Featherweight Division

Yair Rodriguez absolutely dominated BJ Penn. Yair has the confidence of a Champion. He also has the hardest head kicks that I have seen in the division. He is a dynamic striker with good reach. I've been thinking that Holloway is destined to be the Champ but I'm not sure about that now after seeing Yair.

Aldo fought a good fight against Edgar so he's still in the mix.

It will be interesting to see which one of these guys rises to the top of the Featherweight Division.

As far as I'm concerned, McGregor is at the top of the division (and Lightweight). The UFC is embarrassing itself with all these interim belt nonsense and pseudo-top contender fights. There should never be an interim belt unless the champ is out for a significant time (like a year) due to injury. If they can't get their champs to fight, have the balls to actually strip them of the title (and not do what they are doing to McGregor, just meekly pretending he dropped it and everything is cool).

McGregor is a complete nonfactor in the featherweight division now. The UFC allowed him to delegitimize the divisional belt for awhile when he had multiple fights out of the weight class. He never defended the title after beating Aldo on 12/15. Real champions defend their belts. They stripped McGregor of his title which was the right move. Until he fights in that division again he will remain a nonfactor. After McGregor & Holloway fight there will be a champion in the division. The UFC needs to expect their champ to be active in defending the title.

I don't get so caught up in his hype. McGregor proved he could get a title. He has never proven he can defend a title. Yair is just as entertaining of a fighter as McGregor in the octagon. Also, Holloway proved that he can hang in there with McGregor. Remember McGregor was the one that went for a takedown even before Holloway hurt McGregor's knee on the ground.

A real champ would be taking on the challengers. McGregor is much more interested in self promotion. To his credit though he's fighting guys that are his size now. Let's see if he is willing to fight Khabib or Ferguson that will show he is the real LW champion. If he ducks those guys then he isn't a real LW champ either.

Oh stfu. McGregor is a legit champ and a great fighter. You don't have to like his trash talk or his self promotion but this whole post is just a bunch of nonsense. McGregor did everything he said he was going to do because he's good. That makes him a REAL champion. Deal with it. It's on UFC, not McGregor, to make sure their divisions have title fights. So either strip guys that don't fight or PAY their damn fighters. And its the latter issue is why you see such inactivity. UFC needs to pony up. They've gone on far too long paying their fighters peanuts

Every time its "McGregor is a fraud" or something like that and then McGregor wins, almost always impressively. I didn't like the way he held up the Featherweight title with the Diaz stuff, but that's more on UFC chasing dollars than anything else. Even with McGregor playing a role it, I wouldn't let that stop me from saying he's one of the best fighters going right now

Too many people have it out for McGregor and rightfully so because of his demeanor. It only fuels his fire. I don't hate the man, but I understand why others do. But when it comes to bashing him by saying people are going to walk all over him in his next fight, then I'll be here to call bullshit every time.

McGregor has proven me wrong with his impressive KOs. I respect his ability in the octagon. This post is not about how other fighters in the FW division are better than him. My main point here is if a guy doesn't fight in a division how can he continue to be considered the champion of that division? McGregor may never cut that weight again in his career. Should that mean that there should never be a FW title holder? McGregor is old news in the FW division.

Because he's the champion. He won the belt. No one has beaten him for it. Until he officially says he's not competing in that division, he should be considered top dog. That's my point. He's the champ till he says he's not. If he goes more than a year with him and UFC can't agree to a FW fight, they should grow a pair and strip him of the title. But they didn't do that. They quietly claimed McGregor vacated the title, which he disputes. They handed the title to Aldo without a fight. Then made up some interim bullshit for Holloway/Pettis but Pettis missed weight so it was only Holloway going for it. He won...and turned down a fight with Aldo. That's a fucking mess. Three guys with claims to the title because the UFC has no balls and can't get its shit together.
