says a lot doesn't it?

Ya know....I believe IF we'd won the WS we should have won, a lot of our angst about who signs/for what, should he be the DH/play the field, what do we do with Profar long term, etc would be nothing but side-notes to all of us.

Rangers' Jurickson Profar: Will play outfield in WBC
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Netherlands manager Hensley Meulens said Profarwill work as an outfielder in the World Baseball Classic, Peter Gammons of Gammons Daily reports.

Gammons also confirms previous reports that Profar will start in the Rangers outfield against right-handed pitching. Working in left field during the WBC should help him hone a position he fleetingly has played before. With his new clear-cut opportunity, Profar, named the No. 1 prospect in baseball for the 2013 season, is worth a dice roll in deep fantasy leagues as a post-hype sleeper entering his age-24 season.

Looks like Josh might need another surgery on his knee. He needs to sit on IR all year and then retire.

Rangers' Josh Hamilton could be headed for another knee surgery
Hamilton's chances of making the Rangers are worsening

Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton hasn’t played in the majors since 2015. Last season, he appeared in just one minor-league game before bowing out due to knee woes.

Unfortunately for Hamilton, it appears he won’t even make it that far this season. That’s because Hamilton, who hasn’t been able to put weight on his left knee, could be heading for another operation according to Gerry Fraleyof the Dallas Morning News:

Rangers assistant general manager Mike Daly said there is “a good possibility” that Hamilton will undergo an arthroscopic surgery as part of the procedure.

Fraley notes that Hamilton is making his second trip in a week to Dr. Walt Lowe -- the same doctor who operated on Hamilton’s ACL in June. The first trip saw Hamilton receive a PRP injection in his other knee.

Hamilton is in camp on a minor-league deal, and it seems increasingly unlikely that he’ll make the Opening Day roster. A return to glory for Hamilton was always a long shot, of course -- he posted a 94 OPS+ the last time he saw extended big-league action -- but that doesn’t make this news any less frustrating for the 2010 American League MVP.

Josh surgery IMO is pretty minor surgery IMO. Laser based shaving as compared to 20 years ago. What remains in his knee and the potential functionality may be a huge question mark I wish we had more info on. From a lay man standpoint he sure seems to do very little to aggravate so this may not bode well due to what remains

Sure seems like the sportswriters are impressed with Rua, DDJ and Mike H the rule 5 pickup. A lot of spring remains but opening day is not much more than a month away.

The battle for Left field and #5SP is going to be interesting. Still think Choo is the main DH
