I've played out BF4, Destiny was OK through two DLCs but quickly lost my interest and I've been playing basically nothing lately for the past few months. I was waiting for Battlefront to come out but that's getting average reviews and it getting dinged on longevity. I don't know what to do. I'm considering going back to COD and getting BO3 just because I need something to play and I know that will be at least remotely interesting. Fallout 4 looks good but I'm really not into single player games. It's really unfortunate that Battlefront didn't hit a home run because I was banking on playing that for a while. I was hoping for Battlefield + Star Wars and it's not anywhere close.

Metal Gear Solid 5 has online matchmaking and a kickass single player portion.

BLOPS3, Bloodborne, Taken King and Halo are the multiplayer games atm to my knowledge.

Taken King is much better than original Destiny but its balance patch isnt coming in until December and one of the new subclasses they made is super scrubby. Not going to try and sell you on that, though.

It's exactly Battlefield + Star Wars, just lacking in content tbh. Beautiful game visually and sound wise and it's fun for a some matches everyday but not something you can sink hours into like Battlefield.

The new cod is good especially if you like zombies. Fallout 4 is sastisfying but a different type of game than BF so not sure if you'd like it. Halo is halo. NHL and FIFA are the only sports games worth playing. Tomb raider has gotten the best reviews.

Plenty of games just get out of moms basement and take a gander.

Have to explain everything to these michigan men

I purchased Battlefront a few days back. Played it for about 5 hours so far and it's basically what you said, Battlefield only with Star Wars shit. I'm enjoying it more than Battlefield however. I've seen the reviews and I guess I don't know what a lot of these reviewers were expecting out of this game. Most of them are complaining about it being just another bland FPS only with Star Wars stuff or they're saying that it gets repetitive. Well, that's pretty much every shooter that has come out over the course of the last five years. That's just how these games are now. On top of that it's an EA game. If you're know what to expect out of this, it's fine. I'm sure I'll be playing it plenty.

Given your criteria and without repeating some of the other suggestions in this thread I'd recommend The Last of Us ( if you have a PS4) and Rocket League. The Last of Us has an amazing single player campaign and some of the best multiplayer I've experienced in a long time. Only problem is a lot of the people still playing it are ridiculously good. Rocket League is not on the Xbone, but if you have a PC or a PS4 it'll only cost you $15 or so. There's always GTA 5 as well.

Also if you have a PC the Steam winter sale is coming around in a few weeks and they'll basically be giving games away. There will be plenty to choose from there.

Battlefront 2 was repetitive as well, if you played that consistently then you should probably like it. Although I have not played the new Battlefront.

I really only have an xbox one, no PS4 or gaming PC.

I went ahead and just purchased Battlefront and while the gameplay is similar to Battlefield it's laking the depth of battlefield. No weapons upgrades, no vehicle upgrades, no sidearms and no real system for keeping people interested. You're either playing specifically for the gameplay or you're not playing. Part of the fun in games like COD and Battlefield is spending time doing something you normally wouldn't do to unlock a weapon that you want. In Battlefront, you essentially just have to make the level and have the money (which based on a little bit of play wasn't much).

The unlimited ammo is just wrong IMO. It makes it way too easy to kill people. With no upgrades I was joining maps and getting like 2nd best score on the team immediately. That shouldn't be able to happen. It's essentially who can point and hold the trigger down first. The weapons are far too accurate.

Graphics are neat, maps are neat and some of the vehicles are neat. But there's just something missing. I don't want vehicles to be kill streak bonuses, I want them to respawn like they do in BF.

Yeah, seems that way -- and I didn't buy Hardline because it lacked depth. Seems that Battlefront is guilty of that as well. But I bought this anyway just because I needed something. I also asked my wife for Fallout 4 and BOIII for Xmas so I'll probably just end up playing this through quickly and then spending time on some other games -- hoping that BF 5 is announced soon.

If you're into sports games at all NBA2k16 is fun. Also would have recommended BLOPS3 over Battlefront. I used to love playing the old SW battlefront games and I get that they wanted to be true to them, but after playing the beta it just didn't seem like it aged well. Whereas in BLOPS I just finished a surprisingly long and fun campaign( great action, shitty storyline) and am about to head to multiplayer. BLOPS are the best of the recent COD series and it's not even close.

