make it so PLEASE:suds:

Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports that the Giants have considered trying to acquire Pablo Sandoval from the Red Sox.

Sandoval missed nearly the entire 2016 season due to a left shoulder injury and is still owed another $58 million through 2019. Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski could be willing to eat part of Sandoval's salary in order to clear the way for Yoan Moncada to take over at third base while saving some on what looks to be an awful contract dished out by his predecessor. Sandoval loved his time playing for the Giants and manager Bruce Bochy seems to know how to handle him, making a reunion potentially viable

The Yankees are targeting star free agent closer Aroldis Chapman, but they’ve checked in on several relievers, the top free-agent starters and a whole host of hitters as they try to improve on their rare off year of 2016.

In addition to the previously mentioned Chapman and Kenley Jansen as Yankees targets, plus hitting stars Carlos Beltran, Edwin Encarnacion, Yoenis Cespedes and Jose Bautista, the Yankees have called upon several more top free-agent hitters, including Dexter Fowler, Matt Holliday, Mike Napoli and Brandon Moss, and are believed to have checked in with the better starting pitchers on the market, including Rich Hill and Jason Hammel.

Yeah, would like to see Sandoval gone from Boston but I'm surprised any team would have interest.

Could Chris Carter Serve as a Placeholder DH?

ehh. I'd much rather have Holliday/Encarnacion/maybe Beltran. If they can't sign any of those, they could sign him to a pretty cheap deal. His career stats are comparable to the likes of Trumbo.

Trumbo would be more valuable if he played some 1B, but is it really worth the extra $40-50+ million and first rounder?

I really want to see Encarnacion in a Red Sox uniform. Holliday or Beltran would be nice as well.

As for Trumbo, I'm still not sold on an overpay for him. Those dingrs would be nice of he could keep up the pace, but that's a lot of money.

I still don't get why Jiminez was never brought up by the Tigers. Baffles me to this day.

Baseball America did not place Jimenez in the teams top 10 prospects. Their reasoning was that despite a major league slider, his fastball would be hit-able at the major-league level. Since he throws in the mid 90s, I suspect his fastball lacks movement. Unless he has another pitch, I guess they feel he would not get by on his slider alone.

Winter meetings this week, these are always fun to follow. Going to be interesting to see if there's a decision made on Edwin or Bautista this week or not. Also Chris Carter would be a good add for quite a few teams.

I'd rather just get Carter if you're signing either of them to DH. The difference between them offensively is marginal and it just isn't worth the extra millions.

I think he'll have a bounceback year. Good signing.

Is it just me or has he quietly had a very good career? He has a career line of .303/.382/.515 (134 OPS+) and about 45-50 WAR (depending on whether you look at BB-Ref or Fangraphs). He's batted .293/.380/.494 (138 OPS+), so he hasn't been a product of Coors.

Not sure how etched in stone the Mets are on Duda+/or Loney for 1B this coming season, but I would love for them to consider signing Carter....especially now w/Grandy & Bruce on the trading block....those RBI gotta come from somewhere.

Blue Jays signing Steve Pearce. I'd say that officially closes the door or Encarnacion resigning.
