St. Louis Blues Ongoing Buzz Thread

Shit! I thought the Cardinals forum was quiet! This is ridiculous!

St. Louis Blues fans- I know you're out there. And even though I might catch flack from St. Louisans that love baseball uber alles, I think Blues fans might be the most connected, passionate, knowledgeable sports fans in the Gateway City. Our team has provided a lot of thrills over 45 years, yet it hasn't been in the Stanley Cup finals since its early days (Montreal in the inaugural season, Boston Bruins in 1970, and the results weren't pretty).

I'd love to talk about where the team stands now, because I think you have to go back to the days of Hull & Oates to remember a Blues team that was this exciting with this much potential. The Blues won the home opener against Nashville and won by a touchdown against the Florida Panthers. Halak pitched a shutout that night and looked pretty solid against Nashville as well. Pietrangelo is here to stay, which can only be a good thing in my opinion. We've brought in some Dallas Stars/Ken Hitchcock alumni: Brendan Morrow provides this team with experience, even more grit, and another 20 goals or so potentially, while Brett Hull now reports to duty in the front office after lighting up the lamp over 500 times in St. Louis and winning the Stanley Cup in Dallas and Detroit. The addition of Derek Roy is a plus as well- more leadership and more grit to get the most out of the skilled young players we have. And FWIW, Halak seems to be in better shape than he's been since he's worn the Blue Note.

Apparently The Hockey News thinks the Blues are in good shape- they have St. Louis penciled in for the Stanley Cup. Even in some of the Blues' best days during the 1980s and 1990s, I cannot think of a time when the team seemed to have so much going for it. It's going to be a long season, especially since last season was strike-shortened, but I think it's going to be fun here in St. Louis.
