Now how is that even possible?

"Come to Arizona State. The academic standards aren't bad, and look at all the trim galavanting around campus."

Seriously, how has nobody been able to make ASU into a national power yet?

Poor coaching hires and lack of consistent momentum mainly, plus the primary recruiting territory is LA where USC and UCLA normally get first pick. The transplant nature of Phoenix also means a lot of the top players don't have deep roots in AZ and are more prone to going elsewhere. It's still a bit baffling. The right coach could turn it into a monster though.

Shit, they should just hire Briles in football and Pitino for basketball and they are golden.

I honestly have no idea why a recruit would choose UCLA over ASU. No chance in hell I would. Maybe USC, with their history, but even then I'm personally going ASU. Beautiful campus, beautiful scenery, beautiful weather, and I'm a big fan of the school colors.

If/when Graham gets fired, I expect they'll open up the wallet for football. Revamped stadium, marginal improvement- They need the right coach. I doubt it's Briles though. I also doubt little Pitino would leave MN for ASU. He's got a pretty good thing going there. No competing with an in state basketball power.

I tend to agree, but I'm biased. It's had the "sleeping giant" tag forever for a reason though. Just need the right hire.

Wrong Pitino. The one who hired "escorts" for his players was the one I was thinking of. At least now he wouldn't have to pay the entertainment.

Oh, Papa Pitino. I mean if he's available maybe. He's pretty old though too.

He's a spry 175 years old. I don't know though, is 175 old in vampire years?

It's a tie between Charlie Strong and John Blake.

How long is long enough? He started in 1989. And he's still there. They were the worst program in college football for decades before he got there.

K state has as close to zero talent as any program. Even after all of the winning with Snyder players don't want to go to K St. Beamer was in an area that was easier to recruit.

They've both been around about the same time generally, and both programs are where they are now because of them. But, Beamer built more than good teams, I believe their culture will last. As we've already seen with Snyder, when he was gone it was over. And when he's gone again, it'll be over again because all he did was build good football teams, not a culture.

Feels to me like Beamer took VT a step further. Beamer took success and built off it, and Snyder kind of just kept building good football teams. And I think VT was/is much closer to being the kind of team/program that could win a national championship.

There isn't another coach in the history of college football that could do what Snyder did in Manhattan, Ks.

I'd have to say Snyder.

Still can't believe how KSU came unhinged in the 98 Big 12 title game though, I have no doubt that they would have beaten Tennessee in the BCS title game if that did not happen.

Snyder is one of the best college football coaches around

It is just hard to believe what he has done at Kansas State, he's come so close to making the championship game also

Next year is probably his last remote change to win it all

I think that time has passed. But the fact that there ever was a time when Kansas State could have won a national championship shows what an unbelievable job Snyder has done.
