i have to say watching the draft unfold it was the worst possible situation for the devils to be in. none of the top guys fell and no one stepped up and took any d like they were suppose to.

when keller went to the yotes at what? 6? you know we were toast.

devils sitting there with either brown or chychun as the "top" ones left. i was happy they moved back a spot figured when they took brown that the devils would take the best d man in the draft or next best d man i was surprised they drafted michael. i'm not a draft wiz or anything i couldn't tell any of these kids apart but after reading up on him and then seeing his clip above ^^^^ from a different website. it made total sense that this was who they were after all along. i am all for speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed give me speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed more speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed please! yeah there is talk he can't finish but you know what with those wheels he will create a ton of other opportunities.

i read he was the "safest" pick on the board and he will most definitely be an nhl player so how can you go wrong with that? well they project him to top out at a 2C but great with face-offs and a born leader i can't complain at all.

i wonder if jost was there when the devils went would they still have traded back? or would they have taken jost? my belief is that they wouldn't have this was the guy they wanted

i'm also giving all the trust in the world to the new scouting department. conte isn't even working in the nhl anymore if i am correct. goes to say something about how bad he had become even uncle fester wouldn't bring him up to toronto.
I was pissed when Arizona bragged Keller. But trading back and picking Mcleod was a great move. Shero is building the team in the model of the new NHL. Size and speed down the middle. Speed and goal scoring off the wings.Brown doesn't fit that system. May actually be a blessing Mcleod was the fastest skater in the draft. If you watch the clips his speed opens up ice. And es got great vision is a shifty playmaker. If his biggest knocks are he's too fast and is learning to slow down when he has too. And needs to work on his shot. Im thrilled he has all the things you cant teach and his flaws can be worked on in the devils system. Move Zacha to wing and pair them up and thats a hell of a combo imo . Catching up on their other picks now

WTF are we doing trading for Beau Bennett? A stiff breeze breaks a bone in that china doll

lol i guess they are just hoping that they can wrap him up good and he can put up some decent numbers. he played under hynes and was drafted with shero at the helm so they must know something. not many 3rd rounders pan out anyway.

i will say i wasn't that big on drafting the goalie though that was strange in round 4. wedgewood will probably replace kinkaid next year and he looks pretty solid in his few games. then they went out and drafted blackwood last year in the 2nd round who i believe is the target for franchise goalie with that size.

Aside from drafting a goalie which I'll give them a pass on. He does have exceptional skill for a goalie that play behind an awful defense. But I think they hit that mark with blackwood last year. I loved the draft.

They added A power forward that has speed, can play in tight spaces and has an amazing shot and playmaking ability in Nathan Bastian. He also has chemistry with Mcleod. He played on the same line with Mcleod and Nylander who went at 8. HEs very close with Mcleod his speed is deceptive because of Mcleods speed.

Joey Anderson may be a steal. He played on A line with Keller and Bellows. Gritty wing with speed and great positioning. He tallied seven goals and nine points in just seven games at the World Under-18 Championships.Definitely A star imo

Brandon Gignac
Not big, not strong, just super quick. Sees the on-ice situations and uses his extra gears to push back defenders, and set up his wingers. On the 2nd PP, and has shown he is a nice set-up man. He has a willingness to use his head and feet in building a 200 foot game. Not big not strong but has lots of tools to build on.But I do like his potential after seeing this

Even Cormier still not sure I like choosing A goalie. I think Blackwood is the future. But he does have skills \. And I expect the Devils to loe either wedge or Kinkaid. So its kind of a push for me

Mikhail Maltsev Big Russian centre who has returned from a back injury that put him on the shelf last season. He displays speed, size, skill, soft hands, a strong stride, acceleration, and top gears. Hasn’t shown elite creativity, strong decision making or on-ice vision, but that might develop. Wins the puck and is strong when he has it. He moves well laterally and shield the puck well. You can count on him to plant himself in front the net and using his big body to get opportunities.Could be an exciting pick at this spot his stock dropped from the injury. But he is high skill high reward

