Still though, Mickelson had to hit that putt. In the British, you can stripe one down the middle and it hits a mound and goes sideways into a pot bunker in the middle of the fairway from which there is no escape. Its too flukey. I find myself looking for the Windmill Hole or the Clown's Mouth on some of these courses.

The historical aspect of it is what makes the British Open somewhat appealing. But this insistence on referring to it as "The Open" bugs me. They even threatened ABC several years ago that they would not get another contract to broadcast the event unless they started referring to it as such.

lol ... I agree completely with the British Open thing ...but I do us it for no other reason other than I I'm lazy and don't want to type "British"

For the purpose of this board from now on I'll type Brit Open ..thats easy enough.

The British "luck factor" carries over the weather more than any other major...if you're on the bad end of the draw, your chances could be dead by Friday.

Every country with an established national golf Open often refers to there home open as the open...the British insistence on theirs being call The Open is a bit annoying to me as well because it wasn't always referred to in that manner....hell, until Arnie went over there, a lot of American players used to skip it.
