All we had to do was beat the redskins, pg. We've already been over this.

Right but your comment is that Desean Jackson ended the Eagles season. Sorry but it is just a stupid assessment. Did he contribute in that game? Yes he did but the Desean Jackson did not end the Eagles season. Hell the week before we were getting our asses handed to us by the Cowboys. This is the same Cowboys we dominated earlier in the year. Came back in that game and took the lead. It is a game we should have won. We had opportunities and it never should have come down to the Redskins game anyway.

Probably wouldn't have if we had a deep threat opposite Maclin. That would have been ridiculous. Maclin is so damn good at everything and then Desean just running past people. Wow.

But if we had simply kept Desean from the Redskins we don't lose that game. It's too bad we didn't get as up to play him as he got his team up to play us.

We whooped the Cowboys and then they whopped us. That's what division rivalries can look like. Splitting with the Cowboys didn't hurt us, that was to be expected. It was the rest of the bullshit losses and, most egregiously, the one that mattered the most against the Redskins.

An 11-5 Eagles team wouldn't have made the playoffs either, so "all we had to do was beat the redskins" is not true.

I'm a huge Chip Kelly fan. Have been since he coached at Central High and the UNH. The guy is truly a football genius. He knows and understands what he wants to do and has always been successful when he's been allowed to do it his way with his players. I'm a Patriots fan first and an Eagles fan next. I can't wait to watch the eagles unfurl their wings this season.

When I start to think about the Eagles and Cowboys.......things start to twitch.

The biggest difference between him then.. and now... is that at the HS and college level, your starters are generally there for 2 years (as most sophmores won't start). Further, they will do anything you say because they want the playing time and are not paid. But in the NFL, he is dealing with men, not boys. Success generally incorporates cohesiveness that is much longer than 2 years. And many of the best, are paid as such and often have diva complexes and huge egos. At the lower ranks, it is far more about scheme. In the NFL it's the combination of scheme and skillset. So there is a bit more here than Chip does not have as much experience with, and while I'm very much a Chip supporter - I am also concerned about his ability to handle grown men, and not simply looking for players that will act like yes-men boys.

You are correct. It was still a do or die game so my disappointment remains. The cardinals game is really the one that did it then. They went to the playoffs and we didn't. They showed us how valuable a speedy WR is at the end of that one.

As an aside, Bill belichick said he believes that Chip Kelly is a genius. Further, he said that many of Chip's ideas have become mainstays in the NFL that he will never get the credit for.

I personally believe that Kelly is just too far ahead of the NFL in his way of thinking and the way he wants his guys to play football. He's getting rid of guys who don't want to do it his way. He's pretty close and I have a feeling that he's going to shock the crap out of the NFL this year.

Bill Belichick teams don't lose home games to 3-11 teams with the playoffs on the line.

You can only fix so many things in your first two years. Bradley Fletcher, Cary Williams, & Nate Allen are all gone now. He took a 4 & 12 team and has now turned the roster over. I am not sure what you expect him to do with some of the players he inherited? The ones that didn't fit are not gone.

Why don't you bother posting on the Skins forum? Oh yeah, they are the 4-12 team.

but what does this say about the previous coach... given the state of the team? The coach that didn't have a 'single' TD by a WR last year - the first time that's been done since like 1964. He was a genius as well, right?

I am still backburner worried that Chip thinks too much of scheme over skillset of players, and doesn't realize at the pro level, you need both and more fluency leadership of players - not just coaches. I'm afraid he sees players as too short of a shelf life the way they are in college.

But that aside, I think he is doing a great job and I'm excited to see what he keeps doing. He has made a few moves that I wouldn't have done, but he has also pulled some things out of his butt and really made up for them. I would have been faster to get rid of Maclin, and done more to keep Djax. I would have gotten a WR in the 1st just like he did, but I would have done it from design, not because he lost Maclin. I wouldn't have dealt McCoy, but looking at what he got for him - I think it was a brilliant move. I'm still "in chip I trust" mode - I just have that nagging concern about him not buying into skillset. But time will tell. At least he seems to have a plan B and acts quickly on it - something Reid seemed to never do.

We had the 2nd worst secondary in the NFL last year. that is going to take time to remake as well. You can only rebuilt so much at a time. But at least we are not scratching our heads during the draft as with Reid, and the picks make sense, even if they might not be the exact player we would do.

I don't think we are SB ready, as far as a dominating team, but I do think we are getting closer, and we are going to challenge for the playoffs again.

I agree with this. Kelly reminds me a ton of Belichick when he was getting things rolling in New England 10 to 15 years ago. Veteran "name" guys didn't mean shit to him, he wanted guys that would play his brand of football, and he took a lot of heat for it. 6 Super Bowl appearances and 4 Lombardi trophies later he's definitely got the last laugh on that one...

Chip genius update: reports are that the Bills are getting worried Lesean will not be able to start the season. Reportedly still injured with the bad hammy and out of shape.
