Oregon is THIS close to going up in flames. UCLA has the QB, but it's depth is razor-thin. And USC and Stanford wanna kill each other again...

:10:  This conference is gonna be FUN! So let's start the madness by voting on that poll up above. And I'll be back tomorrow with my first previews!

Can't really pick a winner when there are so many questions and so much potential parity at the top of the Pac this year. There are reasons to look at Stanford, USC, UW, and WSU and yet all of them have serious questions. And you can't totally write off the ducks with all of that deep talent and a top running back even if their defense and starting QB have substantial questions.

Stanford is the popular pick, but favored by a mile? Not really.

really hard to pick a winner this year-almost a toss-up. I chose Washington, just because they're young and a popular dark-horse candidate this year.

Ducks return only 11 starters from last year. Only 1 returns from their entire D front 7. They return only 1 out their 5 best rated tacklers from last year. They also only return 2 on the Oline. And magic man Adams is gone.

Duck fans are acting like there will be some instant magic turnaround in 2016 with their D because Hoke arrived. Think they're in for a rude awakening with that one. Not with those kind of loses at the front 7 and at the same time migrating to an entirely new D scheme.

Ducks keep claiming the betting world is nuts for not calling 9+ wins for them. They can keep claiming that if it makes them sleep better.

8 wins or less this year. That's reality.

The reason for the optimism on the defense is because it would be hard to get worse even with the losses. 4 of the o line saw significant time. Adams is gone but Lockie and Alie arent taking snaps either.

The first preview segment for the PAC-12 Conference: The Oregon Ducks

Last season: In 2015, fans of this new-age powerhouse started dumping on Vernon Adams when Oregon lost to teams like Wazzu and Utah. But it turns out Adams wasn't the problem; him and Royce Freemen were the 2 people holding the team up. Turns out the defense was at fault (it ranked 116th last year).
But despite all that, Oregon still went 9-4 in 2015. But now, question marks are abound in Eugene for the 2016 campaign.

Bad news:
Ducks return only 11 starters from last year. Only 1 returns from their entire D front 7. They return only 1 out their 5 best rated tacklers from last year. They also only return 2 on the Oline. And magic man Adams is gone.

Good news: However, Mr. Freeman is still here. And Darren Carrington is slowly becoming the star of an impressive WR group. Plus, I'm optimistic that new defensive mind Brady Hoke can help out that beleaguered unit.

2016 X-factor: QB Dakota Prukap- Speaking of QB, Oregon is hopeful that Dakota Prukop can lead their offense. Dakota, a graduate transfer from Montana State...

More bad news: ...Wait a minute, Oregon. This is the 2nd straight year you're leaning on a graduate transfer for your QB? Are you THAT uncertain with your own QB's?

Key games:
9/17 @ Nebraska (Despite that, I still think Oregon will handle Virginia. Ducks fans, however, are worried that they may get exposed in Lincoln. Guess we'll find out how good that new defense is, huh?)
10/1 @ Washington State (Last year, Wazzu used a double-OT win over Oregon to launch a grand 9-4 season. For the rematch, just expect a s--tload of points to be scored.)
10/8 vs. Washington (Everyone's expecting the Huskies to be grand this year. If Oregon punches them in the mouth again, however...)
11/5 @ USC (Always exciting when the Trojans and Ducks play each other.)
11/12 vs. Stanford (Since the PAC-12 split into divisions, no-one other than Oregon and Stanford has won the North.)

Bottom line: With the two Washington school rising fast and Stanford being... well, Stanford, Oregon may be looking at a 4th-place finish in the PAC-12 North.
Yet somehow, I just can't see it; the Ducks still have Freemen, and their defense can't possibly be worse than 2015's. Mr. Helfrich, let's see if you can save Oregon from a sad fate of a lower-tier bowl.

It's 50/50 between Prukop and Jonsen for the starting job. I'm hoping Jonsen wins it, but both have performed well so far.

Nobody dumped on Adams for those 2 games because Oregon fans knew he didn't play (except like 3 plays against Utah) he was hurt. Oregon fans knew that.
Oregon hasn't named a starter and all I have heard all year is that it is still neck and neck between Prukop and Jonsen. WSU has risen fast, Washington has been hyped up fast. there is a difference. Stanford being Stanford and Oregon still beat them last year. UW too. and it was an OT loss to WSU with the 2nd and 3rd string QBs

Can't say I see any sparks to suggest Oregon being close to going up in flames. and I cant really say I dislike what you had to say but I don't agree with all your points.

Arizona

Preview segment: The Arizona Wildcats

Last season: Yes, Arizona won it's 3rd bowl game in 4 years during the 2015 season, but the team only went 7-6 as QB injuries handicapped everyone. Mr. Rodriguez hasn't had a season like this since his final year at Michigan, but don't get used to it; Arizona will be better this year.

Good news: I'm not worried about 'Zona's QB competition. Regardless of if Anu Solomon keeps the job, or if Brandon Dawkins wins it in fall camp, the offense will be moving along fine. It helps that RB Nick Wilson is still here and the O-line is good.

Bad news: Look. Let's just say that Arizona's defense is going through a total rebuild, and then just move on.

Key games:
9/3 vs. BYU [in Glendale, AZ] (Everyone's expecting a QB duel for the ages here. But to me, I wanna see how Arizona's defense is gonna handle stiff competition right out of the gate.)
9/24 vs. Washington (Losing 49-3 to the Huskies was Arizona's lowest moment in 2015.)
10/1 @ UCLA (Running a close #2, though, was the moment where Arizona had "College Gameday"... and then got smoked by UCLA that night.)
10/29 vs. Stanford (Here's hoping that Wildcat defense has a plan for when Christian McCaffrey comes to visit.)
11/25 vs. Arizona State (The Sun Devils have won 3 of the last 4 meetings for the "Territorial Cup.")

Bottom line: Ah, Arizona will be fine. R-Rod will always find a way to put points on the board, and the defense can't possibly be worse than last year's. Much like I'm selling Oregon, I'm buying Arizona as they'll be a factor in the PAC-12 South.
But winning it? Mmm... with that defense, definitely not.

Like I said, sir, it'll all depend on what the coaching staff does. But thanks for pointing out Travis Jonsen; from the sound of it he may be Oregon's long-term solution.
Which brings up another question: Do you think Jonsen will play, and if so, when?

Week 1 no matter who the starter is we will likely see Prukop, Jonsen and even potentially Wilson. It is likely they try to redshirt Wilson though.

Also what duck fans are you talking to that think Oregon will get exposed at Nebraska? Yeah that's a game I have noted but I'm not all that worried about it.

Seldom have I ever seen a contested QB battle actually equal that both were fucking outstanding. It normally means both have flaws and it's a matter of finding which one you can live with more.

Studs win jobs outright and leave no doubt.

Prukop has the game experience, Jonsen has the playbook and schemes knowledge. both have talent but strengths vary a bit
