Not into the college football as much as the pros, so I like to check in here for updates on the Huskies, doesn't sound rosy thus far.

Meh, this is college football. Teams can look great coming into fall and fail, and there can be concerns all over and they excel. They picked up a couple of juco's recently to fill up the roster a bit at WR and QB and we will see what that staff does with those kids this fall.

I'll reserve judgement until the end of their OOC games.

The spread for the @Boise has moved to an obscene Broncos -12 at the Vegas books. Seems really high, but goes to show how much this team will have to prove itself in 2015. I hope the game doesn't end up in a blowout like that. Would be a crappy way to start the season.

They can be better and still not win more games given their schedule.

This team desperately needs a signature win. They must have a game where they upset someone at some point. It doesn't have to be Boise right out of the gate (is that really an upset anyway? :noidea:), but they have to come together as a team and beat someone they shouldn't. Start there.

So that now makes 5 QBs for the 2015 roster.

Kamiak High School product Anthony Berg is one of seven walk-ons who has been added to the updated Washington football roster. Berg, listed at 6 feet 2, 205 pounds, was a part-time player the past two seasons at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, Calif. He played in six games last season, completing 22-of-39 passes for 328 yards and a touchdown.

The others:

40 — Gerran Brown, LB, 6-2, 210, Santa Ana, Calif. (Mater Dei)
22 — Dustin Bush, DB, 5-10, 165, San Diego (Mira Mesa)
57 — John Clark, DL, 6-4, 255, Marysville (Marysville Getchell)
93 — Connor Griffin, TE, 6-4, 212, Lake Oswego, Ore./Gonzaga
20 — Jamon Jones, WR, 6-3, 201, Spanaway (Bethel)
29 — Josh Rasmussen, WR, 6-0, 175, Lake Stevens HS

Clearly I misread what you posted there. Yeah, no one's saying that, I like your optimism though.

On the bright side, at least this means that the funnest part of going to the Husky games will be the tailgate. I'll just get drunk enough to not give a shit about what happens on the field.

Until I start getting livid about what is happening on the field.

One week out and still no starter officially named for Friday's game.

Either they have decided to keep Boise in the dark so they aren't prepping for whoever is starting, or they still really don't know.

As much as I really do want to see what Browning can do, I really don't want to see him in that game. Young line on the road against a good team doesn't feel like the place to test a true freshman that doesn't even have the full playbook yet.

Apparently the starter has been selected, but they're not going to tell the public who it is until Friday.

Heard a lot of whispers that it's going to be Browning though.

He better have a hell of a game because I'm on record right now as saying that's really not a great idea.

To be honest with you, be it Jeff Lindquist or Jake Browning, the QB play from this team will be mediocre at best.

The real concern is if you start Jake Browning, if he struggles does that impede his ability to grow in the future? In my opinion, Jeff Lindquist has a higher floor, but a much lower ceiling than Jake Browning does. Browning could be terrible, or he could be terrific. This could be helpful for next year's season if Browning already has a years worth of starts under his belt.

In reality, if the Huskies even hit .500 this year, it'll be a massive success IMO. This is a rebuilding year, might as well throw Browning out there and get him some experience for next year. I don't think he could be much worse than Lindquist.

In addition, Petersen has a long track record of going with the vet player. If he chooses Browning, that means that he really has absolutely no confidence in Lindquist.

There's nothing you said I don't agree with and haven't said myself several times, except I don't agree with putting Browning in against Boise. Start him the following week. Give Lindquist/Carta-Samuels a game to show what they have right now and let Browning have a bit softer of a landing.

I'm not arguing to red shit him, I'm just saying I really wouldn't risk setting him back by bringing him out on that stage.

Fair enough. But what about at USC? He's gonna have to have his cherry popped at some point.

Giving two lower OOC games to a true freshman to let him get up to speed seems more reasonable than throwing directly in the fire. Not just to give him that much more time to prepare, but maybe more importantly also give 3 more weeks to that line before you put him against top talent defenses.

I disagree WizardHawk. If they've decided Browning is gonna be the guy, they should go with him. I disagree if the decision is based on just wanting him to get experience this year, but I have to believe they will go with the QB that they think they will give the team the best chance if winning. If that guy is Browning, don't spell him for week 1 because it's a big game...

And is it really that far fetched to think Browning is the best option? I think we're familiar enough with Lindquist to not be shocked. And from what I remember of the sping game, Carta-Samuels seemed like the third best of the group.
