Certainly different than it has been.
Had a big weekend of visitors this past weekend, over 20, some commits and prospects.

We were ranked 49th in Coach Deadsall's last year.
Don't know how it will turn out but probably a top 25 class.

Add Tyran Hunt OT and SDE commit to tonight as well at 6' 7".
We are going to need a taller QB, O-Line in this class so far 6' 7" OT, 6' 2" C and 6' 5" OT.
Commit Kasim Hill is 6' 3", that should about do it.

Pretty good chance we could end up Top 20 and maybe 4th in the BIG.
Durkin and staff has sure changed the excitement surrounding recruiting.

Looks like 27 commits for 2017, dang.
Two are JUCO's and have signed their LOIs this week and will be EE's.
Seven total EE's are the estimate.
About 2018 it will be a different team for sure with three years of Durkin and staff.
2017 the schedule is tough and probably not enough time for our guys. We open with Texas away, not the weak non conference we had in 2016. Grin

Four Star Markquese Bell commit yesterday. UMD fans not used to this kind of recruiting season.
Some think the Gaddy's could flip or have academic issues.
Still fun to watch.

Lost one in Dazz Newsome. It barely moved us in the ratings.
A couple possible guys out there.
A couple seem to be us, Penn State and maybe Michigan State.
Just a couple weeks left until signing day.

He is doing a good job so far. He has a big hole to dig out of.

You're right about that hole.
Good news so far, looks like he and staff are using a backhoe and not a hand shovel.
Wednesday can't get here quick enough.
Might loose a couple and hope for an add or two.

Is your Sportster a 72? Mine's a 2005.

My Sportster is a 2013, model 72. It was first built in 2012 and discontinued this year. The idea was to make it look a bit like 60s-70s era bike.

Mine has the big tank. The tear drop tank has the traditional looks. Practical me didn't want to fill up more often.
First one I looked at when I was young was a new 1969 or 70, can't remember. I just couldn't come up with the money. Because of my age the insurance was going to me more than the bike over a three year loan.

You wouldn't like my bike, it has the peanut tank and only holds 2.2 gallons of gas. I was okay with that. I am an old fart that rides mostly around St. Mary's County with some other friends. I never rode more than about 80 miles without getting off to stretch even when I was young and coming home from VA Beach.

Old guy here too. I reach my get off and stretch limit about the same time. I probably from an appearance standpoint would have liked the smaller tank if I had it to do over.
I'm up in the Layhill/Olney/Glenmont area north or Wheaton and head out to WV and just into PA about the same distance.

So this old guy and you have this swapped. I used to live in Calaway and Valley Lee.

Hey great day to be a Terp Fan.
Great signing day. Sitting 18th now. The system is hard to compare backwards, for more that say 5 years or so. It's changed a bunch. The average player rating is the highest ever for us, probably comparable.

The 247 list is up to date as of a few minutes ago. The player positions are not very accurate.

The one guy that hasn't signed a LOI might have to go JUCO or Prep. Although there is an Academic Red Shirt. Seems we may have had one of those last year.

Many will not play the positions listed or even on the side of the ball listed.

9 Four Stars, almost as many as the previous regime's total.

Still 2017 schedule looks tough. Ranked 2nd toughest. Just he opposite last year.
Another good recruiting year and look out 2018.

Yeah it seems we swamped positions.

So I am a bit of an odd ball (some might say a lot of an odd ball.) I was born in PA, moved to the DC area when my Dad went to work for GPO. As a very young guy I watched all pro sports. Dad took me to a MD game once and some sophomore from Syracuse named Floyd Little ran all over the Terps. I first started watching college football when I saw this kid named Ted Kwalick all over the Street and Smith's type magazines. It was a natural for me, Pennsylvania kid ... Penn State. At age 11 I was a fan and wondered when we were going to get rid of the goofy coach with big eye glasses.

The only thing I remember about college basketball was Lew Alcindor and Elvin Hayes until Lefty's first year. In 69 I saw an undermanned MD team beat South Carolina and was hooked. Elmore and McMillian were recruited although they couldn't play for two years because there was no freshman eligibility.

For years it was no problem until MD and Penn State were in the same conference. So I root for MD in foorball but not when they play Penn State. When it comes to basketball I am all Terps. :noidea:

I hope the Durkin hiring works well and the Terps finish 2nd to PSU every year. Hoping to go to the Penn State vs. MD game this year. Durkin signed a very nice class. I am so glad they got rid of that clown Edsall.

Sportster, Navy Brat here with family roots in Southern California going back to the early to mid 1800's, not the current idea of what a Californian is. And most are PAC 6, maybe 8 fans and Alum. Came to the area like you in 67. Then married a local latter and stayed.
Never was much of a basketball fan, liked Hayes and Unseld (sp) with the Bullets some but never had much basketball in the areas I lived in as a Brat. HORSE was about as good as it got when bored.
Moving all the time and being born but not really from somewhere, I get to root for some teams that others might not connect. And some just like you, I root for unless they are playing my primary team.
Central PA has had big influence on us. My AV picture is my kid at Lincoln or Trail Way Speedway in a 358.
Went to Maryland as married adult while Lefty and Lucas (Mo Howard too who I liked a lot) were there and I became a fan. And Jerry Claiborne in football. Been a fan ever sense.

Win or loose I've found a reason to like every coach except Coach Deadsall. Didn't like him from day one with the way he left UConn and the stuff he did when he got here. One you know Vanderlinden didn't have the success he and we would have hoped for but seemed like a good guy. Went back to you guys on the defensive side and now at my son's school Alma mater the AF Academy.

Oh just so we are clear UMD 1st and Penn State 2nd would be ok with me too. Grin

I spent some time in the Navy in VA Beach. We can't forget the Naval Academy I enjoy watching them too.

2018 recruiting is happening quicker than 2017. 15 of our 30 guys in 2017 were not committed yet buy this time last year counting Browder who was not able to enroll.
We already are 5 over the 85 in commits for 2018 and a class that might end up top 25. We are 16th now but I see about 8 below us only about half their class in commits and higher total average.
Not as many top guys but the bottom is much higher. Really strong with about the same average as last years class .8674 vs .8682 without the kicker. And the kicker is rated really high as a kicker.
Still looking nice.
