Because they want Love to hover behind the 3pts line and stretch the floor.

He can do it in spurts. But, that isn't his game.

Melo would be ecstatic to fill that role.

Mecca -- you are right.

Love is getting a ton of open jump shots. He makes quite a few.

BUT ... if you gave Melo those same shots -- he would be an assassin. He'd shoot better than Love.

Defense matchup would be different -- I'm not sold on Melo.

Also, Love is younger.

But Melo would be a better spot-up shooter.

Melo is all offense, no defense, is not a leader and is not a winner. He is also exactly what James Harden is turning into.

Cavs need to do something though, as currently constructed they aren't good enough to get past the Spurs or Warriors.

I'm not sure that even adding Melo would help them get past the Warriors or the Spurs. Both of those teams play really good team defense AND they both also require the opposing team defend them as well. Melo at the 4 would mean having Dray on him on defense.

Adding Melo wouldn't be the solution but he would be a definite upgrade offensively over Love

Melo is just a much more versatile scorer. Love is shooting a good percentage from 3 but he has also missed a lot of open looks as well. I think Melo would shoot at least 40-42 % from 3 given the same looks.

He'd help the most with the 2nd team. When Lebron gets his rest Lue could depend on Melo to carry the 2nd team whereas with Love you don't have that same option.

Melo also doesn't lose confidence in his shot if he misses his first few. I've noticed that Love can become hesitant to pull the trigger if he misses a few in a row. Cleveland's offense seems to be predicated on creating those open looks and capitalizing on it. Sometimes you need to keep your head in the game and trust that you can make the shot.

I hope this happens and a team with Bron and Melo would still get spanked by the Warriors in a series.

Can't say they would be better. Melo must have the ball in his hands. While Love is not great without the ball either, he fits better than Melo.

I don't see how Melo helps the Cavs at all. The trade that makes the most sense is a fake one Bill Simmons actually came up with:

Again, its fake and there's no discussion of it but it really is the best for everyone involved. Boston gets a star. Clippers get Melo who works better with Paul, Redick, and Jordan than Griffin does. NY unloads Melo's salary for loads of cap space and gets the Nets pick (at least Top 5) to build around Porzingis

cot damn....what kind of shit are you smokin', dude??

Really? I actually understand team dynamics and how the game works. Anthony might be the best scorer in the game, but like another poster said, he is horribly overrated for the same reason Harden is.

Love is willing to defer to James and Irving. Regardless of who The better player is, Love helps the team dynamic because he is willing to defer. This is not a video game. If Irving, James and Melo simply take turns going Iso, it is not going to make the team better. It might even make them worse, because Melo is less efficient than James.

I agree that Melo would make a lot more sense in LA. They have Jordan to cover up for His defensive inadaquacy and Melo will spread the floor better.

See Yoga? This is a deal that would actually make sense.

^^^THIS^^^

You basically would be trading an offensive player who may pout a little about his role, but will still defer and play no defense for an offensive player who will demand the ball, stop it from moving when he gets it and play no defense.

Anthony might be the most overrated player in the history of the league. That is saying something.

1. Kevin Love's 3pt shooting is better than Melo's, this year and for their careers(on more attempts).
2. Melo isn't just a standstill 3pt shooter either, he likes to attack the basket and shoot mid range shots.
3. Who wouldn't be ecstatic to go from being on a shitty team to being asked to shoot 3's on a team that is probably going to the finals?

Melo is breaking down, if you haven't noticed.

How much longer will he be attacking the basket?

It wouldn't. But, t hey are desperate.

Making the Finals is not enough when you have the Yankees payroll.

This is why it is a TERRIBLE idea. Having Melo jack up shots when you have LeBron is a welcome sight to any team playing them. If I were the Cav's I would look into every fantastic 3 point shooter out there...they have two great one on one players that can draw double teams, add a couple of 3 point snipers and have a field day. How did Steve Kerr like playing with MJ? Kerr ain't Melo, but he has more rings...

Exactly right. You need shooting around a dynamic playmaker like LeBron. Not ball stoppers.

If Melo goes to Cleveland, poor Lue, I can only imagine the bottles of Tylenol he would have to keep with him with that roster.
