Why can't the NFL be like baseball and resume games under protest

Are you suggesting that NE and Buffalo get together to play the last 2 seconds?

It appears that way... Manuel and or Taylor might have been able to throw it into the end zone... even though Taylor hurt his shoulder he still could throw.

....and there is the reason that it doesn't happen.

MLB plays so many games and all of its opponents numerous times every year. Redoing an inning or two of baseball is not that hard to do.

Redoing an NFL game is a logistical nightmare.

And if you look at the games that MLB has actually trotted out and redone because of protest, the list is few and far between.

Games under protest in the NFL is silly and unnecessary. Even in the case that is given here in the Buffalo game where the refs made the wrong call, they wouldn't redo the rest of the game. The only time MLB redoes part of a game is when the umpires make an incorrect call based on the wrong interpretation of the rule book....not because they missed an out call.

In my lifetime I don't remember a case where a ref made the wrong call based on the misreading of the NFL rule book.

You'd never get the team to come back and play 2 seconds. Never.

Remember the "fail mary" game? The refs could barely get the Packers to come back out for the extra point try and those guys were still in the building.

Super Bowl 40. Illegal block below the waist.

Super Bowl 40. Illegal block below the waist.

That was a blown call not a misinterpretation of the rules.

It is illegal for either side to hit a player without the football below the waist on a change of possession. The call was made because somehow the ref didn't realize the guy that Hassellback had hit below the waist was the ball carrier (IIRC at least...he was essentially called for tackling the guy if my memory serves me).

If Hasselback had taken out a lead blocker by hitting him below the waist, it's an illegal block below the waist even if at that point Hasselback is technically on defense.

Same rule comes into play on kickoffs. It's why you never see wall busters on kick off returns submarining the blockers.
