The Masters does not show all of the golf played unlike this one. I love how Golf Channel & NBC cover every minute of the tourney & have - by far - the best analysts in the best (Johnny Miller's know-it-all attitude not withstanding). CBS and Nance also have non-stop boring interviews w/ CEOs and other types as well as showing all these stupid documentaries while the tourney is still in play (you can watch those things elsewhere anytime you like).

SoCal...I don't disagree with any post your post really, but thru my eyes, some of the same things apply to every golf tourney...but then again, this one of those few times when I'm a blind homer....:suds:

Don't get me wrong - I love watching the Masters. My issue is with CBS. Maybe I didn't pay attn but I don't recall NBC or the Golf Channel spending time interviewing the CEO of Buick or some random financial company or spending tons of time talking w/ some high level PGA official. CBS does this all of the time. I just think that the Golf Channel /NBC tandem does things the rt way. Oh well - I will take any of them especially at this time of year when there are not a lot of good sports on TV.

I like golf tournaments period...I'd rather play than watch, but the majors are the top of the sport, I watch and like all 4.

Again, you're right, and maybe the Masters has more of it, but I saw NBC showing little tidbits about the town where the British is held, they talked to people in R&A...same sort of thing....filler. Televised golf lends itself to that because most people don't care to see a lot of shots from players that are 15 shots off the lead I guess.

At the end of the day...I don't think we really miss much live action at either one...it's more like I like strawberry and you like vanilla kind of deal.

Let me try clear up a few things.

  • Augusta National loses millions every year because they demand that 56 minutes of every hour is dedicated to golf action during the Masters tournament. This is unheard of since the invention of the TV.
  • Don't forget, the CBS broadcast might start at 2pm but that might be a half hour before the scheduled 2:30pm showing of live golf action.
  • The Brit Open starts here at 4am, that's not exactly prime time for commercials or anything else for that matter. Since it comes on so early I don't think there is much pressure for them to cram in a bunch of stuff and they end up showing you lots of golf as a result.

To your point, yes few things drive me more nuts than waiting for the golf to come on, they show golf action for 20 minutes and then they go to the booth and start bullshitting for 10 minutes.

I have never noticed that one network does more of that than the another.

My HUGE problem right now is that cancer joe buck has come into my golf world and ruined it.
I need him in my golf world like a turtle needs mudguards.

LOL - you got me! I totally forgot about this (now stupid) comment! Feel free to ask me about other picks so that you can make $$ betting just the opposite.

Related to this - how about the fact that the last 4 majors have been won by 1st time winners - most of whom have had a very long drought.

I enjoy watching a first time major winner close the deal too.

I'm a bit surprised that no one has mentioned The Master's website. I think it is fantastic and it has a lot more golf coverage than what they allow the networks to show.

If you have a quality internet connection and 2 computers (like I do) you can watch a boat load of golf before network coverage even begins.

I highly recommend it along with the U.S. Open website.

I tried the site for The Open this past Sunday while I was golfing and it sucked. I ended up going to ESPN for their leaderboard coverage and I would refresh the page after we finished each hole to follow the battle between Stenson and Phil.

I think you mean leaving on the table instead of losing...they reportedly make about $25 to $30 mil in profits per. AN members are a bunch of old, rich, mostly white males that are really more about control, and that's their prerogative I guess....hell, there was a time when they never even showed the front 9 on TV.

Good point...I watched a fair amount of Masters Thurs-Fri coverage here at work online...same for the USO...the British had feature group coverage online and I think maybe feature holes...all three worked pretty good for me..

ATL, I have always enjoyed your commentary. And I plan to do so in the future.

But please take your hypocritical bull shit about race & greed to the official playground for such rantings.
Lets just say that the artillery used on the political board are more suited for a response to your comments.

I'll spare you my own rantings of how we are all greedy but we don't see it because it's on a smaller scale.
Not offended at all, and sorry for being a little to harsh.

I see the golf board as kinda like an oasis from all the crap you get on the other boards.

I saw your comments and when right into nasty political mode.

No problem...me as well

I'm all in on the Masters...actually think they leave a lot of money on the table, but it didn't come across that way I guess.

Water under the bridge..:suds: indeed.

I had pretty good wifi coverage on the course, but could not get The Open site to give me anything, but a home page. I was bumming.
