Chrome.

My dad still uses Internet Explorer. I tried showing him Chrome when I visited a while ago and he didn't like it. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.

Firefox is better for people who want heavy customization
It still sucks on memory usage and is slower than Chrome and Vivaldi on both Windows and Linux. Vivaldi offers a lot of customization too, though it does use Chrome extensions. But hell, over the years so many good Firefox extensions have went by the wayside I just quit using it on Windows, though I still use it on occasion on Linux it is not my browser of choice.

Tried getting my mother in law a chromebook. She has a slightly older but top of the line laptop she uses for internet browsing, watching video's and checking facebook on. That's it. Always has driver issues, other random operating system issues, bogged down with crap issues, battery issues, and her desktop screen is literally about 100 shortcuts for internet explorer websites.

We bought her a Chromebook with a nice big screen, set it up, got her favorites punched in etc and she's used it once.

As a full stack developer, I like the add-ons I get from Firefox, but like the Developer Toolkit and features when Internet browsing better on Chrome.

And sure, Chrome tracks you.. but do does every other service. I use Google Analytics and I can tell the demographics of my users, what kind of **** you like, etc.... so from an analytic perspective, Google is king.

Most developer prefer Firefox. Neither is very secure. I am done with Google at this point. I barely even sign into youtube anymore. Even my next phone will be a cheapo Android that I will root and remove everything Google.

Opera is still pretty good but not recognized by every website so certain site features may not work. I am going to give Vivaldi a try as well. I occasionally use the old IE. Edge is horrible. Took it right off the display. Removed as much as I could, but MS is getting like Google now in that their OS will crap out if you remove certain elements (Edge and Cortana for starters).

So the in laws just came out.

She had an update to her laptop and now it won't connect to the internet so she's going to try the chromebook. I showed her how to bookmark websites, and she's a bit upset she can't just make a shortcut and put it on the desktop.

She's also upset it doesn't have a CD player. I had to show her how every song ever can be found online. I also introduced her to youtube which she had no idea existed.

Using Vivaldi with Adguard and Stelath Mode now. Pretty good but a little slower than Opera with AdGuard a Privacy badger, but slightly better overall surfing. FYI, Stealth mode blocks google analytics and other trackers and will part of the AdGuard extension at some point in the future. Stay away from Ghostery or any blockers that are created and supported by advertisers. Almost as bad as google security wise.

I also use Spy-bot anti-beacon when doing sensitive financial activities.

I know some people will probably laugh at this... but seriously which one is better in your opinion and why?

I like firefox more because it allows me to customize it more, keeps privacy more secure, and runs faster. But Chrome also has a lot of good things about it. I don't know, just wondering what you guys thought. I recently made the full switch to Firefox.

Firefox has been taken over by social engineering. It's so fucking buggy I hate using it.

been using Opera Mini on my phone lately and have had very little issue with it

I mean, all that really matters is that what happens in Incognito stays in Incognito, right?

There are tons of trackers used by websites and service providers that incognito does not block. All Incognito does really is remove history and cookies.

Opera has a free VPN too.

Chrome is better for more casual users or lower-end PCs - simpler and slicker.

Firefox is better for people who want heavy customization

I have been running Chrome like, forever. I also have Firefox but have not used it in years. With that being said my computer is so slow and tHoop crashes all the F'ing time. Today I opened up Firefox and tHoop loaded up in no time.

I thought it might be because I uninstalled everything from adobe including flash, but then I found out that flash is built in. I am not very technically savvy but I do know enough to get me in trouble.

I have an older machine with 2gb RAM and running windows 7. Having said all of that I disagree with your assessment unless you can point out where I am going wrong or what I need to do to fix the problems I have with Chrome.

I just downloaded the Vivaldi but I have not installed it yet.

FWIW, Edge has proven to be the most secure browser now by at least two different independent studies. Yeah, it still lacks in extensions (I hardly use any in any browser myself). I still prefer Vivaldi though.

And for you adventurous types Maelstron, the BitTorrent browser, has a new release. I'm still not sure if this is a beta version or what as I can't find any postings about it on the BitTorrent site. I had to go to Softpedia to download it. It, like Vivaldi, uses Chrome extensions but only those available in the Google Chrome Store. It seems to be OK but it fails to load some sites seemingly at random, i.e. it'll load a site once and then refuse to load it the next time...and then it may or may not load the next time. :noidea:

Pretty much using Vivaldi exclusively now that I finally was able to get widevine plugin working. Evidently it does not like the chromium version of the widevine plugin.

Opera mini has not been running great lately. Keeps shutting down and having me restart, so I decided to try out Dolphin for a bit. So far, pretty clean, I guess.