Also, Clash of clans on your phone, only app that I want to play over my console.

I guess I never really got into the ranking up aspect of games like this. COD started losing my interested when they went to the prestige system and having to unlock everything. I'd rather everybody start out with the same shit and have some power weapons on the map like in Gears or Halo 2/3. That, or have preset classes that you can rank up in within each match like COD 2/3. That just doesn't happen anymore though, always some sort of ranking up system involved.

I haven't felt much difference with the "unlimited" ammo. Seems like you just overheat instead of run out of bullets. Also enjoying the fact that I can just pick this up and finish top 2 or 3 without having to play for several hours first to unlock a useful weapon. I definitely agree that it can come down to who holds the trigger down first a lot of the time, but that's how most of these reflex based shooters are ( COD, Battlefield, SWAT mode in Halo, etc). Gotta go for standard games of Halo, Gears, Last of Us, etc for more precision based shooting.

Are vehicles kill streak bonuses? I still haven't sunk more than 8 hours into this game yet but I thought there were just power ups on the ground that re-spawned at certain locations around the map.

The point being, if I'm already getting 2nd or 3rd best in the match when I'm just starting -- where's the room to improve? Shooters aren't supposed to be this easy. In any game you should be worse than people who've been playing the game for longer. The major difference between this game and other shooters (in terms of trigger holding) is that the guns are so accurate you can essentially snipe someone off without even needing to aim the gun. You can usually hip fire with tremendous accuracy. If you do that in any other game your rounds go everywhere and the guns aren't even remotely accurate unless you're aiming. So there is more to it than just turning the corning and holding the trigger first in other games. In BF specifically they even engineered bullet drop into the equation. So at longer distances you have to hold higher above the target to hit them.

Honestly just play some old games. I haven't been impressed with this gen at all. Most of the best games are reboots or safe sequels.

Depends on the complexity of the game I think. Shooters like this are all muscle memory and reflexes. Somebody who has played Battlefield before is going to jump into this game fine since it is just a Star Wars themed Battlefield. Same general mechanics and feel. Same could be said for jumping between any of these military shooters like Titanfall, COD, Killzone, etc.

I'll agree that Battlefield doesn't have as much spraying just because of the huge maps and vehicles, but these new COD games have tons of tiny maps as well as perks that are designed to make it easier to just spray and hip fire. There were maps on MW2 where you could dominate without ever aiming down the sight.

This is true for the most part, but there are some gems out there with actual original story and game play.

Any examples?

I'm finding things are either underdeveloped because too much time was spent on online servers and graphics or things are underfunded with crowdsourced games with great ideas but lackluster execution.

You playing on PC, PS4, or XBone? And you're talking just games that have come out this generation correct?

EASHL is really fun in NHL 16. I think the game mode works a lot better than FIFA because there are fewer moving parts.

I mostly play on PS4. Id need to get a new computer to get something that matches my PS4 and that seems redundant to a certain degree.

Sports games, Racing Games, Fighting games and First person shooters seem to have been coasting for 2 generations now.

Lots of subgenres don't seem to really exist anymore or are slow to come out on PS4. Apparently realistic club racer is the only type of car game now. Twisted Metal type games, Road Rash type games, FZero/Wipeout type games, Destruction Derby type games, Rock and Roll Racing type games.

RPGs seem to have been replaced by MMOs which means storytelling and characters take a back seat to grinding and longevity. The only JRPGs still around are the Tales series and those are junk.

No Mechwarrior or Virtua On giant robot Gundam fighting games like Zone of the Enders. I guess Titanfall sort of counts but that was basically a PVP demo with pretty graphics and no content.

No side scrolling beat em ups. Diablo 3 isnt nearly as entertaining as something like Dragon's Crown.

No NBA Jam or NBA Street or Mutant League Football. Someone was trying to sell me on Blood Bowl 2 but the first one was really dull.

I'm playing Bloodborne and it seems good. Im just not convinced that there are 'all these great games out right now' which seems to be the general mood of gamers. Lots of safe sequels and not any new stuff, nerdy stuff or old school stuff with a budget.
