Rumor has it that they're going to do something a little bit different, maybe even get back to their roots. Popular rumors are either a WWI game, a Vietnam game or a sequel to 2142. This is supposed to be a brand new, newly developed, game and not just a reskinned version of another (Cough, cough -- Hardline). I have to say, I'd be a lot more excited about the first to than the last....to many titles are going to futuristic sci-fi type shooters. There hasn't been a major WWII game since COD World at War in 2008.

They're doing a live streaming event Friday where the trailer is supposed to drop.

I wish they would have made more Bad Company games.

Bad Company games were OK but they were ultimately just battlefield games that were under a different name. I feel like they used the Bad Company name to develop parts of the game that they later used in the actual BF games; like the destructible environment. I'm not sure why a standard battlefield game wouldn't fill the hole of a bad company game? I thought the BF games were always more polished and had better gameplay than the Bad Company games.

I thought the single player campaigns in the Bad Company games were / are far better than the ones in the Battlefield games. Multiplayer they were identical.

Oh, of course. Battlefield has always basically not given you a single player. I think the first ones to give a true single player were 3, 4 and Hardline. I don't think the single player modes in 1942, Vietnam, 2 and 2142 were anything but the multiplayer with bots. I'm fine with that as someone who only really players the multiplayer modes.

Leaks coming out - WWI confirmed. Set in an alternate WWI universe:

I'm going to pee myself. I'm so excited about this. The "alternate universe" seems interesting because it allows for some manipulation of weapons/vehicles and such. I cannot wait to see what they've come up with. Live stream is at 4pm ET today and there should be a lot more news/images.

And here it is and it looks amazing. It's looks at little steampunk but it's WWI and it's awesome. The pro-planes always worked better in the game and I can't wait to get into one of those puppies -- especially the rear gunner seat!

Flamethrowers, trenches, tanks, prop planes, Zeppelins! and fucking HORSES!

And based on some of the trailer, it looks like they might finally bring back some naval warfare. I can only hope. If they did that I might not play another game for 3 years. That's been missing in every game since 1942.

Can't wait! Anything would be an upgrade from Hardline.

Anything other than modern combat would have been an upgrade to the games being produced for the last 10 years. It got old after Modern Warfare 2/BF3. And while I loved BF4, it got stale faster because it was basically a more refined version of BF3. Hopefully this kicks off an era of developers doing something different, especially after the huge outcry against the new COD game. It currently has 240,000 likes to 971,000 dislikes on YouTube. That has to send a message to developers that people are tired of it.

I understand some people liking futuristic games -- I don't understand people who want all games to be the same thing. If you want futuristic, buy Halo or COD. I'm glad someone finally broke the mold of going to futuristic so they can be lazy with gun and map design. I love that BF is going to attempt to recreate actual things that happened and make them playable by video game. And especially that they're doing it with a war that no major game has ever tried to replicate. It worked well in 1942 and has since just been lost. Making a 2143 game would have been lazy, easy and boring.

WW1 should be awesome and I'm definitely getting this. I would instantly snag up a next gen WW2 game given the opportunity too. I'm already burnt out on the futuristic stuff.

It's pretty ridiculous that companies have literally been producing the same game over and over again for the last 8-10 years. It's a shame there hasn't been a single good WWII game on the next-gen consoles. Even a COD game like World and War would be a welcome change.

Not only that but they gear the maps towards running and gunning with SMGs or assault rifles at close range. Even when they do make a "large level" they put so much crap in the level that no matter what it's short range combat which again puts the people who run and gun at an advantage. The last great COD game that had long, medium, and short range maps where using larger machine guns and snipers actually made sense was World at War. I didn't even like it when Halo added jet packs and COD was even less fun to play when they added those.

Yup. I bought the new COD just to see if I would like it, and it's all small maps that are geared towards one type of gameplay. I don't even understand why sniper rifles are in the game anymore. There was a little use for them in CoD MW2 but the last balanced version was world at war. Games have to have a diversity of game play or else they get stale far too fast. I also think older games lead to more balanced gameplay because they have to use certain older style weapons that have limitations. Prop planes, for instance, work so much better in a video game than jets because they're slower. Machine guns, like the Thompson, have natural benefits and limitations when compared to something like the German counterpart the Mp40 -- unlike modern rifles that are all basically the same and built off Nato rounds, like the .223, and are all basically M16-like to the point where they can even use the same magazines. So things need to be made up for them to work and be different in game.

Either way, I'm super excited about this WWI game. Many of the same guns were used in WWI that were used in WWII but I think the tank/planes will be extra cool to use.

So at E3 we got a good hour's worth of Battlefield 1 gameplay. Man, it looks just fantastic. The air battles look really fun and the gunner seat finally looks to be crucial in air combat. It was good enough that I pre-ordered the deluxe edition. The tanks look fun as well, a bunch of different gunners working together on each side -- no pointless machine gun for the secondary gunners. I'm so pumped for this game:

I wish they'd get back to making the campaigns awesome. Battlefield 4 was short af. Online play is dumb. I'm an oldschooler...I just want a game that takes a while to beat. I think I beat BF4 in like 4 days er some shit?

Battlefield has never had a real campaign. I think BF3 was the first to do an actual story. They've all been really bad and buggy.
