Lots of doves south of Spokane still but I'm too cheap to buy our Migratory Bird Permit. I took the dog out for grouse instead on Sunday. My buddy and I ended up with 5, 4 ruffs and a blue.

Grouse are hard birds to hunt, no?

They can be. They have a knack for knowing when to flush at exactly the wrong time. They live in the thickest, wettest, nastiest swamps. It is common to flush twice as many as you actually see, and to actually get a shot at half of what you flush. A good dog helps and since i've been taking my lab, Boomer, my bird rate has really increased.

It also helps at the start of the season, as there are younger birds that aren't as smart.

I was checking on my boy and his friends last night while they were dove hunting and just driving down the road into the windmill they were hunting saw four coveys of Bob's, 20-25 birds in each. The man child and three of his buddies got limits of Doves.

I'm so fired up for quail season I can't describe it.

I have not been hunting yet, but shrimping season opened yesterday and we went out. Took a little while and had to grind it out, but we managed to "cooler." That would be a 48 qt cooler of shrimp, with heads on. That's the limit. They were pretty good size, I'd call them medium shrimp. Going back out a few more times next week and try to load the freezer full.

Well, if you ever make it this way, I can certainly hook you up. And this time of year, it's fresh shrimp! After November, when the season ends, they'll be freshly frozen. Put 20 lbs in the freezer last night.

Been shrimpin Fri, Sat, Sun, and tonight. We coolered the first 3 nights and got blanked tonight. All totaled we have caught 65 lbs. Gonna take a break until next Monday at this point. We need some rest. Getting home after midnight and waking up at 6 am for 3 days straight, wears on you.

Got to hunt with my older brother Tuesday night. He has not hunted in years but boy can he shoot. We have a bunch of new birds in from Kansas so it was hot shooting. Saw several nice coveys of Quail and a group of about thirty wild hogs.

Nice Neb!

We're a few weeks out so it's time to ramp up Whip's training.

I got the new Garmin Alpha collar and it's amazing!

Man, blow them hogs to hell.
I hired a kid that was over in the desert for several tours that needs some space from society. He is staying on the river camp and he is going to be the official hog terminator. Them hogs eat Quail eggs.

Well, I wish I had a pic to throw up of a dead elk, but I don't. I didn't get out as much as I was planning but still had chances. The wife went into labor on opening day and we had our second child at 5:30 pm that day. I managed to get out 3 full days to chase them, and missed a 61 yard shot on a spike. Standing broadside on the rim of a canyon, I hit barbed wire that deflected my arrow to god knows where , that one hurt.
