Seven foot center, 28 years old play played for Dallas and a few other teams before going to play for China. Scored 25 points against team USA and was the fourth or fifth highest scorer in the Olympics. So the Lakers are giving him one year for 8 million as a back up center

Money is of no issue. They would have had to share the remaining cap space amongst the active players anyway.

Plus they'll get a lot more back from marketing in China.

Yeah, no issue with this move. It's a 1 year deal. If he's NBA ready...great. If not...it's a 1 year deal and he goes back to China.

That means they'll move Black to forward and/or put the Z-man on the D-league roster. Or maybe they keep all four centers on the active roster.

Yi is more likely to be a PF, despite his height advantage over Black. He has some range on his jumper and is not really a banger at 6'11, 243 lbs.

The Lakers made a good move with the signing. They are continuing to build the rebuild and this signing gives them more options that are all upside. Jeanie and Phil's fingerprints may be on this one but one thing for sure, the Lakers appear to have hit bottom and are on the way back up as the Howard/Nash trades nightmare continues to disappear.

So there are 3 'games played' marks he has to hit to earn the majority of his contract. The contract counts $8mil towards the cap though.

Good move. I think most contracts should be like that. Gives him an incentive to play hard. If he sucks he moves to the end of the bench and the team saves a few bucks.
