Some are speculating it is because of cheating. We will probably find out soon enough. I would expect the staff and Reavis to fight this one to the end if it isn't a criminal matter.

If it is cheating... mixed feelings about having him stay or fighting to keep him. If we're going to take the moral/program high-road, we can't be fighting to keep cheaters and ask for sanctions against UNCheat.

But, anyway you slice it, it sucks for us.

But shouldn't the situation be judged differently if it is CJ that was cheating vs. the University cheating? I believe in second chances....perhaps this was not CJ's first offense.

It's either not his first offense or some big time cheating. Otherwise I wouldn't think he'd be totally kicked out of school. I knew of a guy that got busted for cheating on an engineering test and the most he got was a double weight zero so I would think it must be worse than that. Who knows though. I never dealt with honor courts or had any close friends that knew of their dealings on how they operate. I haven't read anything substanial rumors as to what CJ got charged with other than people suspect some form of cheating. However, I have seen a couple places that the team and coaches were aware of what happened and don't intend to stick up for him (whatever that means). The gist of all this is, his appeal is probably gonna go nowhere we shouldn't expect him to be back at VT. Damn shame

So Revis lost his appeal today. He gone. Andy Bitter's twitter feed has some quotes and stuff. Reavis' lawyer sounds super pissed. Granted its a lawyer and they always trumpet their client, but he seems to indicate whatever the issue is, its really something trivial and not even close to being worthy of expulsion. Frustratingly, no one has said what that issue is yet.

Also, there's some rumblings that LB Melvin Keihn is leaving the program

Yeah, the Keihn transfer has been announced. Rumor is it is somehow related to the Reavis case... something about him being a rat.

LB Dahman McKinnon is back with the team.

K Carson Wise has left (no shocker since Slye is pretty much our guy).

Not official but its looking like Holland Fisher has flunked out. Geez man. Can we please get some top rated recruits to pan out? Seems like unless your name is Fuller, some shit always happens

Trey Edmunds transferring to Maryland to play out his final year. Announcers everywhere are scrambling to replace their anecdotes about "3 brothers playing on the same team"

OL Austin Clark has quit the team. Supposedly he's still staying at Tech as a student. That's a bummer. We need all the OL we can get

As a fan I was sad to see him go. I think it was a good move for him career wise. He was getting a pay cut, staying in the same role, and still under Bud where he couldn't move up. I think going to Florida will put him in a better position for a D coordinator position quicker. Definitely sad to see him leave though.

I was referring more to the fact that Fuente had Gray wait until after all of the recruits had signed before making the announcement.

The part we do not know is if the program let the recruits know prior to or on NSD that Gray was leaving. If they did not, then I would say that most on this board may not agree with that decision.

I personally think that NSD needs to be revamped to:
  • Help signees account for new coaching moves (within a certain threshold of days)
  • Help recruits no longer commit via fax machine / make it easier
  • Allow NCAA provide some level of training / awareness to recruits and their family on what is acceptable during the recruiting process and have multiple signing periods (all are binding). That way those that want to end the recruiting process early can do so, and have the flexibility to change their decision given new coaching moves within a program

I agree with all of this 'zete. Thing is..the coaches would learn to work around it. There is somewhat of a gentleman's rule in place with the coaches currently. And that is... do not announce until after the papers are in. If the kids are given say a month after their announcement (if said coach leaves), then the coaches will just start waiting until that point. Even bigger is what coach are we talking about? Head coach? Position coach? Coordinator? Primary Recruiter? There could be alot of gray area there.

Bottom line is that the kids need to commit to the school..not necessarily the coaches per se. I think I read something awhile back that stated that a recruit will only play for the same head coach (over the course of the entire 4-5 years) about 20% of the time or something like that.

Kalvin Cline is transferring to Texas A&M.

Bummer. I liked him and thought he could be a real asset for us since he's finally healthy
