A new "state of the art" range opened up near here (Ann Arbor Arms) but they're dang expensive -- $20 per half an hour! So I tend to drive to the outdoor range probably 30 minutes away. Really wish I had the property to just shoot in my backyard.

Jeez that makes me glad I live in the middle of nowhere. 100 bucks a year, you get the key to the gate for my gun club, sunrise to sunset. Not perfect, but a nice enclosed shooting area for the rifle range (400 yd) with about 20 stations, and a defensive rifle course. I usually go during the week on a day off and have twice seen another person there. Nice trap range they got set up now with a good quality thrower, and a couple pistol ranges and another defensive pistol range... all outdoors. I was just going to a buddy's farm to shoot, but too many rattlers out there. lol

Nice looking pistol though, I've got a Beretta 92 I use for pistol shooting (just used to it, got one after time in military), but am looking for something else to put on my wish list.

We have a local gun club that my Uncle belongs to, but there's a huge wait list even for sponsored members. It's like $150/year and similar thing...you get a key to the gate, and so on. They have really nice facilities as well. Problem is, you have to participate in so many events each year to stay a member on top of just shooting at the range. Since it's about the same drive as the range that's $10/visit I just can't justify joining. It would take me 15 visits to even break even.

My range is like $100 a year and it's the entire family. Anyone in my household gets 24/7 access.

Indoor and outdoor pistol ranges. Some nice long distance rifle ranges. The works. Great facility.

That's how much the one I go to is too, including the family. They give you a key to the gate and you can come and go as you please. 350 yard rifle range and a 30 yard pistol range. Nothing fancy but it's not crowded which is what I was looking for. I can go on most Tuesdays and not see another soul out there. We even got a new porter potty the other day  .

Haha. Nothing beats a new porta-potty.

My favorite part of this range is they have private outdoor bays. I can set up my own targets and work on my own drills. I'm almost always able to get one of these and it's just perfect since I do all kinds of shit that gets me funny looks if other people are around haha.

Yeah, I usually wait until I'm by myself before I go running around shooting out from behind random shit, among the other "real world" things I like to work on lol. It's good practice that I think everybody needs to do it, I just feel stupid doing it in front of other random people.

No doubt. Especially if you want your training to match real world possibilities. What if I'm attacked while nekkid you know?

Seriously though. Most people that go to ranges just don't know how to react to anything dynamic. They're there to stand five yards back from a threatening piece of paper and dish out justice one round at a time. The thought of replicating real world obstacles and training to overcome them just makes them see you as a tacticool mall ninja or something.

And to note as well, some things that I work on just aren't the safest to do around people who may not have the hot range discipline I do. And really, I'm actually very tacticool in my dockers and Nike golf shirt.

Put another 1000 though the carry P-07 this past weekend. A case of Freedom Munitions 115GR RN. I'm at 14,374 rounds now and it's still humming along like a CZ should. Have I mentioned how much I like this gun? I might have. Once. Or twice.

Thinking about sending it out to Cajun Gun Works when I hit 15K through it just to have them go over the gun and replace springs and check for wear. Probably be worth a couple hundred dollars for the peace of mind. The question is, if I'm sending it out to them do i want to have the upgrades installed while it's there? I'm happy with the gun as is but... how much better could it be?

I gotta get to the range more.

Cumulative round count through the summer. I think. I might have missed something. I try to keep good round counts but I might have confused myself along the way. Ugh.

-----------

Total Rounds Through Gun #1 So Far: 15,178
Total Failures: 3 (None caused my gun)
2, hard/bad primers, both AE9AP
1 slide failure Freedom Munition 124 RN New due to excessive dirt in action (2000+ rounds without cleaning).

An interesting note is that I've not had a parts breakage yet with gun #1. I have replaced the TRS once just as a preventative thing though since they can be problematic with the CZ design for some reason. I threw in a CGW reduced power a while back. I'm probably due to repeat that. Maybe toss one in gun #2 as well.

This gun is badass. Not sure if I've mentioned that yet.

The P07 is not my cup of tea. I'm an all metal guy. That said, I LOVE CZs. I have:

a CZ-52
CZ52_newgrips1.JPG

Its big and clunky and not ergonomic at all. But it fires the 7.62X25 Tokarev round which is very high speed and you can pick one up cheap.....around $350 or so.

A CZ-82
CZ_82_IMG_1785.JPG

This sweet 9mm Makarov started my love affair with CZs. Its cheap - you can pick one up for about $350 now or maybe even as low as $300. It is incredibly reliable, has an ambidextrous mag release and safety and is based on the old Walther blowback design. Its just 3 parts...the base, the slide and the spring. The barrel is permanently attached and like a lot of former Warsaw Pact weapons, chrome lined which means it has absolutely no problem eating cheap (and dirty) steel cased Russkie ammo for the Makarov. This thing was the military sidearm of the Czech army and was issued to Czech police.....when they were retired from service they were dumped on the US market which is why they're such a bargain. The thing is relatively small so you could use it as a concealed carry if you really wanted to (yes there are smaller and lighter sidearms you could choose) and the 9mm Makarov round is quite effective enough to use as a self defense weapon. Also this thing is ergonomic as can be and quite accurate due to its polyganol rifling. Some of them show some holster wear on the finish but...so what? Its a little snappy but not near as much as a lot of the much lighter polymer guns. At the price and for the features it offers, this thing is a STEAL.

a CZ-75BD
2qds5ys.jpg

This full sized beauty is a mid priced ($540) sidearm and is easily THE most ergonomic and accurate sidearm I have ever owned....and I've owned quite a few. 15 round mag, 9mm luger, incredibly reliable. A joy to shoot and a real tack driver. The decocker feature is nice. Its not as simple to breakdown and clean as the CZ-82 but its not particularly difficult. For some reason these did not attain the popularity in the states they have always had internationally. The CZ-75 and its variants are the 2nd most cloned handgun in the world after only the 1911...and for good reason. Its just excellent.

a CZ-2075 Rami
CZ-2075-Rami-9mm.jpg

as you can see from the stock photo, its smaller than its cousin the CZ-75 and about the same size as the CZ-82 but a bit thicker. Its also a 9mm luger and comes with the 10 round mag which you would then shoot with a 3 fingered grip or a 14 round mag which does extend the size of the grip enabling you to use a 4 fingers but makes the gun less concealable. Like all CZs this thing is reliable as hell. I have never had a single FTF with either my 75 or my Rami or the 82 for that matter and I've a lot of rounds through each. The Rami was also mid priced at around $550. That certainly makes it more expensive than some popular concealed carries (like my Taurus 85 .38 caliber snubbie for example) but even with the smaller mag its 10 shots vs 5 and more accurate and longer range. I know which one I'd rather have if I had to use either one. Therefore IMO, it was well worth the $150-200 price difference.

Very cool. I might one day add an 82 and a 75 for shits and giggles. Metal guns for me are more collectible though as opposed to training and carry. So I always end up putting them on the backburner and spending my money on ammo.

Them plastic guns are hungry sobs haha.

Just bought 2K rounds (2 cases) of Federal 9MS 147GR JHP. It's the old Navy Seal load. Old tech but still available. At $14.50 per 50 I couldn't pass it up though. I'll probably shoot off half of it and stash the other half for the robot apocalypse.

Ran a case of the 9MS through the carry gun this past weekend.

Total Rounds Through Gun #2 (CCW) So Far: 5,398
Total Failures: 0

My malfunction training is seriously starting to suffer. I might have to buy a 1911 and work on some failure drills. :pound:
