$6.5M to be exact. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if we just carry it forward to next season. We'll only have about $5M after the rookies considering the extra 3rd we nabbed and the trade up in the 2nd. So CAP wise Lynch is basically a trade for our draft class.

The retirement was officially completed before June 1st, so that means that the entire dead money cap hit will be taken this year and not next.

Schneider stated that this was the plan in an interview last week. He does not want to carry over any of the dead money into the 2017 season.

"Earlier this morning on Sports Radio KJR, John Schneider revealed to Mitch Levy a little more insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the Marshawn Lynch retirement. Per Schneider, the Seahawks do not want to let Lynch's dead money affect the team's cap health in 2017. So, when Seahawks file retirement papers for Lynch (or place him on the Reserve-Retired list) before June 1st, the move will open up $6.5M in cap space. Currently, Lynch is still on the books.

All of Lynch's remaining signing bonus ($5M) will accelerate into 2016 and the Seahawks will be hit with a $5M dead money charge."

That is a possible route. Harold was also suggesting that the Baldwin extension might be coming with this money.

Anyone putting merit on these rumors about Lynch second guessing his retirement?

they're talking about it right now on B&S. From all indications, the guy did pretty much nothing in the off-season to prepare to play football. The team has clearly carried on with personnel decisions that match up with not having Lynch on the team, so I think he's done in Seattle even if he wants to play. I thought for the last 2 years he was here that he would end his career as a Raider; only way that happens though is if he's released by the Hawks (or traded).

Not really... If so, he won't be a Hawk... I always thought he'd play a year with the Raiders personally so that honestly wouldn't surprise me...

I feel like the Seahawks have moved on from Lynch. They have made plans and drafted players, not sure they would be excited about Lynch coming back. As for what Lynch is thinking, hard to tell.

Yah. Rawls played extremely well and per Carroll/Schneider is expected to be ready for the season.

Even without Rawls, Michael really picked up the slack and averaged nearly 5 yards a carry. Then you have Prosise for our 3rd down back who is a great receiver and burst runner (reminds me of a Vareen, Woodhead type player with a bit more upside given time he spent running...). We'll see how Prosise does but he had a heck of a line blocking for him at Notre Dame.

Lastly, you got Collins... who really should've been a 3rd round pick or early 4th. Not sure why he slid but he'll be great competition and it wouldn't surprise me if we go into the season with all 4 backs on the roster.

Lynch is a once in a decade type runner... his physicality and ability to create space with less than a yard... *ahem* foot of room was incredible. That said, just time to move on. Sucks, but just is what it is. Yah the guy never had that many regular season carries but the constant playoff appearance that Seattle had also takes a toll on your body... including the playoffs, he was averaging 350+ carries the 3 seasons he played all 16 reg. season games. And we all know playoffs bring a different intensity to the game.

Rawls is still unproven if he can handle a full season as the #1 guy but he did prove he has the skill to do so.

My Question is this, If Lynch returns where do you think he will play? I say Oakland just because it's home for him. I also Believe Lynch on Oaklands team should make them the Fav to win the AFC West. With Oakland packing their bags for a move they will lose a lot of support but Lynch would put a lot of butts in those seats.

If the Hawks decide to release him, it sure does seem like Oakland is the logical fit... but what does Lynch really have left in the tank? He played about half the season last year and had a grand total of 1 good game. He was largely ineffective when he was out there. Maybe he was nursing an injury, but maybe he's just lost too much off of what he was a few years ago. There also appears to be zero evidence that Lynch has done anything this off-season to prepare to play football. How long would it take him to get to that point with a brand new team? Just really hard to see him being a better than average RB again at this point.

Oh i agree but i think he would still have those "beast mode" type runs and that really fires up teams. He never got into a groove last season and one thing we know is he needs to get into those grooves. He has always been a streaky type runner and he never was healthy long enough to get on a streak. As far as the Hawks releasing him. If he decided to not retire the Hawks would release him with out even thinking about it. They loved his production but they started moving on last season and can not afford his salary.

Explore the trade option to see if anyone wants him to see if they can get a 4th or 5th rounder. Chances are probably low so probably he gets his release.

Lynch Confirms Retirement in Sports Illustrated, 60 Minutes Interview

Apparently Lynch did an interview with Sports Illustrated/60 Minutes where he undeniably confirmed his retirement. I don't think he would have gone out of his way to say it (in an official interview, no less), if he was planning on coming back under the "right" circumstances (a trade to Oakland). He could always change his mind later and his agent (as agents do) left open the possibility of a comeback, but I don't think he's gonna pull a Favre.

I agree with you as well. Lynch's body has taken tremendous amount of punishment over the last several years and I think he realizes his body won't hold up for another season.
