Lol so he was a bad actor because he didn't argue his wardrobe? The guy is a strung out heroin addict the attire made sense.

He had by far the toughest role to portray in the pilot and if you don't see that idk what to tell you. He nailed playing a addict currently high and did so without any character development to play off of as it was the first episode.
I agree he's a good actor, and he looked the scuzzy part too well.

Well enough I near instantly disliked him and want nothing to do with him, and wanted to see him die in a crazy gruesome manner right away.

The shirt part was tongue in cheek. I guess I should have separated that into it's own stanza.

The Chaplin part, though, I will stand behind. All he needed was a cane to twirl and he would have been perfect.

I don't think it will get good until society starts really falling apart. When it gets to a "wild west" type of stage with more lawlessness then it will start to really heat up.

I liked Frank Dillane and what he did with his character, but maybe that's because I'm too young to have seen Chaplin? Lol.

I don't care what they say, I am 99% sure that someway, somehow, a character from this show will appear on TWD in the future. Anyway, this review pretty much sums up my feeling about the pilot.

Way to slow for a first episode. It has potential to be good but I actually fast forwarded it in a few parts which is not good for right out of the gate.

The part that scares me more than the zombies is the thought that we might have to endure way to long scenes watching the annoying junkie going through withdrawals. That douche actually makes me want to see Carl acting like a whiny little bitch instead.

It's funny that Nick the junkie is universally being the one hated online yet when critics were reviewing the show before hand he was the one getting the raving reviews and universal praise.

For me, he was the only interesting character at all. I wanted to dislike him, but the rest of the characters were so incredibly boring, that I'd be okay if they all died in episode 2. Give me a whole new group, and I'll even take some cliche' characters if it enables me to stay awake for an entire episode.

I really wish they would have introduced a few more characters in the pilot. I watched way too much of a family that I have no interest in at all. I could live with a slow start considering what the series is trying to do, but at least give me characters I can be interested in.

There we go. You just nailed the reason I disliked it so much.

The only character I had even any somewhat remote interest in is the conspiracy theorist kid that brought the knife to the school. Knowing that, he'll be a goner by episode three I'm sure.

I was just going to say the same thing after watching the 2nd episode. While I enjoy the show in general and episode 2 was a lot better, I have very little interest in most of the main characters. Not sure how much of a role Tobias will have going forward. When she took his knife I thought he'd end up getting killed but now I think he might stick around for a while in a small role.

I think I dislike Chris more than Nick. He should be focusing his attention on the barber's daughter.

I'd have to believe that while crafting the character they wouldn't be completely clueless to how people who react to the character. He's the most popular by far right now.

I'm thinking he may not be in the rest of this season a ton, but will live and be upped to regular for S2.

I still don't really understand the Nick hate as is and think it's cool to see someone struggle with something so intense right when civilization is falling to shit.

But I agree about Chris. Now he's a little shit. Sure, Nicks choices and addiction he brought on himself and he's selfishly affected his mom and sis but he's still just a kid struggling with addiction and you can see he cares about his fam.

Chris is the typically little fuck whose parents got divorced and for whatever reason he blames dad and just want to pout and be a little rebellious bitch about.

A much better episode! Taking this episode into account, I like the pacing they are establishing with the first two eps. I am still not a huge fan of Nick. He is supposed to a total screw up. But he has everything so together that he is warning his family about his withdrawals? His mom gets a stash for him, and calmly takes a bit and maturely warns her about the sis trying to leave? They better have him try to steal the rest of the stash next week.

Gettin' a little better. Startin' to like the wife a little bit. Kinda rootin' for knife-kid. What's his name, Damien? Getting closer to the point where I wanna start remembering characters' names.

Lol so now you don't really like him because he does good when not completely strung out?

That's the point of the character it appears. He's struggling with addiction, that's the bad part of him. But by all accounts he appears to be a pretty good guy outside the selfish drug habit.

Unlike the other son who just seems like a butt hurt prick.

Don't know if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but I was hoping the show would be about how the 'disease' started (in other words, how patient zero got it), but it looks they decided not to start that early in the story.

The ambiguity works to it's advantage, don't want to pull a midi-chlorian. This show would have been much better if it aired before the Walking Dead. There's no new information and we already know how the world gets after society collapses. Watching the process isn't all that interesting, I'm sure we can guess how it goes down.

They want you to get attached to these characters but they pale in comparison to a sheriff who basically lives in a western, a samurai, and a redneck with a heart of gold and a crossbow.

I haven't watched the second episode yet but probably will tonight off the DVR (since I watched that awful Falling Skies finale but that's a different topic). But the funny thing about the knife incident in episode one was that what was the point of the security guards if a kid walks into the school with the knife, the metal detector goes off and it's the principal and the counselor that stop him?

Kirkman has said he has no interest in exploring the technical details of the disease. This show will end up being more mysterious of them than the original is/was (Kirkman HATED the CDC arc from S1).
