But those immigrants didn't assimilate over night. It takes time.

Lots of immigrant groups who came here in mass migrations started off in little ethnic enclaves, mostly because it was convenient to be surrounded by fellow countrymen, but also because they were not permitted to live elsewhere.

And when most of these groups first arrived, they were maligned by the "native" population as lazy, or dangerous in some way, and were blamed for society's problems. The shit that the Irish took was especially bad, and they spoke English already. For groups like the Germans, Italians, & eastern European Jews, it took a few generations but now they're just reg'lar folks.

The closest group to today's Mid-Eastern immigrants would probably be the Italian anarchists, some of who also blew things up... but most of the Italians and the other ethnic groups just wanted to come here and make money. I think the vast majority of Mid-Eastern immigrants to this country also just want to come and make money.
Most immigrants I know(and I'm surrounded by them in my daily life. Which I'm happy aboot.) know they'll never be "American". Nothing that they can ever do, or learn, or see will change that. Almost all accept it in some way. But good lord do they ever love the idea that their children will be.

News flash to all you white people, you are also decedents of immigrants. Some of ya'll chose to bury your heritage and just call yourself "American" but some of kept their heritage, like Italian and Irish Americans. Lou Holtz doesn't want people bringing new culture to our country, yet he coached "the fightin irish". What a dummy.

LMAO. I'm trying to have a discussion but all you give me are opinions. I want facts, statistics. Some empirical evidence. Give me some proof the Religion of Peace is just that. I say it isn't. Prove me wrong. Go ahead. I'm waiting. Take any period of history. Go ahead. I can defend my position but you aren't doing that.

You aren't trying to "have a discussion." You've already made up your mind and seem to be looking for confirmation of your biased opinion. My point was that there are terrorists in every religion. You want to discuss that, I'm in. Otherwise, I'm out.

No one in their right mind can say there aren't terrorists in every religion. But equating the very small number of attacks committed by Christians to the tsunami of atrocities committed by Muslims is the issue we are faced with when trying to decide what immigration policies are fair and which ones aren't. Up through a couple of days ago, there have been 1,332 Islamic attacks in 50 countries this year alone, in which 12,245 people were killed and 15,058 injured. That obviously doesn't include the most recent murders such as the 84 year old French priest that got his head cut off yesterday by some ISIS sympathizers. Now give me the Christian stats and we'll see if they are comparable. If they are you've made your point. If they aren't, I've made mine.

There's a difference between bringing your culture and bringing your inseparable religion/form of government, which has arrested you in the first millennium A.D., and attempting to implement it, often by force and intimidation. There are also certain values (women's rights, freedom of speech and religion, scientific advancement, gay rights) which we hold sacred in the West. Immigrants from Europe, East Asia, etc. didn't come here, or more currently in Europe, although you'll start to see it anywhere the per capita Muslim numbers go up, and demand the rights of others. False comparison.

It's not Islam, it's the Buddhists in East Asia, the Hindus in India, the Chinese, the Russians, the Israelis, the Europeans, the Christians in central Africa, the US, other Muslims...it's all these groups...not Islam.

Has to be the most idiotic reply in the history of the hoop, most others you chalk up to trolling. You do realize that you can keep you're family heritage yet still assimilate into American culture right?

Yes, but European Americans tend to leave their heritage behind, because it makes them feel less American. Case in point Lou Holtz, and his dumb comment.
