Walters :That's bullcrap
Within 3 years
I predict More players will sit out bowl games not just 1st rounders but lower rounders like 3rd as well
Think
About about it, guys that grows up poor and have an opportunity to be drafted in the 3rd and sign a $MM contract vs ACL and probably not drafted
Choice for me is simple

I am with DC reaching for weak areas of the draft to fill needs ultimately leads to talent depletion due to bad drafts. Drafting is really for needs 2-3yrs down the road.

I look at our team and do not see any position that is truly set.

CB - we have 3 good ones but Roby took a step back and Talib is passing 30 and near end of his deal. We see how important this has been and I wouldn't hesitate to take a cb in any rd.

LB - our pass rush is elite, but Ware is at end, may not be back and honestly Ray isn't an elite pass rusher ... more of an effort sack artist. A young book end elite pass rusher either 3-4 end or lb (possibly move Ray inside)... regardless investing in pass rushers is always a good idea and there are some available in RD 1.

WR - the closest to set, probably rd 1 too high, but sanders could move to slot and another wr could help our young qbs. Our depth isn't great but I like Taylor.

QB - honestly a small minority here but I wouldn't freak over taking one. Too important and lynch (I'm a huge fan) didn't play well and the QBs available at our pick would have honestly rated ahead of lynch last year. Would take some balls and lynch really needs more time development and evaluation and Siemian isn't an awful starter for someone so young ... but if Elway saw someone he had to have I probably would accept it.

Otherwise every position really needs help and it will be far more important long term that we get an impact player at our pick than just a certain position. I mean I could really do without any more George Fosters/Marcus Nash's on the team.

How you look at our pass rush or cb as not "set" but wr is closest is stunning.

How he didn't even mention O line had me convinced " this guy's on top of it "

I would be careful though to say just because a position is weak doesn't mean there still isn't talent at those positions. Such as OL there are still some talented players in this draft. For me I wouldn't be disappointed if we took Bolles, Ramczyk, or Robinson in the 1st. All 3 have shown 1st round potential. Heck even Forrest Lamp I could really get behind. One of my favorite players in the entire draft.

Now yes I do have other players rated higher than those players for us in the 1st round and will be a bit disappointed if we take one of them over a player higher on the board. At the same time it is looking like this draft could set up where teams push some of the OL players down the list and when we pick at 20 we have our pick of who we want.

My theory would be if you need to fill a need on the team and that position is weak in the draft - go for the best - and in the deeper positions use your 2nd, 3rd and 4th round guys for the deeper positions.

This Bronco team- however - has the all around talent to take the best player available without looking at depth of position on the roster. I suspect - even though also thin - the Broncos will look for FA guys to supplement the Oline (and draft a guy or two - the more you pick the more likely you hit on some guys).

I fully agree. I don't think this is going to hurt their value at all. No way McCaffrey falls all the way to our pick in the 2nd round just because of that. Especially when he has Fournette in the top 10, and he did the same thing.

Forrest Lamp has been gaining a lot of steam recently and is expected to light it up at the combine. If he does and plays well at the Senior Bowl, he could easily be gone by 20.

I think OLinemen have a tendency to shoot up the draft boards as the draft gets closer. Especially, this year, where you saw Dallas have a lot of success. They started building this team in the trenches a few years ago and made some unpopular picks that have turned out to be genius in Martin and Frederick. This is a copycat league and people have now taken notice to the way they put that line together, so I can see that pushing some big uglies up the board come April.

Last 5yrs of 2nd half tackles. Not great ... Great LT prospects don't typically go where we draft... I'm totally fine with an elite og prospect, but talking up these ots who project at best to average RT (not critical spot... we won one with Harry Swayne!) only isn't conducive to a strong talent base and winning org

Those ol didn't shoot up draft boards. They took a top 10 lt and took elite interior ol in first rd and murder suspect udfa. Dan Feeney should be the target not some of these reach OTs

I guess it depends on your view of the player. To me especially Ryan Ramczyk and Cam Robinson are more than worth the 20th overall pick. Nick and I have been talking to some different OL specialty people and they love these 2 kids. They think they could be special talents at the NFL level. Cam has dropped for 2 reasons. Consistency and off the field issues. When he is on his game he is a top-5 player in this draft easily. He has some lapses though that has some teams nervous. I like the chances of our coaching staff now more than the last couple to get this guy playing at a high level. His interviews will decide though if he is a top-15 pick or a 2nd round pick.

Ryan Ramczyk again known as a great technician that showed improved skills as the year went along. He is a prototypical LT that has enough power to hold up on the right side as well. He has 2 big knocks against him. The first is hip surgery that has him sidelined for a couple of months here. I'm told it wasn't as bad as thought so teams won't be as scared off by that. The other is that he only has 1 year of starting experience at division I football. At pick 20 though every single player is going to have a couple of knocks that have taken them down that far.

So if we take either of those 2 guys I am more than happy with the decision.

I agree. Thanks for the legwork. I had a feeling you were not going to find a starting LT and no way I draft a RT at #20. Nate Solder may be the best of the bunch from 6 years ago .

If there is a David Decastro, whom Denver had as their pick that year before Pitts traded up, I would be happy with a stud G or C. Alex Mack as done wonders in ATL and who knows how Paradis will respond to two hip procedures.

The jury is still out on our 2016 pick at #20 and no way Denver can afford to bomb two years in a row.

Free agency is one of the great re-enforcing factors for the draft the best available player philosophy. Because free agency exists - you have the opportunity to rebalance the talent on your team - with proven - if not spectacular players - cost efficiently (assuming you stay away from the premium market). Quarterback if generally the only position that should drive decision making in the draft.

I think if this were going to be the case, you'd see much more of it by now. With the limited contracts for rookies, I don't think the risk is as high as it was before. Plus, you'd have seen it right after a number of major injuries; a Willis McGahee comes to mind.

You say that, and we all think that, but it's like Disneyworld... You make all these great plans and which ride you'll hit in what order, and once you walk through those gates... All bets are off. :)
