Yup, got the hometown discount for WVU, his #1 priority. He extends in October or September and that doesn't happen.

How much was Dana asking for at the beginning of the season? Not sure if a hometown discount was achieved.

No Balls could spin it any way he wanted. If the season went sour, Lyin' Lyons could have said that Dana was not the right choice for this program and cut ties. Instead, he said that he had the best interest for the program. Bullshit. If he had the best interest in the program, he would have cut ties after the Bowl game and brought in his guy. BUT, he didn't have the BALLS to do it. There was no guarantee that Dana was going to stay after a successful season. The only saving grace was that we could have gone to the Best Football school in the State and ask Doc and his band of wizards to come home. Rusher could have led the coronation by tossing rose pedals at Doc's feet as he walks from his vehicle to the AD's office.

Thankfully the deal is done. Our football program, its AD and school have been the laughing stock of college football for the past year and a half.

Hopefully our idiot AD has learned a valuable lesson.

WTF, WVU has NOT been a laughing stock in any way shape or form, everyone but the Luck lovers saw a sub performing coach offered an extension, he turned it down, all parties involved said they would handle it after the season, and it is handled, likely done several weeks ago for it to be announced Saturday. The stupid thing to have done would be to have extended him with a huge raise in the spring, then have a 4-8 season......

What was did we gain by doing it No Balls way? It appears it wasn't the final numbers. Dana did not want to lose guaranteed money. No Balls couldn't decide whether to keep or get rid of Dana, thus disrupting the coaching staff and possibly lose recruits for 2017. All because No Balls inability to make a tough decision. Luck came in with a game plan, cleaned house, and started us down a 5 year plan for success in all spots. Luck didn't come in here and stick his thumbs up his ass.

We gained not having a four win season this year, with a coach owed millions for being fired. Lyons is Holgorsen's boss, he offered Holgorsen an extension which Holgorsen turned down... if you want to blame someone for turmoil and lost recruits, blame your man crush. I give kudos to Lyons for not upping the offer and being on a huge hook if Holgorsen needed fired today.......It is a done deal, maybe you luck lovers should go cheer for the NCAA office, since your love interest works there now.......

You really don't get it. In all your infinite wisdom, would you turn down a guaranteed 2017 payout, or renegotiate a new contract with the potential of losing guaranteed money? Dana was smart to let it play out. No Balls didn't do anything great as you and Rusher want to project. How much of that money was coming out of your pocket?

So you are also saying that Dana would have gone 4-8 if it wasn't for No Ball? Now that is epic. His salary only went up $600k. If he felt Dana wasn't the correct person to lead the team, he should have cut ties after last years Bowl game. Instead, Lyin' Lyons makes up BS like all schools are going to a year to year contract. Your dumb ass bought it. As a result, 2 Assistants bailed and the rotation of Assistant coaches continued. As usual, you only read what you want as far as the 2017 recruiting class. I guess you don't believe the HC or any sports writers or anybody who has a bit of knowledge about football.

If not for Luck, you would be happy playing in the AAC. Oh no, the ACC was going to invite us, right? Don't confuse the ACC and ACC. Wait a minute, you said the SEC would have taken us, but we would have to wait for the next round of expansion...another 4 or 8 years? Go take a look at the University. I know from your ideology that you haven't been then for some time. Most of that is being done with Big 12 money. So far, volleyball is the only sport that hasn't excelled with the changes Luck has made but your super smart AD praised them for a good season? What a dumb ass. Reaping the success of Luck but you can't admit it. You'd be happy having Stewart at the helm. What was that Poppy Math from the other thread? Stewart with a 9-3 record would be comparable to a 4 game win in 1902 but it takes 10/11 wins in a season to be considered successful today. Stewart sure was consistently mediocre. But then again, you were fine with that.

Dana Rips Into Playoff Committee, Praises Team's Resolve
This doesn't do any good, and when coaches start whining about rankings, the next game is almost always lost. WVU played TWO ranked teams this year, and lost both, shut up and coach the team.

?? You must not listen to Bobby Huggin's pressers very often then?...about two weeks right before the selection is made for march madness.........

Luck and his pro Dana anti WVU contract was corrected by Mr Lyons , don't even try to act like that Luck's contract was a good deal for WVU, it wasn't. Lyons stood his ground, Dana had a good year and he STILL singed him to an extension.. A PRO WVU extension! Yea, he's horrible

Wasn't Luck's pro-Dana contract in line with others at the time? Look up the contract Strong received at UofL after his first season. Look up Franklin's contract at Vandy after his first season.

Lyons gave Dana near nothing... because that is all Dana wanted. He could have easily received more in this extension... but, he chose not to take WVU to the bank.

So, Shane accomplished exactly what? Dana gets $3.5 next year instead of $3. If Dana leaves in the future, he gives WVU less in 2 years than the contract Luck provided. Shane's contract makes it easier for Dana to walk, and this is a pro-WVU extension? LOL...

At least the rest of the country won't point out what a loser Shane is for now...

I'm not going to fault Lyons on this. I think he did almost exactly what was planned. At the start of the year, this was Holgs make or break season. I think that Lyons was expecting him to fail. Instead, we ran into a weakened B12 where Baylor and TCU turned from powers to cupcakes. Texas was still a mess leaving WVU KSU OSU and OU as the only teams with a pulse in the conference. If Baylor Texas and TCU play as expected, we have 3 more losses and Dana is gone. The B12 resembled the old Big East this year and like in the Big East, we beat the cupcakes and ended up with lots of wins.

Lyons kept Gibby around as insurance and Gee has worked with Tressel in the past. I saw the writing on the wall. With the wins piling up, the fan base got on board. Even WVUDad jumped on the bandwagon. The stadium was filled, the message boards were praising Dana and Lyons was really backed into a corner. By the end of the season, it was a no brainer for Lyons to resign Holgs at any price.

3.5 million is a fair price given today's salary structure. It has been over two years since we have beaten a top 25 team. There is a reason that as a 2 loss team we are ranked behind 4 loss teams. We have not had a top 25 recruiting class under Holgs. We are much better but still have a long way to go.

I still can't figure out why the Big 12 is down because we ended up at the top....records were about the same as last year. 3 ranked teams to 4 ranked teams.

AS far as the contract, who cares it worked out a way that was best for everyone!

You're kidding with that PRO WVU contract, aren't you? You're bitching about the guaranteed money? Whew. I'm glad that No Balls stood his ground on that. Makes me sleep easier at night with all that money he saved. At least we agree on one thing, No Balls is horrible.

Under performing? My friend wins and losses when your rebuilding/retooling or whatever you want to call it isn't always measured by W/L'S

Well I appreciate your point my friend...but I would suggest that if Wv had the team they had this past year do those teams that have beaten us in the last couple of years not lose one or two more games?

We could argue until our faces turn blue on this one. Baylor and TCU were pretty tough last year.
