If you are looking for refurbs, check out overstock.

Laptops - Overstock Shopping - For All Your Computing Needs.

Can't say I've bought any laptops from them, but I've picked up a few monitors and other electronics and never had any issues. They have a lot of sub $200 units listed today. Their stock changes daily.

As a tech support person I try my best to please my customers. When I have poor families I'm donating my time to that really can't afford tech for their kids, I'll use sites like this to pick up what I can. There are other sites on the web that have overstocked, close out, and refurbs, but it's super important to stick with a trustworthy site. I have been burned by smaller sites. Never by overstock.

We have a Toshiba Satellite. About 6 years old. No problems. Love it.

You said you wanted cheap as can be. And listed $150 as a price point. There are several laptops at any given point in that range, but of course they are not high powered units compared to today's laptops. There was an HP up there yesterday I briefly looked at that had an AMD dual core, 2g ram, DVD burner, and 80G HD. Old dual core processors are slow by today's standards, but more than able to handle web surfing.

2g ram is quite low for windows 7. It's enough to load the operating system and run one or two programs at a time max. It works, but don't push it.

Search for each CPU on cpubenchmark.net and look up it's rank score. It's their relative ranking of about fast your processor is compared to other processors. Those old dual cores listed in most of those cheap refurbs are still faster than Atom processors sold in the cheap ass new units today and even those still let you surf the web.

Happy hunting.

Tell you what I like about a tablet. I can pick it up and go anywhere. Out to the patio, the garage ect. Battery last all day plus. The touch keyboard is easy to use. For surfing, larger tablets have a good size screen.

The down side is the cost for the ones you would actually love using, out of your price range. If $150.00 is your price range buy a refurbish laptop. You can find them on EBay for that and less.

As I said earlier, if it has an Atom processor or a Celeron it's probably well slower than those dual core refurbs on overstock and keep in mind those refurbs have 14-15 inch screens while some of those best buys are quite smaller.

I'd rather have a refurb win 7 machine than a chromebook. Maybe that's just me.

I agree, but if you just want to surf the web, email, and the occasional document, and you're comfortable with Google apps, and you want something that's affordable and decent quality, it's at least worth looking at a chromebook I think.

You want a Cadillac with a Yugo price tag SP. That's the problem. Just hold on to what you have, save your pennies and down the road buy a iPad Air . You won't regret it.
