There are a lot of guys really hurting. He was the definition of what being a Husker is all about. Truly gifted punter but an even better person.

Just a few weeks ago I was driving up in the mountains in Colorado and made the mistake of looking at a wreck site. There were two bodies on gurneys with thin white sheets covering them next to a truck wrapped around a tree. It was jarring and stuck with me. Just how fast a life can be taken from this world and there's no hitting the rewind button, no do-over.

If there's anything positive than can come from this, it's to remind us who knew Sam's story to remember that you get one shot and you never know when your number is up. You have to try to make every day count for something whether it's helping someone else or bettering yourself. No matter how little or how big of an impact, you just have to try.

RIP Sam. i said it in the other thread but felt like adding it here too. just saddens me, not just because he was a Husker, but because of how great of a guy he was. Sad about Mike Sadler too. Can't stand to see stuff like this.

I remember being at the McNeese state game and being fortunate enough to be pretty close to the field, and the one thing that stood out to me more than anything else including Ameer's game winning run was Sam's leg. He put on a clinic that day, pinning them deep and sending off booming punts that you could hear from the nosebleeds.

The players and coaches have vouched for this, but the sound the ball made when it came off his foot was something you only see out of a select few guys even in the NFL.

He genuinely loved it and lived it. He wasn't just a typical specialist either. He was a true athlete and came here with the opportunity to play WR and Safety with full ride offers from a few schools.

He grew up listening to Husker games on the farm out in the field dreaming of playing for the Huskers. His dad bought him a ball when he was younger and he'd practice punting out into the field on the farm.

He was set up to have an all-american type season and was well on his way to being drafted.

He just earned his agronomy degree this year and his plan was to go back and work on the farm with his dad when he was done.

Joe Tessitore was at the kicking camp Sam and Mike were at in Wisconsin and had this to share about his incredible personal experience with both of them even just before their passing.

I just don't have any words. One of the strangest feelings as a fan, feeling closer than you are. Husker Nation lost a great one

I had this feeling once. When #18 went down in a plane. It sucks and it will be one of the questions I ask the good Lord in heaven why things like this happen. Prayers to his family and the Mich St punters family. My heart hurts for them.

I didn't fully understand the impact Brook would have at the time...I was only 6. I still kind of realized it was a big deal, and in the years since then I've come to appreciate everything he meant to this state. I have a feeling we will all feel the same way about Sam in 20 years.

Although not fair to compare, Foltz had a lot of similar characteristics as Brook. When your punter is widely look at as a leader on your team, that should say something.

Life is short fellas. Eat, Drink and be Merry

Yeah Brandon Reilly was talking about how he was on the drive over to the stadium realizing that Foltz was gonna be a team captain.

That's the strangest part. I recently met one of the back up kickers who was one of Sam's best friends. Great guy. This has to be hitting him like a ton of bricks.

That's the thing though we all follow and root for these guys success on the field as players but along the way we learn bout 'em as people and start to root for 'em in all aspects of their life.

Well said,

it really puts into perspective that life is too short and so unpredictable. It's moments like these where you realize that and try to live life in every moment because at any moment it can be taken away so fast. Yet it is so hard to live that way.

From what I've read about this tragic accident is this guy was a great man, and you guy have lost not only a good player, but a great man and a great person within the community.

Really sucks, and thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

I just ordered the red state outline one.

Is this company legit? I'm all about buying a shirt but feel a little dirty buying a shirt and not knowing if my money is truly going to an organization in Sam's honor. I know it's still early and charities will be set up eventually. Just would like to make sure the money is going into the right hands and somebody isn't simply making a profit off of this tragedy.

BBB Printing does a bunch of Nebraska stuff. They're local and from what I've heard they're good people. Big Nebraska fans.
