No he won't.

Dana will either be fired despite winning 8-9 games, or he will accept a HC position somewhere else.

Dana is done at WVU. Shane has made that perfectly clear...

How exactly did Lyons "make it clear"? He offered Holgorsen a raise and extension, which was rejected by Holgorsen........

You don't know what was offered or the terms....with the way he is handling the Assistant Coaches on a year to year contract..that in itself sends the message about Dana...

You are spot on my old friend!

Dana was offered an extension without a bonus. Shane offered him a two year extension at $2.9 million per year through 2019. If Dana was fired without cause, he would be paid $2.9 million. If Dana left prior to 2019, the buyout was lowered to $1 million.

Dana's current contract pays him $2.9 million in '16 and '17.

Anyone with a fucking brain would know that Dana is not Shane's guy. Shane offered no sign of support throughout the '15 season. Only after the '15 season finale... a loss to KSU, did he say Dana would be our coach in '16.

He offered Dana an insulting contract extension which clearly implied he does not believe Dana is the guy for the future of the program. His handling of Dana resulted in WVU losing a great CB coach to VT, and forced Dana to hire his replacement late in the game. Dana now fields two very inexperienced secondary coaches in a league which puts more pressure on the back 4-5 than any league in the country.

Shane should have fired Dana's ass after the conclusion of the '15 season. Instead, he has put the program in dangerous position. WVU could become the next Pitt in which coaches come and go so fast there is no continuity in the program for years to come.

Oh do tell, who is the short list?

Pull out your latest hotseat article and anyone of the coaches on that list could potentially be on the long list, right? This type of logic I present works for a few of you.

$2.9 million is insulting for a barely .500 coach.............hardly. What should he have been offered?
Take a look at these 2015 salaries, look where some much better coaches rank.
USA TODAY Sports
To say offering Holgorsen an extension at "only" $2.9 million is insulting is pure BS.

In the history of college football, has a head coach ever been offered an extension without a bump in salary? Ever?

Any competent AD in this country would have fired the head coach rather than offer an extension without an increase in salary. If you feel .500 is not worthy of a bonus and extension, then you fire. You don't insult the coach by extending such an offer. This is telling of our new AD. His stupidity and inaction will be remembered. Some were screaming about the way Billy was treated by Luck. Luck gave Billy an honorable exit, but Billy chose not to move to the AD office... chose to stay on as HC.

I truly can't believe how fucking stupid some of the WVU fan base come off looking...

According to the link provided, Dana had the third lowest salary among Big 12 coaches last year. Only ISU and KU fell lower. Since joining the Big 12, WVU has finished in a tie for 5th place or better in all but one year. There is absolutely ZERO reasons Dana should not have received a bump in salary above Kliff Kingsbury. NONE...

Holgorsen is in the middle of the pack for "power conference" coaches as far as salary. He is well below average in job performance. In YOUR job, do you get a raise for doing a crappy job? If there is ANY beef with what Holgorsen is making, it lies with Luck for paying Holgorsen, a totally green HC too MUCH. I think there are a couple of reason's why Holgorsen turned down the extension: He thinks this years team will be MUCH better than the past couple and feels he will be negotiating from a position of strength, OR he is planning on packing it in after this year or next and going back to being an OC somewhere else. What shows stupidity is to expect a guy doing a middle of the road job to be offered a big raise............

What a weird thread.

Your coach has gone from 4-8 to 7-6 to 8-5 in the Big 12 and I suspect you'll be double digit favorites against Mizzou in week 1.

In the B12, WVU has gone 4-5, 2-7, 5-4, 4-5, I see no improvement there at all. Nothing weird about holding a guy to task for doing nothing but maintain and make excuses about his lack of progress. We are favored over Mizzou now for the opener, but we will have to see how the game ends up! I want the Mounties to be the best they can, and feel this experimental coach has done all he can do. Will he ever be a good HC, we don't know, but I do not think he has the personality to be a great. We will see, should be an interesting next few years.

Didnt you guys lose your best player after 4 games last year?

Granted, if Mizzou did beat you guys in week 1 then it wouldn't be the first coach Mizzou has gotten fired but you'd have to think his job is safe if he is able to string together another bowl season.

No... his job will be anything but safe. This will be Dana's last year as WVU's HC.

If he has a big year, he will take a better job at a more elite school/program. Understandably so... you don't get treated like he did by the AD last year and want to remain a part of such a small time organization. If he wins 7-9 games, he will be fired... and he won't coach WVU in their bowl game.

BTW... if WVU loses to Mizzou in game 1, I hope Dana gets fired immediately after. Mizzou shouldn't be within 20 points of WVU....

Clayton....with this guy it is NC or nothing, I mean that is what we are owed after all of our previous titles and double digit win seasons.

5 wins ties Dandy Don for his second best record in BE play. Only had 5 or more wins in BE twice. A lot of 4th and 5th place finishes for ol Don. Even going back to his Bowling Green days he never won a conf....so here is a tenured coach who had 20 years exp brought us 1 conf title in 10 year (members of the BE).

I do not think Lyons owed him a ton of cash, but he owed him and the program the sense of protection as we move forward. Worst case scenario is Lyons has hurt us recruiting and he fires DH....next coach will instantly be behind the 8 ball instead of being able to take some of the positive that has been done here and run with it.

Actually there are several million reasons, WVU has been making less money than ISU, KU and everyone else save TCU. Mr. Lyons offered about what he has been worth, he will have the money to offer more should Dana earn it OR he will have millions more to hire a better coach because he didn't waste the extra money on Dana's buyout by firing him.

Yeah... that is small time thinking. You and our dumb ass AD got a lot in common. I mean... how much would old Doc take to be the next WVU HC?

WVU has been making more than twice what they made in the BE for a few years now. They have plenty of money and plenty of deep pockets who ain't so happy with Dana.

You ain't gonna be saving millions when the team sucks for a few years starting with the '16 season. Thanks to Shane being a cheap stupid shit, Dana has not been able to lock down some big recruits for the '16 class and the '17 class could end up one of the worst in forever.

Fans will not show up for a loser. We all know that when fans quit coming to watch Billy's teams. This will cost WVU more than the 2.9 million to have canned Dana's ass last December. Much more...

And what has Butch Jones or a Cliff Kingsbury done exactly?