Jasper Bratt he's got a heavy shot, speed and creativity. But this is a roll the dice pick. Hoping he's not another Tedenby but at least he was a late pick.He is going to need work but at this spot I don't mind the risk

Egor Rykeov I love this pick. NHL talent imo. Size, heavy shot,he can skate, and has a great hockey IQ. He had a great performance in the WJC. Rykov was one of Russias best defensemen in the tourney

Jeremy Davies

7th round pick Led USHL defensemen in scoring with 49 points in 60 gmames.Power play QB with a lot of potential. Solid late pick

Two very impressive drafts for the Devils under Shero. Im liking the direction he's taking this team. I also don't think he's done. I can see Shero testing the UFA market and or packaging trades. He seems to be building off the Penguins blueprint with a bit of Devils grit. This is the new NHL the Sharks found out speed and skill kills. And we just added a ton of speed and skill. What do you all think?

I was reading devils fans wanting them to get a d man in the draft earlier. I'm fine waiting on d men I think there are plenty in the nhl that could be had. Look at yandle or shaenkirk next year or gogilski.

Yeah could've taken chahyun but we were 30th in goals last year I don't want another d man.

I love the Michael pick love it. He will blow past defenders and get a ton of chances. Haven't seen speed like that on this team since kovy.

Picking his linemate bastian was another safe bet but still I like the size he has and if they can continue together all the better.

I'm really digging the Bennett trade. Played under Hayes and Shero drafted him so they must know something. Face it people wanted yakapov for a third instead we got Bennett. Both have flaws one is producing another is staying healthy. Besides not many third round players pan out so when you get a nhl player for the, all the better

In that goalie video those goals look insanely small wow.

Also sidebar question. You don't see many left handed catching goalies. As a lefty myself what gives? I know Steve mason is one not sure who else. You would ink a left handed catching goalie would give a little edge since players are always facing righties

Very happy with this draft. The guys doing the draft coverage even compared Michael McLeod to Ryan Kesler. I'll take that without question. Fast, gritty, can score goals and can play D while being annoying to play against. A bit of an agitator which can help put us on the PP. Sounds like the type of player who fits this franchise.

I believe Ben Bishop is a lefty. And I agree i didn't want defense. We do have some young talented defensemen and they can be acquired. FA is A lot deeper at defensemen than forward this year. The devils seriously needed Speed, size and talent at center and on the wings. I also like that they got the two top ranked skaters in the OHL and QHL. in Mcleod and Gignac. I'm thrilled they stole Anderson in the 3rd.

I'm assuming the goalie is insurance in case we lose a goalie to expansion or maybe Shero anticipates moving a goalie this year? If Wedgewood and Kinkaid are roughly even, something has to give, there's only one backup position available.

Passing on Logan Brown in favor of McLeod shows that Ray has a very clear vision for what he wants this team to be and that's speed/attack oriented.

Love the first two picks, speed and size, two things this team has severely lacked. I'm glad we went forward heavy. In regards to D, I would like to start drafting more moving forward but keep in mind all of our D are still young and we did pick up that Czech kid last year as a free agent.

Getting Beau Bennett for the 77th pick was a great move for the Devils. He's very good on the forecheck & very intelligent with the puck. He also has a pretty good shooting touch. You will also have a hard time finding a player that puts more effort into every shift than Beau Bennett. If he could stay healthy, I could see him being the Devils' captain one day; not saying that because he was a Penguin, I just believe that he's that type of player. Best of luck to Beau, he did great things for the Pens & we're sorry to see him go.

Bennet was a great pick up. Fills a roster spot has a lot of upside if he stays healthy

@jeffro151 Im glad you have taken an interest in hockey. Would you like to talk about the New Jersey Devils or their draft? What are your thoughts on their draft picks and the direction they went this year. Any input on who they may set their target on or what needs they may fill through free agency?
