NASCAR’s New Charter System Explained

Explaining NASCAR's new charter system

To me, it comes across as the rich getting richer. NASCAR protecting it's money, which in their defense is a solid business move. As a purist, I think it sucks balls. Another "good ole boy" system. Why did Rob Kauffman get 2 charters for teams that he already shut down? I don't give a fuck that he met the criteria set forth by NASCAR and him. That's right, this is his baby. He spear headed this project after failing miserably with Michael Waltrip Racing. He was never planning on fielding a team this year, so why did he get 2 charters. Something stinks in the state of Denmark. Meanwhile the Wood Brothers, who have been in racing for 60 fucking years got left out, even though they plan on running a full schedule this year. I think it sucks.

And the starting field has been reduced to 40 cars. 36 charter members and four "open" members. The whole thing stinks. Nothing but an insurance policy for the big money. They are absolutely guaranteed to be in every race, no matter what. I'm pulling for the fucking Wood Bothers from now on. Fuck Nascar and this Kauffman prick.

Honestly I don't care either way about the charter system. Yeah, the ones that have charters are now guaranteedto make the race, but when was the last time those with the charters actually did miss a race? I do like that the field is being reduced to 40 cars. Less field fillers and start and parks.

As a fan, you should see no real difference. This is more about the team owners getting a fairer share of the revenue (TV contracts, etc) that NASCAR and the France family has been hording for years. Imagine if MLB, NFL, or the NBA never paid profits to its franchises, that's essentially is what NASCAR has been doing. Now the teams get a bigger profit share. And they should. They are the ones doing the work.

I hate it, but I do like seeing nascar having to give up more coin.

Seems the better way for nascar to give up more coin would be to increase the race payouts. It was also give teams more incentive for wins that they seem to believe they need to make dumb rules to make happen.
