I don't have a problem with the relief pitchers used in the last 4 innings. My problem is why didn't those guys do the same yesterday. Banister should have pulled Perez after 5 and felt fortunate that he had only given up 2 runs. Then bring in the good bullpen guys to try to keep it close and give our offense a shot at coming back. That is what I didn't understand. Why send Perez back out and then bring in Chi Chi in a close game?

I think you bring in Cheech to start the inning or use a seasoned winning piece to close that inning out to keep it at 2-0. We had hope for Dutch and Perez to perform at a high level but it was only hope. I do think we have a good shot to advance with Hamels and maybe advance again but we are going to have to get hot with a few bats and Perez cruise through an outing. They have better stuff then Colby but not between the ears at this point. If Colby did not start against Jays then when does he? I am only catching bits mad pieces due to work schedule. MLB did Ranger fans no favors with the schedule.

Also, MLB playoff experience is not to be discounted with out pitchers. Let them pitch. They will be fine Wednesday.

I understood Banny's reasons with the matchups, but the downside is that guys are pitching with an unusually high number of days of rest. It is too bad that we couldn't have settled the race a few days before the end of the season so we could have lined up our starters as we would use them.

If by some small miracle we score enough runs to win Wednesday then it will be interesting to see how the rotation works out in the next series.

I would have left Chi Chi to work in games that are out of reach or for an emergency.

The past 4 games are over. What's done is done. You can't change them. All you can do is learn from them and move on.

I still think the Rangers have a real shot at this. People predicted the Rangers would get their brains bashed in, but here they are still kicking. If they don't win, hey man, it was a great season when everyone counted them out.

I think this playoff run is accelerating the development of the young players, which is a very good thing for the future.

I have every bit of confidence in Cole Hamels to pitch a great game on Wednesday.

And, the Rangers do tend to hit fastball pitchers better than the soft junk tossers like Weaver and Dickey. But we absolutely HAVE to have at least 2 out of Fielder/Moreland/Napoli/Hamilton/Elvis show up with monster days at the plate. Beltre, Odor, and Choo have done their part already and, I suspect, will do so again on Wednesday. But those other guys have given us absolutely nothing through 4 games.

But more than anything else, I think we need DDJ to have a great game. The team just seems to respond and perform better when he starts off the game with a base hit or walk. We need him on base so that it's Choo and Beltre with the RBI chances. Too often it's Choo and Beltre getting on base, leaving Prince, Mitch, and Josh with the RBI chances. And lately that hasn't been working out too well.

I would disagree in that at least a pitcher's wins are a positive outcome. Seeing more pitches is not necessarily a positive outcome and yet it is often viewed that way.

The disparity between Chris Carter and Prince Fielder as shown in the article is not going to happen when looking at number of wins for a pitcher. That is, Carter being best in the category in question while Prince is close to the bottom yet Prince had a much better year. Pitchers in the bottom 5 in wins are not going to be better than someone at the top of the wins list.

The narrow variance talked about in the article doesn't happen in win totals either.

That is not saying win totals are vital at all, but they don't appear to be as meaningless as pitches per plate appearance.
Colby had 17 wins this year. It tells you nothing about a pitchers ability.

Seeing more pitches may not lead to winning because any number of endless variables, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

Interesting Gallardo isn't starting. He absolutely owns my Jays. Hamels is an overall better pitcher, and did a nice job in Game 2, but I almost expected Gallardo considering his domination this year. I also expected Price in Game 5 so shows what I know.

I'm worried as a Jays fan...Rangers have a few sleeping giants that are due to wake up in their lineup. They have brought Price back down to Earth and Stroman is a hard thrower too. Almost wish we had Buerhle starting lol

all i know is that Holland would not have come out for the 2nd if i had been manager. that was the most pitiful excuse of a pitcher i've seen in a long time

If I'm a Jays fan I'd be more than unhappy with how Price was utilized. This move made little sense to me.

And if you're putting Prince Fielder in the sleeping giant category, he's really been in more of a coma than taking a nap.

Many on this board want Colby back next year so he must be doing something right. Many tend to rank him among pitchers closer to where his win total ranks him than where his ERA ranks him.

I think paying much attention to either stat is flawed. In trying to compare which is less relevant it is kind of like trying to decide which of two very ugly girls is the ugliest. It doesn't matter which is chosen the other is still ugly and I wouldn't want to date either of them.

I think they realize that we have Price's number and he is just not that great against us comparatively speaking.

I agree about Prince. I had completely changed my opinion of Prince this year and did so very early on. After his prolonged slumps and his comatose state in the postseason I think I am pretty close to completely reversing courses in my opinion of him again.

I just didn't understand why they didn't let Dickey get the win, after all they had a 6 run lead, and he only needed one more out. To burn up Price and deny Dickey just made no sense to me.

He's got exactly one game to redeem himself IMO. If we win and Prince is a no-show, his ass has gotta get pine time moving forward. If we lose, he'll get a lot of the blame.

No matter how many more games we play this postseason this offense has to be fixed in the offseason. We are prone to too many and too prolonged slumps.

If not fixed today, there won't be any postseason.

I was livid when I saw them put Price in. Gibbons is not that bright, but he seemed to even outdo himself.

But seeing Texas get the best of him yet again, it might have been a good idea to get his innings out of the way. The Rangers have figured him out.

Anyone watching the Cubs/Cards?

Did Justin Grimm ever look like this when he was with us?

No, but then we had him start mostly and we had him when he was younger. As fans we tend to give up on young pitchers way too early. I remember some on the ESPN board were so glad to see him leave because just like most fans they couldn't understand that sometimes it takes awhile for young pitchers to develop.

I wouldn't mind having him and Edwards back now. I hated that trade when we made it because we needed offense at the time more than pitching and Garza was not going to make a difference.
